Does the Bible contain any conditional promises for truth seekers that can be empirically tested in this lifetime, to confirm the veracity of the Christian faith? By conditional promise I mean any kind of predictive statement of the form if you do X, you will experience Y, where Y is promised to take place in this lifetime (i.e. the person doesn't have to wait until death to see the outcome), as long as the seeker satisfies X (the conditions). What is an overview of such conditional promises in the Bible?

The faith is life eternal that is the proof that God's truth is true.

So if you place your faith in God's love - our Lord Jesus Christ - then you will be taken out of the world you live in and placed in the Kingdom of God and have your life there with Him and in Him. That is the evidence that His word is true.

It is absolutely amazing what glory we meet on our way. For faith in God's love never disappoints us but brings us His good life right within.

So once my heart was ruled by the lies of this world and grew me into a selfish person who was deeply unhappy and often very fearful. Then the truth of Christ brought me faith in God's love and faith in God's love brought me a new life, and inner peace and rest and a fearless heart.

Now i'm not even talking about all the Heavenly gifts that descend from above on a daily basis. Love, kindness, peace, joy, thankfulness, humbleness, kindness, gentleness, self control, honesty, openness, caring and sharing are the gifts that Jesus sends me every day to help me in my struggle against sin and to grow in my new life.

And yes that is the greatest evidence that God's truth is true. Faith in His love grows us love, which casts out our fears and exposes the lies ruling our heart and mind, setting us free from the wicked controlling our lives through sin. With Jesus we can overcome our sin and find newness of life, that is the greatest evidence that God is true to His word.

So a new life is the evidence that God is true. If you do not find renewal from sin in your life time then you have to search after true God and true Jesus. You find Him in the Bible first of all and then in your heart when you have faith in the truth of His word.

Colossians 1:15-23
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

Here's one:

Galatians 6:7-8
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

I see the truth of this passage lived out in my own life and in the lives of those around me - saved and not - every day.

Scripture says that those whose lives are placed under God's control throughout each day (Romans 6:13-18; Romans 8:14; Romans 12:1; James 4:7, 10; 1 Peter 5:6) experience the transforming work of the Holy Spirit within them. The Spirit:

Convicts (John 16:8)
Strengthens (Ephesians 3:16)
Illuminates (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 2:10-15)
Transforms (Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 5:9; Philippians 2:13)

Here's another promise:

Proverbs 3:1-6
1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments,
2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.
3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

And this one:

Isaiah 26:3-4
3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
4 Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.

There are many more of these sorts of promises, of course. The Bible's filled with them.

Interesting topic truth...

First, ask anyone from any belief group whether or not they love truth and believe the truth and you will get an answer that yes, they, and those in their belief group, both love truth and have the truth with regards to their core beliefs. Atheists have the truth, Agnostics have the truth that you cannot know for sure one way or the other, Moslems, Mormon's, Roman Catholics, Baptists, Jehovah's Witnesses ... everyone knows they have the truth and love the truth. Every group that believes in a Gospel believes it is a simple gospel, they just all believe different "simple" gospels.

Even those who believe Jesus is their Lord, God and Savior at the end of Mat. 7, the "Many" who believe and who possess the same signs and wonders the true Christians of their day were also performing, are not really Christians at all, nor were they ever true Christians in spite of those things. It's not a lack of beliefs that is in question. It is a lack of believing the truth. The focus in Mat. 7 is not on what people believe they are doing for God, it's about whether or not they truly hear and understand, and live in accordance with what God truly does command. "Those that DO the will of My Father ..."

Premise: Everyone gets everything they need to either believe the truth or hold fast to what they want to believe "as" truth.

Mat. 7 covers the Christians, the "many" on the broad path who are headed for hell in spite of their beliefs in Christ. Rom. 10:1-3 covers the Jews who were zealous for God, and Romans 1:18-32 covers the non-religious lost.

Here's a good summary passage for how every person in the world can KNOW and have an UNQUESTIONABLE faith that their own core beliefs are "FACT" and be completely wrong...

