Someone I loved greatly was not a Christian believer. Will I really never see him again?
He was a good honourable man, who loved me so much. Our bond was so strong. Due to his illness and death I became a Christian. I cannot bear the thought of him being in hell. It means I will never see him again.
He was my late husband and I live with this burden.
I often pray for God's mercy for him, for both of us. Surely there is an answer? God can do anything and I know He is with me.

Just know God is a good judge, but praying for him does not do harm

The best is to believe His Word about this and not peoples judgement on lost sinners.
1 Timothy 4:9-10
"This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe."

Trust Jesus. God is love. So please give Jesus all your fears and worries about this man and see what He does in your heart after you have done that.

Psalms 9:8 "He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity."

When you can agree with this Psalm wholeheartedly then you know God has set you free from understanding Jesus truth all wrongly.

"Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness."

Peace.

He will not be in "Heaven" because of G-d's mercy but because G-d loves him for who he is. That is who G-d Is!!!

I know the harsh truth of course. Only Christ is the way to heaven.

Yet I pray still for mercy. Human love is full of pain. I think my husband did think about God before he died, I hope he accepted Jesus.

It shows that people who don't believe should think twice, it is not just themselves they cheat of eternal bliss.. They leave this world and loved ones forever. It is agonising for Christians who happen to have been in love with non believers who would not listen. Or indeed for anyone they loved.
I hope that makes sense.

Well then, you do have hope for those who assumedly had 'no hope' (1 Thessalonians 4:13, 14). It would oft be much better to know, but sometimes we just have to leave it in Jesus' hands. God bless you for your choice to believe.

He's not "in hell" (as in a burning place) ... hell is the grave .... all wait there until Jesus has completed judgement and He returns. Only God knows the heart and who or who will not receive eternal life is completely up to Jesus. We do not know ... only God does and He is totally just in His decisions. Be at peace about the matter .... anguishing over something you do not know is futile .... does more harm than good ... God wants you to be at peace .... trust Him ;o)

May the Lord bring you peace about the matter. In Jesus name .... Amen.

Thankyou for kindness yet this bitter pill cannot be sweetened. I know and grieve that either a soul chooses Christ or not, having been given ample opportunity in this life.
I do believe that heaven and hell are real and we do choose which we go to. By dismissing Jesus or ignoring the gospels, a person seals their fate. God does not do it.

I find comforting strength in prayer and in fellow Christians' gentle kindness.

There are many many people who have lived and never had the opportunity to know about Jesus or Christianity or heard the gospel ..... He looks at the hearts .... only He knows it. There will be people in heaven who never heard the name of Jesus ... but yet .... had his character.

Yes heaven and hell are real places. Heaven where God/Jesus and the heavenly host and some others live ... the heavenly kingdom is a real place.

Hell .... is the grave (a real place) .... God does not torture anyone ... not now .... not for eternity. Who can love and worship a God that would do that?

Hi I know what you mean. Yet, when someone has had myriad chances but firmly refuses to even acknowledge that God exists, what else is there?
I believe hell is the place of darkness where God does not abide. This place is filled with the souls who rejected Him. A place where the Devil can do what he likes to them since they came willingly.
There is a story in the NT where a rich man is in hell and begs to be freed but the chasm is too great between there and heaven. So he asks at least to that his living brothers be warned. I forget which book and chapter this.

As a believer I accept this is so. But I am greatly grieved for any of my loved ones who are destined to go there as it will be of their own choosing. God will not torture them, He doesn't have to. It will be torture just to be without Him there.

State of the Dead

Psalm 90:3-6

You turn man back into dust And say, "Return, O children of men." For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night. You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; In the morning they are like grass which sprouts anew.

Job 14:10-12

John 5:28-29
