This world exists because it pleases God for this world to exist.

Beyond that, we're speculating.
This messed up world with all its tragedies, satan roaming around, Christ having to go to the cross, sin, death and the need for hell would not have to be pleasing to God. The Garden was a pleasing place ans=d shows what God really would personally want for man.
This world exists because it is the very best place for willing individuals to fulfill their earthly objective.

Though filled with sin, this world still pleases God. The moment it stops pleasing Him, it will come to an end.

Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I'm coming back to faith and I have been struggling with a question that seems basic but I am struggling to find an answer: "Heaven and Hell are eternal. If our ultimate fate is to reside in one of these two forever, why would come to this world in the first place? What is the meaning of this world? That is to say, why should I care about anything in this world OTHER than for how it affects salvation for myself and others? If I should only care about that, than why have this life in the first place, and why is our decision regarding salvation here final?"
Any insight and especially passages to help me understand this would mean the world to me, if you'll pardon the pun. Thanks you.

Firstly, the reason why we all are here in this present world, is because via Satan's original sin caused GOD to end... that old world that He created perfect without sin. I'm talking about way... before Adam and Eve. In Ezekiel 28, God used the prince and king of Tyrus as 'types' for Satan. It's a parable, or allegory about Satan when he at one time served God right at His Altar, and was perfect in his ways. God created Satan perfect in beauty the anointed cherub that covereth (i.e., the Mercy Seat). Satan coveted God's Throne, and that is how he fell, which was actually the very first sin, ever.

So God ended that old world when Satan used a kingdom back then having ten horns, seven heads, but only seven crowns (Revelation 12:3-4). He drew a third of the angels (stars) into rebellion with him back then.

Then God brought this present... world we are in now, beginning right after Satan's fall (Genesis 1:2). God put back His creation of today, but only partially. Apostle Paul covered this point in Romans 8:18-25, and Jeremiah also did in Jeremiah 4:23-28. Today, the creation mourns, and seeks a release along with us. Nothing... in this present world is perfect. We often think God's creation is perfect today, but it's actually not. The majority of the earth's surface is still covered with those "waters" of Genesis 1:2.

The only way to have even an inkling of what happened before, even that there was a previous world prior to today's world, one must... get into God's Holy Writ and ask Him for understanding. Science can tell us millions of details about the fossil record, but it still won't give the understanding God gives in His Word of what happened in that old world, why He brought this second world with His creation in bondage to corruption like Paul said, and how the world to come is going to be like.

God's ultimate plan (or part of it) is to build an eternal place known as Heave to us for angels and humans (entities of freewill) to live with Him forever. Law is thus established to measure on who shall enter this Heaven as decided by a Final Judgment.

At the same time whoever break Law will have to leave the current dwelling place or realm of God (this place is the current heaven). Eden resides inside God's realm but since Satan and Adam/Eve broke the Law, they need to leave God's current dwelling realm and wait for the Final Judgment to come. However a factor to consider is that Adam and Eve have off springs and they are innocent. God's decision is thus to allow Adam and Eve to live on earth (a place no longer inside God's realm). On earth, the descendants of Adam and Eve can thus given a chance to make their way back to Heaven.

Still it is speculated from Adam to Noah that no humans on earth can possibly survive the Final Judgment by Law. Earth is thus subject to a total destruction (by Noah's Flood). A difference however is made between the path of humans and the path of fallen angels all due to God's mercy through Jesus Christ. With Jesus' bloodshed at some point of human history, it not only lawfully allows humans to live on earth, but also allows them skip the total destruction by the judgment of Law. Jesus makes it possible that humans from Adam till the end are judged by a series of covenants instead of Law. By Law no humans can possibly set foot on the final Heaven, but by covenants humans considered righteous can enter the final Heaven.

So are you saying you believe that it is a literal battle that will be fought in the Valley of Megiddo?
I suspect Revelation is a figurative presentation of God's radical cleansing of the Universe of unrighteousness at the end.
When you say you interpret precious little of the Revelation, do you mean you don't concern yourself with the meaning of the text? In which case, I am as puzzled as before, if not moreso.
There's a lot of figurative "stuff" in Revelation that I do not try to puzzle out.

I'm more concerned with actual NT teaching, than I am with prophetic riddles (Numbers 12:8).

Ah, then I suspect we are similar in that regard. Over-reliance on the Apocalypse, or rather an over-reliance on trying to parse the Apocalypse over and against the clearer statements of the New Testament more often than not leads to serious problems.

Hence when I read about Armageddon, I'm less interested in talking about some great end of the world battle as I am about God's victory over the principalities and powers of the world won by Christ--the Lamb of God seated on the throne--and who lives and reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords, whom heaven must keep until the time of God's promised restoration of all things.

God's Judgment isn't about battle and conflict, but resolution to all injustice. After all, we do encounter Judgment at the cross, we encounter God's way of dealing with evil, dealing with injustice, dealing with sin, and with death itself: Jesus was crucified, the Son of God paid our ransom, He has satisfied all debts in order that we might enjoy the Jubilee of our God. He has opened up the prison doors, set the captives free, He has granted free and full pardon by His grace, and in Him we are no longer the hostile enemies of God, but have peace with God as beloved children, adopted into the Household of God and seated at His Table.

Injustice remains in the world, but this is a dying world crying out in pain. God will, in the end, bring full resolution to all these things, and usher in the full newness that is found in our Lord Jesus, for ourselves, and for all creation.

The fire of God's Judgment is also the fire of renewal. Fire acts in two ways, it burns up that which is impure, and therefore purifies the lump in the fire. Therefore, "Our God is a consuming fire" says the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews. And thus future Judgment is less about God angrily destroying the world, as God justly fixing the world by fully and finally dealing with all injustice, evil, and death by the radical transformation of all creation on the Last Day.

This "world" would not "please" God, but God will tolerate this world because it provides the very best place for humans to fulfill their objective.

That wonderful Garden situation was a lousy (impossible place for humans to fulfill their earthly objective, while this messed up world is the best place.

A couple things...first, I didn't say God was pleased with the world as it is but that the world exists because it pleases God for it to exist. Second, I'm not sure what you mean by "objective" since the purpose of man is to worship God and the mission that exists only exists because it is God's will to redeem creation through the cross. The world remains because God has a plan for it, a plan that is His pleasure to carry out.

Everything needs to start with the objective.

If there is this eternal intelligence it would be at the epitome of the best it could be and not in the process of improvement. It would be the ultimate bad or good but not somewhere in-between. Why be bad when He can be good just as easily? The ultimate “good” would be what is called Godly type Love (to be defined later) and is a totally unselfish type Love. Since this God would be able to direct our thinking, why would He have us think of him as being totally bad, when He could make us think bad was good and thus, He would be worthy of praise? If God were bad and we praise a “Good God” than we are not praising Him.

The difference and issues begin with misunderstanding of the objective. Most Christians like: Man’s objective is to bring glory to God” and have scripture references to support that objective, but a person can take any commandment of God given in scripture and have Biblical support for call that command: “Man’s objective”. We are certainly commanded to do that command, so why is it not man’s objective?

There are the two superior commands which all other commands are subordinate to and combined would be like: “Love God (and secondly others) with all your heart, soul, mind, and energy.” That appears to be man’s “Mission Statement”. The huge problem with fulfilling that “Mission Statement” is the fact that the “Love” needed would have to be huge, way beyond anything man could develop, learn, deserve, earn, pay back, be instinctive to man, or somehow just be forced upon humans.

Thus the reason you have free will, is because it is required for you to complete your earthly objective.

This messed up world which includes satan roaming around is not here for your pleasure, but to help you become like God Himself in that you have the unique, unbelievable Godly type Love (God himself is Love).

There are just somethings even an all-powerful Creator cannot do (there are things impossible to do), like create another Christ, since Christ has always existed, the big impossibility for us is; create humans with instinctive Godly type Love, since Godly type Love is not instinctive. Godly type love has to be the result of a free will decision by the being, to make it the person’s Love apart from God. In other words: If the Love was in a human from the human’s creation it would be a robotic type love and not a Godly type Love. Also, if God “forces” this Love on a person (Kind a like a shotgun wedding) it would not be “loving” on God’s part and the love forced on the person would not be Godly type Love. This Love has to be the result of a free will moral choice with real alternatives (for humans those alternatives include the perceived pleasures of sin for a season.)

Read the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15, the young son was generously given more then he could, which the father would realize. The prodigal son returned to his father, not out of “Love”, but selfishly want a job he did not deserve or should even ask for. Just because the son became just willing to accept pure undeserved charity from the father he hated, allowed the father to shower him with gifts. God is that way with you.

God has created beings to shower them with the greatest gifts possible, the greatest gift being having a Love like His.

If there is this Creator of the universe out there, His “creations” could not really “do” anything for Him, so this Creator would have to be seen as a Giver (Unselfish Lover) and not trying to “get” something from His creation.

Why would God have a totally unselfish type of Love, since He personally would not get anything out of it? If God’s “Love” is some kind of knee jerk reaction, then it is really meaningless (something like; gravity which is nice to have, but everyone automatically has it). God Loves us in spite of what we have done, who we are or what we will do, so it has to be by His choice.

God would create the right universe for the sake of the individuals that will accept His gift (the most powerful force [Love] in all universes, since that force [Love] compels even God to do all He does) and thus we become like He is (the greatest gift He could give).

What keeps the all-powerful Creator from just giving whatever He wants to his creation, eliminating the need for free will and this earthly time.

This Love is way beyond anything humans could develop, obtain, learn, earn, pay back or ever deserve, so it must be the result of a gift that is accepted or rejected (a free will choice).

This “Love” is much more than just an emotional feeling; it is God Himself (God is Love). If you see this Love you see God.

All mature adults do stuff that hurts others (this is called sin) these transgressions weigh on them, burden them, to the point the individual seeks relief (at least early on before they allow their hearts to be hardened). Lots of “alternatives” can be tried for relief, but the only true relief comes from God with forgiveness (this forgiveness is pure charity [grace/mercy/Love]). The correct humble acceptance of this Forgiveness (Charity) automatically will result in Love (we are taught by Jesus and our own experience “…he that is forgiven much will Love much…”). Sin is thus made hugely significant, so there will be an unbelievable huge debt to be forgiven of and thus result in an unbelievable huge “Love” (Godly type Love).

Sin has purpose in helping willing humans in fulfilling their objective. God does not like it but allows it.

I will answer what the purpose of this world is.

It has no purpose, it is dead, death.

God made the most of what there is then, to be fruitful and multiply, to continue life.

God longsuffers, all the evil that goes on, because these are all Gods attributes, which we join Him in, as well as Him giving His life, being betrayed, nowhere to lay His head, and then shows the purpose of His creation, to gather in one, all things, in Christ, which are in Heaven and which are on earth, in Him..

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Ephesians 1:19 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

God does all according to His own will, the will of man does not even exist. Then you know right away, all who do not understand the idea, that all is God, and all is created by God, and for God, they are that non purpose, as the only purpose they seek, is for themselves.
