The next version of language will have special tags to deliminate those things which are true vs those things which were written in jest. Right now it is impossible to tell when one is not serious.
It was snark. So is this.

They could actually get something done in Congress.

Asking to abolish the electoral college,
just makes people mad.

Lot's of things make people mad, that does not mean they should not be considered. There are several positives to abolishing the EC such that we have a more balanced democracy instead of making several swing states the ones pandered to.

In the electoral college, it is theoretically possible for the president to be elected while only getting something like 20% of the popular vote. The fact that is even possible demonstrates how fundamentally flawed it is.

That's not even taking into account how the electoral college, as you mentioned, results in a few key states getting all the focus and how a Democrat's presidential vote in, say West Virginia, is a waste as is a Republican's in California.

Trash the electoral college and institute ranked choice voting systems (at the very least, IRV for those where only on candidate wins).

Why would they be powerless with a popular vote? Everyone would have an equal say.

This is the defensiveness that happens when unearned privileges are taken away.

This discussion is like mice firmly deciding the cat must be belled.

It's not practicable to amend the Constitution to eliminate the Electoral College. There is one whole political party that knows it depends on the Electoral College.

If even the blue states can't apportion their electors according to their state popular vote, there is zero chance of a Constitutional amendment to remove the Electoral College.

Oh yes, I know it's never going to happen, at least not in my lifetime. Won't' stop me from making the argument that it very obviously should go.

One of the things I always thought the EC was there for (apart from balancing the small and large states' impacts) was to moderate the passions of the masses and to act as a backstop should the masses try to elect a deranged, monomaniacal, pathological liar/fraudster, foreign-dictator loving moron to the office of President.

Apparently I was mistaken.

IIRC, isn't the US only a few states votes away from establishing popular vote for Presidential elections? I don't remember what states were already signed onto it, but there are signatories to an agreement that their state will give all its electoral vote to whoever wins the popular vote. The agreement goes into force once enough states have signed on that they cover the majority of electral votes. After that, what you effectively have is popular vote. This without touching the Constitution or any amendments, as states are allowed to choose whatever way they want to give out their electoral votes.

Some states are taking a different approach to the popular vote vs the electoral vote. It's still within the framework of the Electoral College as I understand it but it makes it more close to a popular vote.

Oh, BTW, like Finnair. On my trips to Finland I always enjoyed the trip over as well.

Glad to hear that. My father was a pilot at Finnair before his retirement. Gave me a chance to travel around the globe when I was younger.

Democrats questioned the elections first.

Every time a Republican president is elected,
Democrats go on cable news asking to abolish the electoral college.
That puts doubt in the system and that weakens the system.

The electoral college is good for America.
It gives power to all 50 states.

Yeah lol theres more the Democrats did and do.. the Republicans .. do some of this also. Like one thread was saying or asking.. does seem so much more fighting then ever before. Praise GOD president Trump did open for the world to see the swamp which is left and right yet now in one camp they do not hide it and are out in the open and don't care. Praise GOD for those that question .. each right now still have that right. Be nice if all would just respect it
