These elections will be next year - but the election campaign has more or less started already.

The first round of the 2022 French presidential election will be held on 10 April 2022. Should no candidate win a majority of the vote in the first round, a runoff will be held between the top two candidates on 24 April 2022. The incumbent President of France is Emmanuel Macron of La République En Marche! (LREM), who won the 2017 election and whose term lasts until 13 May 2022.

The election will be held just before the 2022 legislative election.

Have you got any opinion on that already?

btw: I live about 10 miles from the French border and often go to a nice litle place in France - just for lunch and back again.
And when there is an election in France, I am also interested to see all those French election street posters.

So what? Is it about selfishness for you? Or the best for the french people? What is best for them?Apart for abducation of the presidency since they keep topping the list of most hated stateleader in the world for 100 years. Time to set the french free I reckon. If they desire it. The people do not get what they want now. Not good

Sooner or later I might create a poll with those 6 names:

Nathalie Arthaud - Lutte Ouvrière
Marine Le Pen - Rassemblement national
Anne Hidalgo - Parti Socialiste

François Asselineau - Union populaire républicaine
Fabien Roussel Parti - communiste français
Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron - En Marche

grow some individuality. Drop the catchphrase about proof, and research for yourself. I am not your mama, and I do not care what you would think if you were an independent individual either. Searh up approval ratings of stateleaders and see for yourself.

Actually, it is perfectly possible that Macron will win this as people do not really like the other candidates.

You made the claim: forum guidelines, internet etiquette and good manners leave you with three options:

  • Provide links that provide good quality support for your claim.
  • Do neither and be thought a bit of a dork.

Here is a new candidate:

French far-right pundit Eric Zemmour announced on Tuesday that he will run for president in next year's election, staking his claim in a video peppered with anti-immigrant rhetoric and warnings France must be saved from decline.

Zemmour, 63, is the most stridently anti-Islam and anti-migrant of the challengers seeking to unseat President Emmanuel Macron in the April 2022 vote.

He seems to have the support of the Far-Right vote and could make the second round. If so he would probably get the Marine le Pen votes also and then it is a question if the other right-wing parties back him or Macron who is likely to be the other candidate.

From what I can glean he is a critical thinker and more of a rebel and intellectual than a leader. He has a France First agenda that is anti-Islam and anti Immigrant and which debunks a lot of the devirilisation of male identity he associated with modern feminism and the gay rights movement. His understanding of French identity is both anti-EU and anti-American and he is looking for closer relations with Russia and a withdrawal from NATO.

If comes down to him or Macron I hope Macron wins as Macron seems to be the sane candidate of the two. Zemour seems to be riding a bit of a wave right now but that might serve Macron better than him as people unite to keep him and his agenda out.

That reminds me:
This Monday we have been to France for lunch.
But we did not see any election posters yet.

The election is 10th April 2022 with the runoff for the 24th.

If you add Le Penn and Zemour together you get about 30% which is quite high for the far right. The right of the center vote would then be crucial as to whether they beat the left-wing candidate in the runoffs. Would Pécresse of the Republicans support Macron or go with the far right. I suspect her party would drift in both directions but that she would support Macron in the runoff. But it is possible we could get a right of the center president.

Macron looks like being the stronger left-wing candidate the rest of the left is divided and weak. The shock for the right would be if Zemour and Le Penn canceled each other out. Then Pécresse would be the candidate of the right and might well beat Macron at the polls being the most reasonable face of the right.
