Milley secretly called Chinese officials out of fear Trump would 'attack' in final days, book claims

During the final months of former President Donald Trump's term, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley made two phone calls to Chinese officials in fear that Trump would create conflict with the communist nation, a new book has claimed.

The book, excerpted in the Washington Post, also stated that Milley told Zuocheng that he would warn him in advance should America decide to "attack."

The book also noted that Milley requested senior officers swear an "oath" that his involvement be necessary should Trump give an order to launch nuclear weapons during his final days in office.

That senior military chiefs felt the commander in chief was mentally unstable, and a threat to national security.

Given that he thought Trump's mental state was decaying, those calls seem reasonable to head off a China first strike scenario. I am sure if Trump called for a first strike that Milley thought was warned that Milley would not call first. But since any first strike is really unearned, it was good to call China and keep them calm.

And Miley should not have to do this, that is the job of the State Department.

I'm grateful to Gen Miley for taking the necessary actions to prevent a hot war....

One call took place on Oct. 30, 2020, four days before the election that unseated President Trump, and the other on Jan. 8, 2021, two days after the Capitol siege carried out by his supporters in a quest to cancel the vote.

The first call was prompted by Milley’s review of intelligence suggesting the Chinese believed the United States was preparing to attack. That belief, the authors write, was based on tensions over military exercises in the South China Sea, and deepened by Trump’s belligerent rhetoric toward China.
“General Li, I want to assure you that the American government is stable and everything is going to be okay,” Milley told him. “We are not going to attack or conduct any kinetic operations against you.”

Based on what info?......that he didn't like him? Most governments would call that sedition......especially this part:

So you would welcome a military coup?.....because that it what it would have resulted in.......

The actions were taken to avoid a war, not implement a military coup.

Nope, he was working to prevent a war. I don't know what Trump was doing to make the general think he was unstable, but putting in checks to make sure no crazy orders get out as well as calming down the Chinese military, are actions in service of the country.

Remember, the general swore on the Constitution, not to Trump himself.

You can try to justify it as much as you want but it still boils down to a coup. And, BTW, what actions were taken that would convince Milley that was a risk of Trump starting a war?......maybe you have inside info that we don't?

It seems you probably have never served in the military but it is entirely proper to refuse to carry out orders that are illegal.....which Milley was certainly able to do. But 'planning' for it......well.......that begins treading in the realm of treason........If this story is accurate hopefully this story will be fully vetted and investigated though with the Dems in charge that part is unlikely.......

It is not treason to plan to refuse illegal orders if you think you might get one.

It is not like he was planning to remove Trump.

The book, excerpted in the Washington Post, also stated that Milley told Zuocheng that he would warn him in advance should America decide to "attack."

"Gen. Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we're going to attack, I'm going to call you ahead of time," Milley added, as reported by the book, "Peril," which is set to be released next week. "It's not going to be a surprise."

The book also noted that Milley requested senior officers swear an "oath" that his involvement be necessary should Trump give an order to launch nuclear weapons during his final days in office.

Normally, I would consider these actions to be out of line, but considering Trump and his state department, well... good job.