2Th 2:10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12 in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness. 13 But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

Yes, verses 10-12 apply to those who will be deceived in the end times. Starting in verse 13 though, Paul says that those alive that he is writing to pass this exact same test and did receive faith in the truth. This same standard applies to non-religious lost like Atheists and Agnostic, Religious lost that does not believe in Jesus as their Lord God and Savior like the Jews in Rom. 10 or the Moslems, and also to all the people who believe Jesus is their Lord God and Savior in Mat. 7 but are lost as well. Every belief group on the planet gets from God exactly what they need to hold fast to everything they "want to believe" "as" truth. Don't trust me, look around. Pick any group.

People who want to hold fast to what they “want to believe” “as” truth:

1.) Gather whatever they can “use” to prove what they “want to believe” to be truth.

2.) Accumulate all evidence they believe proves all opposing views incorrect.

3.) Assume their beliefs are unquestionable truth, and interpret everything in such a way as to make it all support, or at least not negate, their beliefs. Think about it. If your beliefs are unquestionable truths, all “valid” data, must support … or at least not negate, your infallible beliefs, right?

4.) Reinterpret, ignore, discredit, invalidate … anything that doesn’t seem to fit with their views, Why? Our beliefs are “Fact”. Valid data interpreted correctly can’t contradict the facts.

5.) Gather all the other experiences, feelings, data … to solidify their beliefs such as signs, wonders, spiritual gifts or facts about your belief group. Things like: we have a burning in the bosom, we speak in tongues, we perform signs or wonders, a statue of Mary came to life and told us our belief groups views are correct, we have prayed to God for the truth and received “feelings” or even signs from heaven. Or, on a more concrete level: Our belief group is the oldest, largest, fastest growing, wealthiest, has the most experts with doctorates… Include anything that adds assurance that your views and belief group have the most truth.

These are the things we do "if" we just want to believe what we want to believe, and have reasons for discarding the rest. This process closes our eyes, ears and hearts to even considering anything else. This process allows all the people from every group believing themselves to be Christian to believe the gospel is simple, while believing completely different “simple” gospels.

Everyone using this Methodology can do only one thing with this Methodology above (#1-5) and that is prove their beliefs true and prove all opposing beliefs false. There is no other possible outcome. No one using that Methodology can ever do anything other than harden themselves into their current beliefs, closing their eyes and ears to even considering that anything "else" might be true. After all, if your core beliefs are fact, being open minded to altering any of them is being open to exchanging the absolute truths of your beliefs for lies, by very definition. No person from any belief group is willing to seriously consider exchanging truth for a lie. By definition their eyes and ears are closed to anything else.

Part of receiving a love of the truth is also understanding the truth of how people cement themselves into believing lies to be truth and truth to be lies. Confront anyone using the above Methodology to hold fast to their positions and they will immediately jump into their piles of selected data they know proves their beliefs true, proves everything else false, how to interpret everything correctly, their reason, explanations, interpretations that prove their views are the correct ones, and even their fruits of the spirit, gifts of the spirit, ... burning in the bosom, ... statues of Mary coming to life ...

Are there promises with regards to seeking truth, and not "proving what you want to believe to be truth"? Yes, all over, "Prove all things and hold fast to what is good." Present tense expanded meaning, "Keep on proving ALL things over and over again as a habit and way of life, like an ongoing court case that never ends where your only goal is to get to truth no matter how long it takes, and hold fast to what is good/true, NOT TO YOUR BELIEFS."

If we look at Mat. 7 a little closer, some of this appears there as well. First we have a command of Christ to judge ourselves according to the standard He is about to give, FIRST.

Mat 7:1 "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 "For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Understand this is a prelude to Jesus command for us to judge absolutely every single person we meet based on the standard He is about to reveal ... Ask yourself, how do you respond when people share what is Holy, i.e. their pearls, things they consider to be of eternal value?

For the sake of doing it, reread the Methodology Atheists, Agnostics, Moslems, Mormons, and almost all humanity uses to hold fast to their beliefs (#1-5 above.) When you share with them, what are they thinking about? First: Our beliefs are fact. Second: If you are objective and look at all the data we have gathered that we know proves our beliefs are "unquestionable truth" and all of the facts we know prove your opposing beliefs false and interpret everything correctly, you will alter your beliefs to fit our beliefs. Our beliefs "are" truth. No, we are not open to considering that our core positions might be false.

