The question at the bottom of this is - why were January 6th rioters brought to justice when BLM rioters weren't?

Hundreds of people have been charged in both cases.

With that, let's return to the topic of Jan 6 and its sequelae.

Like Jan 6 defendant Joshua Doolin's complaint:

If Mr Doolin was remanded in custody he would not have to wear an anklet at all and would probably be able to visit the prison gym without suffering the discomfort of blisters. He might not enjoy the company so much while shooting some hoops, not being able to choose his companions.

On balance, if it was me, I would prefer the anklet, home cooking and the odd cold beer of an evening.

Fellows essentially confessed to two additional felonies during his own defense.

Fellows said he asked [public defender formerly on the case] Halverson if he should contact [The Judge!] McFadden’s family as a means of disqualifying him from presiding over his case. He also said he had told Halverson – to her horror – about a previous occasion in which he’d intentionally put the phone number of another judge’s wife as his emergency contact in order to get a new judge. In that case, the judge was replaced with another.

In her much shorter cross-examination, Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Furst got Fellows to admit – under oath – that he had climbed into the Capitol through a broken window without police permission, that he had used the previous judge’s wife’s contact information to try to get him removed from the case and that he had missed court-ordered mental health and drug testing appointments.

“You’ve admitted to incredible lapses of judgment here on the stand, not least of which was seeking to disqualify a New York state judge,” the judge continued. “You’ve admitted to obstruction of justice in that case, and you’ve admitted to what was probably obstruction in this case in trying to have me disqualified, and only Ms. Halverson’s advice stopped you from doing so.

Cell phone video released from zip tie guy and his mommy during their field trip inside the Capitol.

"This [poop] is on the news," Eisenhart tells her son. "Somebody was saying this is on the news."

Munchel replies, "Oh, yeah, definitely."

'They are going to use this against us as hard as they can," the son continues. "But we ain't playing [doggone] nice no [golshdurn] more."

Eisenhart agrees, "That's right."

As they make their way through the crowd, one person suggests: "You guys look like y'all ready to go, huh?"

Munchel answers, "[Doggone] ready to [zug-zug] [poop] up!"

--

"I want that [doggone] gavel," Munchel shouts at one point.

No link, of course.

Forgive me but some more should be said here. The summer 2020 500+ riots 25 people killed 20 cops killed 1000 cops hurt some for life. Forgive me but I can still see the woman out side her store as two big black men beat her with a long 2x4. No one ran to help just the video recorded. Harris said about those riots it will keep happening and should keep happening. Said that more then once. WHY are we not demanding her to be accountable as they did for Trump about Jan 6th where we watched in congress as they showed that video of president Trump speaking. Where the Dem's left out of that video in congress "go up peacefully". How does that alone not bother us? Out right mislead..

So Jan 6th have we been calling emailing Washington to show the thousands of hours of video they have and the video form some police that had body cams? A woman killed crawling in a window no weapon what so ever. Then for the 1st time since I can remember they didn't share would not share the cop that did it. I told me wife at that time.. I bet hes black. Shouldn't matter yet to the left it did. So for the 1st time they hid that simple fact. That man was called a hero by some. With just that.. I share yet I do not judge at all. I know if she was black and he was white it would still be in the news.. but thats speculation.

Talking still about Jan 6th why not report on all those that lost their jobs or attacked for just being at that rally? I know two older people I know another man.. yeah they just thought.. hey lets got. They are to this day still fighting in court losing all..why? Do we care about them? You know this is not fare..so speak up. I do.

Summer 2020 was not done by president Trump supporters. Black life matters, Antifa and then many others that could be left and right. So please to hear "its worse then 9/11". "Right-wing erupts after Biden declares Jan. 6 “worst attack on democracy since Civil War".

For God so loved the world He gave His only son.. that you Father for what you doing here.. I see it ;)

I think you brought up the media as being mainly progressive and linked that to a perceived leniency in the treatment of BLM activities. I think the inference was that it was unfair. The question at the bottom of this is - why were January 6th rioters brought to justice when BLM rioters weren't?

It is a fair question and well worth discussing. I think it deserves its own thread, as I have already pointed out. This thread is about the consequences, repurcussions and reactions to the assault on the Capitol on January 6th. So let us keep to the topic, please.

I thought most people who actually caused and participated in violence and looting in those riots were arrested. And many more people who were protesting peacefully were tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets anyway.

HBO Exposes the Violent Chaos of Trump’s Jan. 6 Rioters in ‘Four Hours at the Capitol’

For those eager to revisit one of the darkest days in American history, Four Hours at the Capitol provides a first-hand account of the insurrection carried out by then-President Donald Trump’s delusional acolytes on Jan. 6, 2021. Culled from numerous up-close-and-personal video sources, and narrated by congressmen, journalists, and traitorous Proud Boys and “activists” who participated in the attack, it’s a time capsule that’s short on context—and condemnation of the numerous figures responsible for inciting the mêlée—but long on harrowing and damning footage of the disgraceful assault.

