Microsoft has released contradictory statements that SEEM to mean:

Any hardware that meets the minimum requirements will be able to install Windows 11, even if the hardware is too obsolete to run it well. Computers doing this will probably not be able to receive Windows Updates, nor will MS support them if they have any problems.

Microsoft has just released a Windows 11 installation that requires a clean install--you must remove all your programs. The current Preview versions simply upgrade Windows 10 without destroying your other files.

My advice? Don't do it. The new version does not include the controversial TPM security program. I suspect that MS is having major problems with TPM, and 11 is untrustworthy unless those problems are solved.

I'm with you on that. I've been working in IT for 25 odd years, and will stick to windows 10 / Ubuntu for another good few years at least. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

IT'S HERE!

Microsoft has just announced that Windows 11 will be released on October 5, 2021! With a huge waiting list, MS will decide who will go first, and the list will not be complete until the middle of 2022.

It appears that MS intends to release 11 to newer machines in the Windows Insider Program first.

And the bad news--they won't be able to run Android aps, as promised. MS hopes to add that ability later.

Wading through contradictory reports, Microsoft has announced that they will lower the requirements for Windows 11, but you should not install 11 if it doesn't meet the original requirements because it won't run well.

Why are they doing this? Because tech geeks have figured out ways to install 11 on computers that do not meet the requirements. One guy even installed 11 on a Mac computer. MS won't stop them, but they will not support these installations, nor will they allow them to receive updates.

And so...some geeks have figured out how to bypass this, and they can install 11 updates on computers that don't meet the minimum requirements.

My advice? Leave that to the geeks. If your computer doesn't support 11, don't install it.

Continuing to clarify their contradictory statements, Microsoft conceded that most Windows 10 computers will be able to bypass their minimum requirements and install Windows 11, but it won't run well.

And a new problem has come up. Some online games that run well on Windows 10 won't run on Windows 11 because the GAME doesn't meet 11's security requirements.

Well Gang, it's the first full week of football, and the Windows 11 sports gadget has miserably failed the test.

Connecting you to the Microsoft Sports site, the gadget gives you the latest scores--from several hours ago. This Sunday morning it was still reporting yesterday's college football games as being at halftime.

Come on MS, you better recover from this fumble!

@Vince53
I somewhat disagree with your statement here. I am on Windows11 already and my machine is technically an "unsupported" machine for the operating system. However I have yet to experience a single issue on my Windows 11 pc. So I guess it depends on the user and how smart they are and all. But to say you shouldn't install it if your pc does not support it I feel is wrong advice. You should say to be careful installing it as product features and specficiations may vary. Have a good week!

@Vince53,
If this version of 11 is power hungry I have yet to notice it. ;) Just saying it seems lighter than Win10 right now.

Jesse, the Windows 11 Preview Version that you are using right now is not power-hungry because it does not use TPM. Almost everyone, including me, who uses it says that it runs well.

When the full version of 11 comes out, it will require TPM, and that is a power-eating, complicated program that will strain both your hardware and software resources.

Interesting indeed.

I've been using Microsoft software since before Windows or the Internet existed, and will wait a few years to suss this version out.

The Plot Thickens!

Microsoft has announced that Virtual Machines (that allow you to run programs on a separated operating system) that do not meet the minimum requirements will not receive Windows 11 updates.

Huh?

Okay, a virtual machine is a computer program that creates an artificial computer, with its own operating system, on your computer. If something goes wrong, it will not affect your computer itself. You can then delete the virtual machine and re-install it without the problem.

So?

Remember I had pointed out that I saw a budget laptop with Windows 10 Pro? 10 Pro allows you to create a virtual machine that will run 11--but now it can't receive upgrades.

One piece of good news and two pieces of bad news:

1) Windows 11 does not have the legendary Blue Screen of Death
2) They replaced it with the Black Screen of Death
3) This is not a joke.

Which is why I proudly use Linux Mint.

Fellow Linux Mint user here! I used Scientific Linux (which was like CentOS, a fork of Red Hat) through version 6.9, but sadly it is now End of Life.

I started using Linux Mint before Mate and Cinammon became widely available. I have to confess I have concerns about the upstream Ubuntu distro switching from APT to Snaps for package management, and the Debian branch of Linux Mint does not seem to be as actively maintained.

Also, I really dislike Systemd, and I have yet to find a good, currently supported distro that is without it.

Well, that might actually be a blessing in disguise given the tendency of Windows 10 updates to break things. I had to, with extreme difficulty, revert an update and disable updates in order to keep VMware Workstation running.
