Meghan McCain accused President Trump of making fun of her father's injuries. What Trump really said was that he did not consider McCain a "hero" for getting shot down. Trump, like the rest of us, has a right to his opinion. In fact, McCain was a "negative ace," having lost more aircraft than he shot down. His injuries occurred not because of torture, as so many tall tales by the press portrayed, but because of injuries due to his ejection. McCain broke the military code of conduct (name, rank, and serial number) days after having been shot down by providing extensive information and a number of his long interviews were published by foreign press. The actual tapes of his conversations were not made public, but were eventually provided to his mother. At the time the press dubbed McCain as "songbird," but in later years, after the Keating Five and after he worked with John Kerry, the press worked hard to portray him as a hero. As to what he admitted to U.S. authorities, McCain, in the 1990s, put forth legislation (which passed) to have his entire debrief along with the debriefs of other POWs to never be made public.

Imagine trump as a prisoner of war like McCain was. When the Vietnamese offered to let John go free he refused because his brothers in arms weren't released too. How quickly do you think trump would have gotten to the helicopter despite his fellow soldiers remaining in captivity? John stayed prisoner a year longer than he had to because he understood the meaning of sacrifice! If trump is allowed his opinion, why do you resist allowing Meghan to own her opinion? Trump did disparage John and made sport of him being captured by the enemy. She saw firsthand the abuse trump heaped on her and her family along with his sycophantic cult. Most Americans like presidents who are not so divisive and have not been impeached twice!

McCain had injuries when he was shot down, but as a POW, the Vietnamese didn't provide him with medical care.

He was also tortured, no two ways about it.

As to giving up more than name rank and serial number, no one knows how
long they could hold out before breaking, and everyone breaks, that's a fact
of life.

Everyone will be on the outside looking in. What Trump said did was to a womans father, family. Again theres more to McCains story that never gets in the news never talked about.. gets ignored. Even some of Trumps words taken out of context not even what he meant but. Trump is no saint nor was McCain that has not always spoken nicely to others

The truth is that McCain was the only POW provided with a Russian doctor. In fact, there is a picture of him with nice clean white sheets. No, not everyone breaks. For example, Major Mark Smith was given the honor of being the first one off of the plane of the returning POWs from the south, the North Vietnamese kept him chained up in a hole in the ground--he never broke. As to torture, McCain was kept in an area with "progressive" POWs, the group was known for not being tortured, but perhaps McCain was an exception. How you can be certain I have no idea, you were wrong about your other "facts."

That's very true. I file it with the oft-stated claim that Trump said that every Mexican immigrant is a rapist.

It's amazing how some of these partisans can make a claim, sometimes right while quoting the original comment that said something else.

And you have a credible source for all these accusations ?

McCain was shot down by a Soviet surface to air missile (SAM) on a mission over Hanoi. In 1967 62 U.S. planes were shot down by Soviet SAM’s. McCain was appointed as a chaplain by his fellow POW’s. He endured torture. Woe to those who slander and defame the courageous.

Trump was working on draft deferments.

McCain served multiple terms as a Senator. Who are you? You lied about McCain being a negative ace. You are a songbird, singing for Russian collusion.

The power of the press. Sadly, I told the truth. That was not the first aircraft McCain had lost. And we have all been afraid, while McCain did break the military code of conduct and it was against the military code of conduct to tell the North Vietnamese that his father was the admiral, no one can say what they would do if they have not walked in his shoes. But Trump was correct, because McCain got shot down does not make him a hero. The press went from "Songbird" and "Keating Five" to make McCain out to be some kind of hero of all of the POWs whose statements should not dare be questioned. That's because he fit the agenda of the major media.

What press called him songbird? The Russians had hundreds of fake Facebook accounts before the 2020 election trying to discredit the Democrats who had opposed their invasion of Ukraine. Russians hacked the DNC servers and had connections with Trump campaign people who were also looking for dirt to use against the Democrats. It is dirty politics.
Facebook, Twitter Remove More Russian-Backed Fake Accounts Ahead Of Election

An ace is a fighter pilot who downs five enemy aircraft. During 1967 American pilots were vulnerable to mobile launched SAM attacks. Pilots were killed or captured. Some who bailed out over jungle were picked up by search and rescue teams. Those close to people were less likely to escape. The villagers saw their parachutes and went out to capture them. McCain was tortured to the point of suffering long term disability.

Trump lined up multiple draft deferments. He also got doctor’s note to excuse him due to a bone spur. He did not want to be a dead hero. The Vietnam War draft was not popular with many young men asked to fight and risk death or disability for their country in a foreign land before they were old enough to buy a beer. Since then the U.S. switched to an all volunteer/mercenary military.

The switch by the press began roughly around 1990, the tall tales got bigger and bigger. You would do a lot better to search between 1973 and 1989 for factual accounts about McCain, if you find a search engine that let's you specify dates let me know and I will search. McCain was severely injured and received long term disability when he ejected and landed in water. A North Vietnamese rescued him. See if you can find anything about McCain suffering long term disability because of torture in the accounts before 1989. The Russia Russia Russia perpetrated by the media with supposedly with supposedly verified information turned out to be unverified--a hoax. How many times does it take to be hoodwinked before a person does some serious fact checking? As to McCain's talking, I know name, rank, and serial number is tough to stay with, but, c'mon.

Good example, an ABC propaganda story on John McCain. Back then they put in at least a little information contrary to the main story narrative to give the appearance of fairness. How in the world can ABC say "Almost all of McCain's former fellow captives like and respect him?" Do you really think they went out and surveyed all of the POWs? Or just talked to some at this get together? If ABC did not get a response from the majority or "almost all" of POWs then that would be what has come to be known as "fake news." McCain became the Republican nominee for president, and it is not a surprise that some Republican POWs were very supportive of him. POW returnee Butler, in the contrary bit, points out that McCain was nothing special. Again my point is that the media went from Songbird to hero, and Americans, including Trump, have a right not to go along with the current-day most fashionable media narrative.
New York Daily News titled: "Reds Say PW Songbird is Pilot Son of Admiral" 5 June 1969.

Dr. Fernando Barral, a Spanish psychiatrist residing in Cuba, really ?

Are you aware that Cuba is a Communist Country and sided with the North Vietnamese
and Russia during the war ?

He's the doctor that examined McCain.

I didn't like John McCain for other reasons, but his record as a POW is not in question as to what he went through.

I have a bigger problem with what he did after going home to his wife who waited for him and then nursed him back to health, only to be betrayed by John when she needed him most.

You're quite right. And the ridiculous way that the Left and its allies in the press went from vilifying McCain in no uncertain terms to praising him as a man above all men...and did so in a heartbeat proves it.

Well we can agree that it wasn't to this level seen below in this excerpt of Trump attacking yet another reporter, that's for sure:
