A type of midrash was used by John in writing Revelation which was also inspired just as all books of the bible are inspired. It certainly had meaning for the readers of that era, but it also has meaning for us through the ages, and will certainly be made more clear as prophecy comes to pass.

We don't know yet who the beast is.

I have to disagree with your statement based on this bible verse

Amos 3:7
Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

I created this poll to see how many here think Nero was the beast of Revelation.

And how many here do not think Nero was the beast of Revelation

Have you ever done a poll based on your interpretation of the beast of revelation or what the reformation leaders taught?

By the way is there not two different beast in Revelalation?

No, regarding the first question part a. Regarding part b, I am not going to do a poll on what the reformers taught about their view of the pope/papacy being the Antichrist/beast because it is not clear to me what the forum rules allow in that regards.

Yes, regarding the second question. The second beast is considered the false prophet.

Why do you not ask them?

Kind of a tricky poll haven't voted but I do believe that at the time of John's writing that Nero was indeed alluded to, Kaiser Neron or one the variants of that does indeed at up to 666 in both the Greek and Hebrew numeral system. I however think that Nero is just a kind of shadow/type of the real antichrist ultimately.

This. I think it’s possible that Revelation has both a past fulfillment (the destruction of Jerusalem and Nero) and a future fulfillment. Every generation tends to think it’s the end. I think it’s wise to be vigilant, keep our lamps burning, and be peaceable and wise.

NO, there are THREE Beasts. The Sea Beast, the Land Beast, and the Scarlet Beast. And a Dragon thrown in on the side, just to make an earthly parody of the 4 heavenly beasts surrounding the throne in Revelation 4:6-8 that cried "Holy, holy, holy..." day and night.

Study the Bible and compare opinions about it. A Christian needs to make up their own mind rather than relying on men. After all it's not Martin Luther's or any Pope's knees that I'm going to be held responsible for.

Amos or any prophet for that matter is dependent on whether or not God chooses to reveal His secrets.

"The secret things belong unto Jehovah our God; but the things that are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, " Deuteronomy 29:29

He does keep secrets.

"And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within His own authority". Acts 1:7

Exactly...like so many things Christians divide themselves on, it can be both.

NO, there are THREE Beasts. The Sea Beast, the Land Beast, and the Scarlet Beast. ...

Revelation 17:3 describes the scarlet beast in terms similar to the sea beast of Revelation chapter 13, which made war with, and overcame, God’s people (Rev. 13:5-7). It was this earlier period of persecution that caused the pure woman to flee into the wilderness during the prophetic period of 1,260 days/years, from A.D. 538-1798 (Rev. 12:13-14). Though living in an age of ecumenism, Protestants would do well to remember the terrible persecution of the past because, according to prophecy, something similar, but only worse, will happen again.

Read Revelation 17:8. Compare the wording of this verse with Revelation 13:8. How does Revelation 13:3 clarify the three phases of the existence and activities of the beast?

God loves everyone and calls us to love everyone
It is never comfortable to have error exposed—not to the one having to say it nor to the one listening. It is always much easier to compromise or to say nothing. God has patience with each one us, and leads us to truth as we are able. All Christians are growing as God leads them.

God loves everyone and calls us to love everyone as well. Part of loving other is to speak the truth in love. We must accept the truth no matter what others may think, and no matter how deep it cuts us (2 Thessalonians 2:10).

Nero was a form of antichrist as are to this day many leaders. That spirit is loose in the world. But Nero committed suicide in 68ad which ended his rule. In Revelation The Antichist's rule ends for a season of 1000 years to eventually rise for a short time and be tossed in the lake of fire stripped of any power. He will no longer be a pest of this world.

In Revelation, John was to write of future events. He told us this at the outset of Revelation 1 in verse 1. By the 9th verse just before he has a spiritual visit/encounter he states he was in the spirit on the Isle of Patmos. We know he was at this time near the end of his life, He was a prisoner there . We know this to be in the 90's AD just by simple historic fact. Thus he is writing of future evens in the 90's AD well after the time of Nero. All you need do is read Revelation 1:1-11.
