LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles City Councilman is being indicted on federal corruption charges.

The 20-count indictment filed in Los Angeles federal court alleges that Mark Ridley-Thomas and the former dean of USC’s School of Social Work are both being indicted in connection to a bribery scheme.

Ridley-Thomas is accused of conspiring with Marilyn Louise Flynn, the ex-dean who agreed to give Ridley-Thomas’ relative “with graduate school admission, a full-tuition scholarship, a paid professorship, and a mechanism to funnel Ridley-Thomas campaign funds through the university to a non-profit to be operated by the relative.”

I wonder if this post is part of a post-back-and-forth fight with another member.....

City council person, too, they don’t get much higher up in the Democratic Party than that!
Oh, it goes way higher than the Democratic Party - city councils are hotbeds of global elites. This guy is probably one of Biden’s handlers. You may have heard the phrase they use - "act locally, think globally."

Nothing but a politically motivated witch hunt. Don't believe the lies the media is telling you - do your own research. This is fake news and a false story.

In face of his refusal to resign, the LA City Council will probably vote today to suspend him from his office.

Nepotism and bribery is never a good look.

ETA: The council voted 11-3 to suspend him.

If he's guilty , he should face the punishment. Like all guilty people in office.

Suspended LA Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas convicted of bribery, conspiracy in corruption trial

Suspended Los Angeles City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas was convicted Thursday on federal bribery and conspiracy charges, along with mail and wire fraud, stemming from a bribery scheme in which he was accused of promising to steer millions of dollars in contracts to USC if his son got a scholarship and a teaching job.

Mark Ridley-Thomas sentenced to 42 months in prison

A federal judge has sentenced Mark Ridley-Thomas, once a towering figure in Los Angeles politics, to 42 months in prison, marking a shameful final chapter in his long career as a local power broker and advocate for civil rights and racial equity.

Ridley-Thomas, 68, had asked the judge to spare him any prison time and instead sentence him to probation and other alternatives to incarceration. Federal probation officials recommended 18 months in prison. Public corruption prosecutors at the U.S. attorney’s office in L.A., meanwhile, had requested a six-year term.

Ridley-Thomas’ conviction has stained the legacy of a politician whose name has graced a wellness center, a high school health center, a youth facility, and a bridge spanning La Cienega Boulevard.

“Mr. Ridley-Thomas was an immensely powerful politician,” Martin Estrada, the U.S. attorney in the Central District of California, said outside the courthouse. “The sentence imposed today shows that the law has meaning, and it gives notice to all public officials who would consider violating their sacred trust.”

No one is above the law.