The House Jan. 6 select committee voted Tuesday night to recommend that Steve Bannon, a one-time top adviser to former President Donald Trump, be held in contempt of Congress over his refusal to cooperate with an ongoing investigation into the Capitol riot.

The panel’s unanimous [and bipartisan] recommendation will advance to the full House for another vote, which will occur Thursday. If approved, the measure will advance to the Justice Department, whose officials will make the final decision on whether to prosecute Bannon. The former Trump adviser could face a fine or a jail term of up to 12 months.

An Army reservist charged in the Justice Department’s sweeping investigation of the U.S. Capitol riot was demoted and discharged earlier this year, becoming the first known service member to be forced out of the military after officials learned of an alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection, according to personnel records reviewed by The Washington Post and the former soldier’s attorney.

Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, 31, was working part-time as an Army Reserve sergeant in human resources. In May, he was demoted to private — the enlisted force’s lowest rank — and given an other-than-honorable discharge the next month, terminating a 12-year military career, said his attorney Jonathan Crisp.

Let's be clear, there were numerous protests and far less riots -- and even where there were riots, most of the protestors were not rioters. The protests had a valid reason, the fact that Blacks are far more likely to be stopped by police and mistreated by police. At the same time, the rioters should be (or should have been, in some cases) arrested and prosecuted -- but in most of those cases you'd have to talk to local officials in the places these riots occurred (most in Minneapolis and Portland) as to why some rioters may not have been arrested and/or charged.

Actually, Harris did not support the protestors. The video of her comments is here -- and it is clear she is talking about the peaceful protestors and not the rioters -- those claiming otherwise have taken her comments out of context and are lying about what was said:

As for Trump, it would be interesting to see what the White House records say and what various administration members might testify to -- yet we see that former Pres. Trump is trying to prevent those records and that testimony from being released. What we do know, from many of the 1/6 rioters own words, is that they believed that they were doing what Pres. Trump "told" them to do. Many of them are using it as a defense in court. We have several reports that Pres. Trump was informed about the riot and attack on Capitol Hill, watching it on TV, and refused to issue orders to stop the riot (at least for an hour or two).

Another thing to note, the "BLM" rioters (who typically were not there for BLM but to "cause trouble" or to loot, and some of them were even right-wing Proud Boys) were not attempting to "overthrow" the government; whereas the 1/6 rioters were attempting to prevent Congress from declaring Joe Biden the winner of the Presidential election, to get them to override the results of the election.

I know if she was black and he was white it would still be in the news.. but thats speculation.

Actually, this is not true. As a general rule, for Federal law enforcement officers, they do not name shooters. If the federal government does release the name of the shooter, it is typically part of an announcement that they have found the shooter in violation of federal law or various regulations in regard to the shooting, and that the officer is being administratively punished or charged with a crime. The government not releasing the name of the officer that shot Ashli Babbett is consistent with Federal policy, since their investigation upheld it as a "good" shooting, and has nothing to do with his race or politics.

In this case, the officer was part of a protection detail, the mob had been told not to continue past the doors, after they had smashed in the windows. In the various videos that have been released, you can clearly see members of Congress at the end of that hallway (maybe a dozen feet from those doors) maybe a minute before Ms. Babbitt went through the window. The officers knew that if the mob started coming through the doors (or even the windows in the doors) that they would be quickly overwhelmed and would no longer be able to protect members of Congress, or even the Vice President; which is why the shooting was considered justifiable (regardless of if Ms. Babbitt personally was carrying a weapon, something the officer could not know about her at that time).

Talking still about Jan 6th why not report on all those that lost their jobs or attacked for just being at that rally? I know two older people I know another man.. yeah they just thought.. hey lets got. They are to this day still fighting in court losing all..why? Do we care about them? Were the people you know in the Capitol building? If they were, I can see them being fired for breaking the law. If not, then it would be interesting to hear the reason they were fired (what their work claimed they were fired for, not what they claim they were fired for). I can see, if they took off work without taking vacation (or similar) how they might be fired for missing work, or falsely claiming they were sick and couldn't come in.

And, again, the "riots" were not an attack on Democracy. In many cases, the "riots" were taking advantage of the protests to loot or other non-political causes. Even the ones that were "political" tended to be riots against what they believe is a racially prejudiced justice system. In contrast, 1/6 was a direct attack on our democracy, to prevent the winner or the election from being officially named the winner. I don't know that it is the "worst" attack on our Democracy since the Civil War, there have been other attacks, but it was a serious attack.

The panel’s unanimous [and bipartisan] recommendation [to hold Bannon in contempt] will advance to the full House for another vote, which will occur Thursday.

The House Rules Committee ruled 9-4 along party lines to approve the resolution, with all Republicans voting against it. The criminal referral is expected to go before the full House for a vote Thursday. If passed, it will be referred to the Justice Department.

Jim Jordan piped up in committee and...

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) confirmed on Wednesday to a House panel that he had spoken with then-President Donald Trump after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol but contradicted a previous answer about the timeline of calls that day.

The House Rules Committee grilled Jordan, a potential witness in the House investigation of the attack, about his communications with Trump while he was testifying against a resolution to hold former Trump aide Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress.
