God bless the Amish, as they remind us of an older way, a more family-centered way of dealing with this Covid pandemic.

I particularly liked this:

"It’s a worse thing to quit working than dying," he said, defending the community’s approach to COVID-19. “But to shut down and say that we can’t go to church, we can’t get together with family, we can’t see our old people in the hospital, we got to quit working … it’s going completely against everything that we believe.”

I guess if you look long enough then you'll find something to support whatever view you have.

'The Amish communities of northeast Ohio engage in textbook communal living. Families eat, work and go to church together, and through the pandemic, mask-wearing and social distancing have been spotty. As a result, these communities have experienced some of the state's highest rates of infection and deaths.' COVID-19 Has Hit The Amish Community Hard. Still, Vaccines Are A Tough Sell

'Claims on social media that the Amish population has not been affected by COVID-19 are false. Such claims have been used to suggest that vaccines are futile.' Fact Check-Amish communities have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic

That took me all of a few seconds to find. Now either you copied your info from some social media site or you would have known about those two reports (almost the first two that come up if you search 'Amish covid'.

We generally expect some doubling down at this stage.

The Amish in LaGrange County Indiana have had one of the the highest Covid infection rates in the state.
That was kind of their idea, I think. Don’t try to take any measures to prevent anyone from getting sick. See what happens.

Why so cynical, Bradskii? Lockdowns got ya...down?

I'll take some good report wherever I find it. You are free to reject it in favor of your native cheer.

That is Awesome! And it is great because they are far from isolated. The Amish have lots of businesses with the English. A friend of mine last fall took me to Shady Maple the biggest buffet in the US, that is Amish run.

Lock downs or shut down were gone in CA for a long time. Even though brain washed people on the right, did everything in their power to put peoples lives in danger. And they till continue.

But you didn't. You failed , Which people told you.

If you are Amish, you get to do both! Work, get sick and die! Now that's really living.

That’s what we ALL get to do. Unbelief produces the despairing attitude, the inordinate fear of death and the ingratitude towards God that make it such a slog for some.

"Research finds 'excess deaths' in Amish and Mennonite communities during pandemic"

"COVID does not respect doctrinal boundaries," Colyer said. "Many of the Amish believe that God will protect them. The evidence suggests that COVID doesn't care if you are Amish or English, Christian or atheist. The consequences are the consequences."

Death waits for no man. Got it.

This misses the point, which is the right to self-determination of the Amish approach. Inordinate fear of death—the product of unbelief—does not cripple that community as easily as it does some. I find that an overwhelming positive contrasted with many other groups.

From the OP:

"It’s a worse thing to quit working than dying," he said, defending the community’s approach to COVID-19. “But to shut down and say that we can’t go to church, we can’t get together with family, we can’t see our old people in the hospital, we got to quit working … it’s going completely against everything that we believe.”

This is something a person who lives out of fear of death cannot understand or know. It eludes them.

nothing to do with fear of death as EVERYONE know taxes & death are for certain

would've been stupid for husband & I not to get vaccinated
why risk a huge hospital bill & use up our teen's college savings?

That was your choice, the right one for your family. I despise the Covid Busybody approach, though, which would have forced you to do so if it could have. Freedom of choice is so important.

why is it SO important? more important than your neighbors?

this is a society we live in & people walking around with covid affects others including children who are unvaccinated

this choice stuff is hogwash
kids have to go to school, we have to obey traffic rules, we can't run around naked, etc
we can't even leave our trash cans out past trash day

So I’m entitled to your opinion? It comes as no surprise I have one too!

Viva la difference.
