Oh, who lives in a pineapple under the sea… around the Retriever Seamount 200 miles off the New England coast in the Atlantic Ocean?

Well according to one marine biologist, it’s SpongeBob SquarePants and his mate, Patrick Star.

The yellow and pink duo from the iconic children’s cartoon were spotted next to each other by a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) remote-controlled submersible launched from the Okeanos Explorer, just as they share the same block in their fictional home of Bikini Bottom

A starfish expert quickly saw the image taken by the submersible and shared it on Twitter, commenting on the striking resemblance the two lifeforms shared to their cartoon counterparts.

Henry and June!

I used to be kind of friendly with the guy who created the music for the KaBlaam! title sequence: Jeff Baker aka King Django, a Jewish ska musician from New Jersey. He remixed the Toasters track "2-Tone Army" and it was used as the theme song for KaBlaam!

Yup that's him. I used to go to a lot of his shows when he would play here in Florida and he'd hang out and talk with me afterward about ska and reggae. I learned a lot about the history of the genre by talking to him, because a lot of the songs I thought were by The Specials or other bands had been originally recorded in the 60s by artists that most people haven't heard of.

He did a great album of traditional Jewish music arranged in like a reggae and ska way called "Roots & Culture". It was in regular rotation in my CD player when I still had CDs, but I still listen to his music on Spotify when I'm out driving around. A lot of it is happy-sounding and fits with the general vibe of Florida despite his being from NJ.

I was too old for Spongebob Squarepants.
Too young as well, apparently. My kids started watching it during the first season and I busted a gut. It didn't hurt that I'm from Miami and have a long history of reef diving; early on there were a number of jokes that seemed especially tailored to marine biology geeks.
