Imagine thinking this is something new, and not just something that we are finally being on the cusp of addressing.

I'm not going to pretend I understand trans people, but if we consider it to be a disability, I don't recall us harassing my grandmother for being disabled (paraplegic), or us making laws purposefully to attack those of us that were nearsighted. We responded with empathy and tried to help people. But maybe I'm just hoping for the best of us.

It’s not a straw man. He literally used the example of a person “transitioning to a dog” as if that’s the same thing as transgender. He equated gender with species. That’s just plain stupid, completely ignorant of even the most basic biology and honestly, insulting to transgender individuals but sadly, not surprising in the least and it’s even less surprising you don’t see any problem with it either.

On the contrary, he was using an extreme example to show you (apparently unsuccessfully) that the laws of science are not disposed of simply by talking around them.

A person cannot become a dog no matter how hard he wishes for it, whether or not he clicks his ruby red slippers together, or in any other way. Similarly, a person does not and cannot change his DNA because he takes a liking to the things we associate with the opposite sex.

Remind us what the science says about people with gender dysphoria? Because last I heard the studies support their brain structure being closer to the gender they identify with then the gender their bodies are. To dismiss this and try to claim they are "confused" or "not following the laws of science" is to miss the point completely and minimize the very real suffering their condition causes.

The experts who study this say the science supports what they claim.
