No - not if you read it in context.

I've done that.

Remember they were in a desolate place and the people needed to be fed that night. To think they had time to go to another city and fundraise is really not good exegesis.

The context makes it clear that they were speaking ironically. Even if they had had the money in hand, it was an absurd proposition that they could go out at that time of day an actually find enough bread in bulk to buy to feed them.

The disciples were stating their true proposal when they said to Jesus, "send them away, that they may go into the country and villages round about, and buy themselves somewhat to eat." That was their real best idea.

Well, there ya go - we have disagreement.

The nuances of irony, while easy in English is very difficult in Hebrew and Aramaic.

I don't have the ability to know their thoughts well enough to assign motive and irony.

Was Peter's fishing boat just a four meter boat?

There was a debate about this in the Medieval Church, in part at least seeking to spiritualize the tremendous wealth the hierarchy of the church possessed at that time.

If we're seeking to spiritualize the tremendous wealth that many of the current American prosperity teachers possess then I'll tell you, Peter's boat would need to be the size of the QE2 and far from wood it would have to be made from solid gold!

Who said it was Peters boat to begin with?

Regardless - here is a good question

Matt 14:29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

How large does the boat have to be for a person to come down to water level?
