I was 5 years old, and had no idea who Jesus was, until my 1st grade teacher told us a little about Him. See, back then, every night, demons would attack me and scare the life out of me. So, I asked Him to help me with these things pinning me down in my bed. He didn't ignore me, but rescued me from those attacks and saved me on top of it.

Wow

That is awesome. Thank you for sharing.

John 9:31 King James Bible
Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Deuteronomy 1:45
And you returned and wept before the LORD, but He would not listen to your voice or give ear to you.

Job 27:8
For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?

Job 35:13
Surely God does not listen to empty pleas, and the Almighty does not take note of it.

Psalm 34:15
The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their cry.

Psalm 66:18
If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.

Psalm 145:19
He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.

Proverbs 15:29
The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.

Thank you for those scriptures. I am a sinner that has been repenting. So, hopefully there is some mercy.

I grew up in South Africa, and we have a lot of religious freedom, for which I'm deeply thankful.

That is great!!! Sometimes it feels like that people in this country are losing their religious freedom.

I think it depends on your story.. Is it a prayer of repentance or just some drive through prayer, coming from someone, who is not really wanting to give their life to Christ, but they are praying simply because, they were raised in a Christian home!

Well, I have been repenting. But I don't always want to give my life to Jesus. But I pray for the desire to do so. I do want to live my life for myself sometimes. But I will admit, fear can be a motivation for me to call on Jesus. For example, I do not want to go to hell. Maybe that's the wrong attitude. But I am going to continue to call on Jesus.

They don't always want to do things their own way without God. I know that people say that people who continue in their sin, love their sin. But in order for people to love their sin, they would have to be proud of their sin. People are proud of the things that they love. They don't feel shamed by the things they love. Sometimes they are just trapped in their sin. And it seems impossible to get out of.

But I have been repenting, like I said in another post, but it seems impossible, because sin for some people can be like a drug. It isn't just our behavior God is concerned about. But it's our thoughts. For example, a person can have victory over inappropriate content by simply not looking at it, but he may find himself lusting after characters on TV and not even realizing it. It is simply done habitually. That is why I find repenting very difficult.

Lusting after TV characters without realizing it, isn't the same as sinning willfully. And the thing is when it comes to resisting sin, the Holy Spirit helps us, after we accept Jesus Christ and become born again.

Do you know the story of Jesus and the Syrophoencian Woman? (Mark 7:24-30)

Jesus refused to heal her daughter calling her a dog.

But she told Him That even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall of the table of the children.

and so Jesus marvelling at her faith healed her daughter.

So yes Jesus will heed your prayer if you have faith in His loving truth, just like that Syrophoencian woman once did.

(Finding Jesus as Saviour of your heart is greatest, i'm sure that Syrophoencian woman was a believer after Jesus healed her daughter, what you think?)

Thank you.

This was very encouraging. So, what do I think? I think that I will continue to pray and ask God for mercy and pray for the healing of my loved one. Thank you for your post.

Peace.

That goes well with what happened when the centurion asked Jesus to heal his servant Matthew 8:5-13

God will hear your prayer and may even answer it. Several folks have given great references when Jesus did just that. They didn't necessarily have faith that he was the son of God, but they at least had faith that he could heal. God can even work miracles through unbelievers.

Thank you for this. It is very encouraging. I do believe is the son of God. I do believe he is Lord. I just haven't been living for him. So, now, I have been repenting.

God can even work miracles through unbelievers. He talks about it in Matthew 7:21-23. However, even though He chose to work miracles through them, they do not believe, therefore they will not be saved from the judgement to come.

Hopefully this will not be me. But it is good to warn other people about this.

Will my prayers be unheard if I am not a Christian? If I call upon the name of the Lord Jesus, in response to a tragic event that is happening, will my prayers be unheard?

Think of the story of the "Good Samaritan", religious people walked past a man who was robbed and refused to help him, then a Samaritan came and had mercy on him. Samaritans we considered by Jews to be unbelievers. Jesus said the one who was a neighbor to the robbed man was the one who had mercy, the Samaritan.

In a reverse kind of logic, God is not a religious person, He is one who has mercy. God answers many prayers, even prayers from unbelievers.

However God is always moving people toward true faith, that being faith in Jesus.

Thank you very much. Like I said on another post, I have been repenting. And this is nice to know. Thank you.

And you know, you are perfectly welcome to ask the Holy Spirit directly to help you. He has the most wonderful personality that you'll ever know in this life. His love, gentleness and kindness is truly Heavenly. He'll help you understand how much God loves you. Just ask Him. You'll be so glad you did.

Unrepented sin CAN hinder one's prayers, but God is not a machine. He can override that principle, if it still serves His purposes.

I understand what you are saying. But that's also what's confusing.

When Moses prayed and asked God not to destroy the people of Israel when they were in the wilderness after God was going to destroy them, was it really God's purpose to destroy them or did Moses change God's mind? If someone's sick in the hospital and God wants them dead, can you still pray for God to have mercy and hopefully God changes his mind, or not? If God wanted them healed, wouldn't he heal them anyways without prayer?

So what's the point of praying for healing or for someone else if God's purpose gets done anyways? God wouldn't need my prayers if my loved one was going to be healed because it was God's will, right? And praying would be a waste of time if God's purpose was to kill the one I love, right? That is something that's confusing.

How did you go from Saved to un-Saved?

I have never really claimed to be saved. I have ones claimed to be Christian, but I have always struggled with claiming to be saved. I called myself a Christian because my theology matched with Christian theology. But my lifestyle did not match my theology. I am repenting of that right now.

Why waffle on that point? Just get right with Him [per 1 John 1:9] and resume your relationship with Him.
He paid a terrible Price to make that option available to you.

Yeah, I wish that it was that easy. But for me it seems impossible. But I have been repenting, well, trying to anyways. But I have been asking God's forgiveness for my sins and asking his help to turn from them.

That's an interesting question.

Thank you

I have family members who aren't believers and even have their "religion" on FB set to "I believe in myself" and yet every time something happens (both petty and serious) they're on FB asking for prayers

I don't want to be this way. It maybe a family member that ended up in the hospital that caused me to call on God. But I don't want to just call on God whenever a tragic happens.

I just want to say we live in an age now of special grace so to speak. That is to say, the Son was given as an offering sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins and our redemption is in Him. There has been and will be no other time where the choice is so easy yet people refuse the offer ( Jesus Christ). There is a time coming where this age ends and we go into different time periods and finally to the new heaven and earth forever. At that time the Godhead ends it's separate rolls and is rolled back into the Father and will remain one forever 1 Corinthians 15:8 ( there are some very good commentaries on this, one of which is Barnes). We have a provision now in those rolls of the Son and Holy Spirit, why not take the offer ?

It actually sounds like you are a believer already. You may just not realize it. Remember, you don't have to be "good enough" before the Lord welcomes you as His child. Transformation is an ongoing process, we all have stuff we struggle with. As long as we are prepared to follow Him, one baby step at a time, He'll walk with us and be our guiding light into eternity.

But and it's a big but, to gain the help of the Holy Spirit we must receive Him and that comes after accepting Jesus Christ not just knowing He exists.
