Along with sowing two crops in one field, wearing clothes made from a mixture of threads and numerous other 'offences'.
You are wrong about those two being capital offenses.

nope morally it is wrong; HOWEVER in terms of secular law there is nothing about adultery that hurts people that are not involved. In other words, you cheating on your partner has no affect on my safety unless you start doing things in the name of that that do affect others ( such as people using drugs who turn to crime to support their habit your decision to be unfaithful has nothing to do with me unless I am your partner.

only if you do not consider what the effects are on their children, parents and other relatives and close friends.

Making it a criminal offense would make it worse for all those people as well.

Well, let me consider a couple cases.

Joe and Janey have been married for years, and have a child. Joe cheats on Janey with Barbara, who is single. We have a case of adultery.

Joe and Janey are both single and living next to each other, and have been romantically involved for years. They have a child who lives with Janey. Joe cheats on Janey with Barbara, who is single. Since nobody is married here, there is no adultery.

Since the second case isn't going to be illegal, I see no reason for the first case to be illegal, so I don't support criminalizing adultery. I wouldn't really oppose it either, but I would oppose stiff penalties for adultery.

I think this thread convincingly shows that (pace the other thread) a vast majority do NOT want to base the Constitution 'on the Bible'. If one of the Ten Commandments can't make the cut, then basing it 'on the Bible' just doesn't mean anything.

(But as usual, those who would support such a thing would just use the Bible as an excuse to put the things they want in, and ignore the things they don't.)

As a springboard off the "Biblical Constitution" thread, I wanted to see if there was support for making adultery illegal (male or female; husband or wife). This would be biblical, but I'm sure directly conflicts with liberal ideology and the bipartisan actions of many of our elected representatives.

Adulty is illegal in Christianity , yet many pastor, many church staff, many President of Bible college commit adultery and still keep their job.

The obsession of Christian inject “Biblical teaching” in politics/ GOV needs to stop and start practicing Biblical teaching in Churches.

Compare: Here in an illustrative story form is the general idea of the New Testament, you can find in most every book: Grace:

3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

11 “No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
-- Bible Gateway passage: John 8:1-11 - New International Version

While we can show this also in many ways in direct instructions (example: Matthew 7:1-5), the story is a perfect illustration.
what happened to the man she was committing adultery with?

This would be biblical

You appear to be confusing Judaism with Christianity. What is behind the idea that mandating national law is the business of the church? What legal powers would be used within the church?

As I recall adultery used to be illegal. Old blue eyes was charged under the statute in New York. Personally as someone whom is polyamorous I am against it as a law. Why should my wife and I be forced to follow someone else's view of how a relationship is supposed to function?
Marriage in itself is religiously based. So?
And yet we marry under the State regardless whether the ceremony is Religiously orientated. So why shouldn't it be against the Law if we break the contract that is bond by the state by committing adultery.

Because marriage is a civil contract between two individuals. The state oversees the contract, but is not responsible for enforcing it.

Marriage started as a function of secular society and remains to this day based on inheritance and other secular ideals. They many religions have traditions they adopted from the secular institution does not change that.
