Will he be the next big scandal for the Biden Administration?

1) Because of the new Bob Woodward book (which so far hasn't been officially confirmed or denied). I'm sure lots of people will support his undermining Trump, but this is serious stuff according to the military regulations that he is suppose to be subject to. Even some folks who dislike Trump say at least he should resign for this, while other folks say he can or should face a Senate inquiry and a court martial if the Woodward account is true.

U.S. top general secretly called China over fears Trump could spark war -report

2) For his role in Afghanistan.

A) Milley testimony has been that "they didn't know the Afghan government would collapse so fast." But Kayleigh McEnany was in a Trump administration meeting with Milley where the head of the CIA warned that Afghan government would collapse in 2 days without US involvement.

B) Was he partially responsible for some of the debacle in Afghanistan?

I'd go all the way to the Washington Post article, but it's paywalled. I'll settle for this one that purports to quote it:

New Reporting Shows General Milley Committed Treason

“General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise.”

This should concern the heck out of every American. You don't do that in war if you want to win, and that is not how declarations of war are delivered. The Chinese general, if he is any good, knows that Milley is a fool or a liar. Neither of which will gain his respect, or that of his government.

I'm surprised I haven't seen news of him or other high-level officials resign over this. Quite a few resigned under Trump, in part because they didn't think their integrity would allow them to continue to serve under him and his leadership. The lack of resignations after we officially left Afghanistan, and Biden's horrible leadership, suggests a gross lack of integrity at these senior positions. I think he should have resigned by now if he knew better than to do things the way we did them but wasn't listened to.

We came close to having a military coup and perhaps a "Wag the Dog" type of war. A mentally unstable person like Trump should have never been a Commander in Chief. And he, and others, still talk about rigged elections without. This talk, without evidence, is dangerous and should not considered ""free speech." Thank God for people like General Milley.

If Milley did buck the chain of command, it was to prevent a possible nuclear war. He likely felt his job is a small sacrifice to save the world from the wrath of a petulant child with zero humility. He agreed with Pelosi that trump incited an insurrection against America's democracy. I am grateful for the checks placed in government to prevent unhinged leaders from causing catastrophe.

I completely agree I'm also worried about this kind of situation being repeated in the future and suggest that 3 issues be considered:

1) Measures to stop people in authority from repeating unbiased claims about rigged elections.

2) Measures to punish people in authority who have been repeating these unbiased claims.

3) Measures to insure that all future presidents are mentally stable and prodemocracy. This is probably the most important step and the most difficult to achieve.

You seem to posit the idea of accountability for elected officials. I agree this is essential for a strong democracy, yet it is seldom seen. In this sense it is us vs them, as politicians protect each other from being held responsible for their actions. Many politicians have manipulated folks into believing it is dem vs rep, thus decreasing our power as an electorate. Biased perceptions keep people voting for their tribe. Biases and denial also coerce many to believe those claims of election fraud thrown around, which diminishes faith in democracy in their selfish pursuits of power.

What nonsense. Trump never came close to starting a war, let alone a nuclear war. Milley didn't like Trump, so he decided that whatever he decided was more important than the person who was actually elected to bear that responsibility. That would be a military coup. Yet the same people who have been crying about an insurrection on Jan. 6 are just fine with this.

Will he be the next big scandal for the Biden Administration?

The alleged incident took place in the Trump administration. Are you continuing to blame Biden for stuff done on Trump's watch?

Isn't that kind of thing, the reason Americans turned away from Trump and his supporters.

And I expect that a lot of Americans are pleased there was a rational person keeping an eye on Trump (who was increasingly frantic and unhinged after the election).

It's not the first time. As the Nixon administration fell apart, there was a general (Alexander Haig) who informed all the right people that in the event Nixon pushed the button, they were to consult with him first.

In each case, the general was upholding his oath to the Constitution, making sure that a possibly deranged president was not going to take an action that would destroy America.

Milley's actions were commendable. He was justifiably concerned, after Trump used U.S. troops to disperse a legal and peaceful demonstration, that He might do something much worse.

Shortly before the deadly attack on the US Capitol on 6 January, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Gen Mark Milley, told aides the US was facing a “Reichstag moment” because Donald Trump was preaching “the gospel of the Führer”, according to an eagerly awaited book about Trump’s last year in office.
...
Leonnig and Rucker report that Milley spoke to an “old friend”, who warned the general that Trump and his allies were trying to “overturn the government” in response to Joe Biden’s election victory, which Trump falsely maintains was the result of electoral fraud.

Milley is reported to have said: “They may try, but they’re not going to (bleep) succeed. You can’t do this without the military. You can’t do this without the CIA and the FBI. We’re the guys with guns.”

Top US general warned of ‘Reichstag moment’ in Trump’s turbulent last days

No way to turn that inside out. Milley and his collegues were going to uphold their oaths regardless. And that was the point at which the insurrection was doomed.
