Republican Lawmaker Who’s Suing Pelosi Over Mask Rule Says He Has Covid

Columbia, S.C. (AP) -- Rep. Ralph Norman, one of the three congressional Republicans suing Speaker Nancy Pelosi over fines for not wearing masks during a vote on the U.S. House floor, has contracted a breakthrough case of COVID-19, the second member of South Carolina's delegation to do so.

Norman, who has said he has been fully vaccinated since February, tweeted that he began experiencing minor symptoms of COVID-19 on Thursday, tested positive for the virus that day and would quarantine for 10 days.

Probably should've paid the darn fine...

Thoughts?

Probably has nothing to do with masks. These kinds of posts always seem a bit silly to me. Someone opposed to ridiculous pointless rules gets covid, therefore he was wrong? Not.

He didn't want to follow the rules because he thought he'd beat the odds based on his own... whatever.

In which case, he was quite wrong.

What's really interesting is the absurdity of the lawsuit in the first place.

GOP congressman suing Pelosi over mask fines tests positive for COVID-19

"In the lawsuit, Norman, Greene and Massie argue the mask mandate, which was recently reimposed, violates the 27th Amendment, which says the salaries of House members are determined by their own vote. They claimed the fines are in essence an unconstitutional reduction of their salaries."

Dunning-Kruger effect in action.

I... but that...

That makes absolutely no sense. It's not a reduction in their salaries, it's a fine for breaking the rules of the House. The House has the authority to make it's own rules, and if they can't enforce them, then they are meaningless.

It's not supposed to make sense -- it's supposed to protect them from the consequences of their actions.

It plays well to the base.

Rep. Norman was fully vaccinated, but got a break-through case.

So, I guess should they win (unlikely) no fine can be imposed upon them (speeding, etc). Heck, they should not even pay taxes, rent, SS or any bill as that reduces their income.

Pretty much -- it would be the end of accountability for the political class.

Anti maskers stage mask mandate protest while cheerfully complying with “shoes, shirt & pants” mandate, as well as complying with all seatbelt and traffic light mandates while on their way to the “anti mandate” rally to express their distaste of mandates, by complying with mandates….
