I'm not sure what your point is here in relation to the OP article.

Are you simply wanting to clarify the locus of the article for me and draw my attention to the fact that the subs in question here are "only" nuclear powered and not diesel powered? Or what?

(answering the thread title) Um well it's Joe Biden and not Donald Trump at the wheel....


I gotta admit I was really hoping this was over how shabbily we treated our allies with the Afghanistan pullout than over nuke submarine contracts, but maybe the contracts were a final straw...

The big picture behind all of this is the US deciding to move its defense posture away from pointless nation-building exercises and toward countering future threats to itself and Pacific allies from China.

I pretty sure this is represents zero deviation from Trump era priorities, and its something I agree with in principle.

In practice I do wonder if there might have been a way to let the French down easy. Maybe not tho.
