Hi there,
So further to my other post about the right to chemical cohesion, I just wanted to stress that the chemical cohesion you have a right to is not purely based on any particular chemical - that's the reason you have nerves! In other words, you have a basis for consistency which is above chemicals in your mind - chemical "imbalances" are not the end of your nervous system, not your doom.
What is the chemical cohesion based on? The chemical cohesion is based on a mystery that transcends any particular chemical by design. Do you act as soon as you feel the urge? No! Do you find certain urges impossible to identify? Not really! That's because your nervous system is greater than the chemistry which is part - part - of your constitution.
So what do the drugs do? The drugs change the scope of your chemical cohesion, sometimes to your benefit, other times not, sometimes simultaneously both to your benefit and greatly to your benefit and sometimes - sometimes - even being greatly to your benefit, they are not ultimately to your benefit. So the drugs change your chemical cohesion, but not necessarily rationally - they may suppress activity that was causing problems, or they may suppress activity that was actually helping.
So do I take drugs or not? My advice is that anti-psychotics have been sufficiently tested that you should experiment. If you are crazy, you are already running out of options, so why not try a medication or two that might at least boost your prolactin (the brain's help-you-heal drug) levels to a level that will slow the degeneration you may be experiencing. You could meditate alternatively, but the cure would be slower coming, as a natural consequence of the body's naturally rising oxytocin levels in a context of neutrality (assuming you at least minimally practice detachment).
