SOUTHLAKE, Texas — A top administrator with the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake advised teachers last week that if they have a book about the Holocaust in their classroom, they should also offer students access to a book from an “opposing” perspective, according to an audio recording obtained by NBC News.

...

“Just try to remember the concepts of [House Bill] 3979,” Peddy said in the recording, referring to a new Texas law that requires teachers to present multiple perspectives when discussing “widely debated and currently controversial” issues. “And make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust,” Peddy continued, “that you have one that has an opposing, that has other perspectives.”

“How do you oppose the Holocaust?” one teacher said in response.

The same way you oppose evolution, I guess, but why stop at the holocaust. I hope Texas is also giving alternatives to a round earth, the moon landing, vaccine efficacy, the 9/11 attack, and even the assassination of JFK.

Are they thinking maybe Mein Kampf to offer a contrasting view?
Not really, Mein Kampf has extinction of the jews written in quite plain text.

Well, I'm not so sure it was Elvis that impregnated that 9 year old girl on Mars that had that "Cabbage Patch baby".

This is the sort of thing I was taught to look out for in my elementary class and up. Never thought I would see it in my lifetime. But given all that has happened in this country, the muddling of the truth was bound to happen.

Texas is becoming an idiot state. Lie , lie about the truth. But the truth doesn't go away. Eventually their will know the truth and feel like they were lied too. And stop voting for liars.

This statement tells me someone dreamed crazy stuff. Or they're hallucinate . So it's crazy nonsense. Seek professional help. Unless you're joking.

If this wasn't from Texas, I'd assume it was someone trying to make a point about how dumb this House Bill 3979 was.
I mean, a more effective form of satire would have been to require schools to make the Satanic bible readily available, given that the truth of Christianity is "widely debated". You'd hope that holocaust denial would trigger similar reactions from local residents, but perhaps this will be an interesting test.

No, I was not serious :). Tabloid stuff.

BTW, if you think anybody can stop voting for liars, without stopping voting altogether, you are delusional. Washington has only liars to offer. But you can choose the least of two evils.

Well, we have the photographic and video evidence that it happened. To defend Holocaust denial would be irresponsible.
I don't read it as "defend" denial.

I read it as providing a source to explain how the Germans ended up in a place to promote Hitler to leader, something I would expect any good teacher to be doing anyway.

I can see that. It would be a good study in understanding things like propaganda, state control of education and religious institutions, the power of visual and written media to change people’s minds, and how dehumanization works. Little by little. The Holocaust didn’t begin with the camps. It ended there.

If that is the plan, ok. We need to better understand how things like this happen, anyway. Because human nature hasn’t changed. We’re still stupid, easily influenced, excessively inclined towards extremes, and greedy.

It was very poorly put. Poorly enough that one wonders about the intent. But assuming for the sake of the discussion that it was well intended there are many things that often get incorporated into Holocaust viewpoints. Often actually things directly in opposition to what a book says that become part of the narative taken away.

Ideas like:

It was entirely a German thing.
The Jews were alone in being persecuted. Both in the sense of being the only ones and that no one tried to help them.

That and things being omitted like:

The economic situation in Europe, especially Germany.
That by the time things became obvious it was too late for the average person to take any action.

But when you read further, it only applies to historical events that were controversial. This one wasn't.