The topic in Mat 7 is those who believe they are Christians but are not. They are false prophets/preachers, they are the "many" who believe Jesus is their Lord, God and Savior, and who have the same gifts that the true Christians of the day had. But these people are lost and are headed for hell in spite of their beliefs and in spite of all the evidence they know proves they are right. Problems arise if you suggest that they are a part of the great masses who have missed the truth and that they might truly be lost and headed for hell. Shoot, they might even want to tear you to pieces, but they certainly are not going to give any serious consideration to altering their core beliefs.

As far as the truth goes on core beliefs, ANY disagreement at all on the core beliefs will get you silenced and/or removed from their belief groups. They all have to protect their flocks after all. No consideration will be given with regards to core beliefs. None. That is a belief group, and yes, they all have everything they need to hold fast to their beliefs and NONE OF THEM, in spite of Jesus claim that the vast majority of those who believe themselves to be right with God/Christ are still lost and headed for hell.

But do any of them see that they fall short of this?

Mat 7:6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

No, right? They all have unquestionable proof that their core views are fact. None of them ever falls short. Then Jesus completely changes the topic in Mat. 7, right?

Mat 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 "Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10 "Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

Interestingly, all of those are in the present tense indicating ongoing continuous, habitual action that never ever stops.

Mat 7:7 "Keep on continuously Asking, and never stop, and it will eventually be given to you; Keep on continuously seeking, and never stop, and you will eventually find; Keep on continuously knocking, and never stop, and it will eventually be opened to you. 8 "For everyone who keeps on continuously asking, and never stops, eventually receives, and he who keeps on continuously seeking and never stops, eventually finds, and to him who keeps on continuously knocking and never stops, it will eventually be opened.

Interestingly, there is another passage that uses almost the exact same words, with a minor difference:

Luk 11:9 "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. 11 "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? 12 "Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? 13 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

The thing is, every person from the belief groups out there has already found the truth. Seeking is no longer necessary other than seeking out more things to prove their beliefs true and all opposing views false. They asked and received. They knocked and had it opened. The problem is though that they stopped. The guarantees don't apply to them. They would get horribly angry if you suggested that they are a part of the lost at the end of Mat. 7, and they certainly are not open to altering any of their core beliefs about Jesus, the gospel, ...

But here's the thing. Every belief group out there who believes they are Christians agrees that open-mindedness to considering the truth of their beliefs is a prerequisite to saving faith. They also believe that anyone already in agreement with their core beliefs should be as closed minded as is possible.

From the context, this next verse ties in the response of the religious lost people who believe they -are Christians in verse 7, and those who will eventually get to truth in verses 7-11.

Mat 7:12 "In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for
this is the Law and the Prophets.

Sure you have all the evidence you need to hold fast to your beliefs. So does everyone else using that Methodology. But that's the problem. The target is not really truth. No one can ever get "from" their beliefs, "to" truth doing those things. All they can do is harden themselves into their beliefs. They know how they want others to respond to their gospel, i.e. with open-mindedness, seriously considering absolutely every piece of evidence that they present with a willingness to open their minds and hearts to the truth of what they present, but they are unwilling to do the same and respond like those in 7:7-11.

The "Many" on the broad path that leads to destruction is the same "many" who believe Jesus is their Lord God and Savior but are headed for destruction later on. The "Few" that are saved are on the path that is so narrow it literally means "to groan" it's so tight. The vast masses already know and have the truth regards to Christianity, and aren't really listening when people share. These same people speak forth all kinds of variations in gospels and beliefs and all of them "Know" they have the truth about God/Christ. There is no doubt.

The question is, what do you "do" if you are a true Christian according to the passage? What are the "fruits" that put you in one group or the other in this passage? Which group will, eventually get the Holy Spirit? Those who truly love truth will avoid the first Methodology above like the plague. Those who love truth keep on seeking, proving, knocking, examining the scriptures diligently daily, and always are willing to alter any, or all of their beliefs to fit truth. They have no interest in holding fast to any beliefs. Thus their Methodology differs. When it comes to getting biblical truth ... See part 2

Part 2 Biblical truth ...

If we want truth ...

1.) We Avoid “Methodology One” (Mentioned prior): The gathering of passages/facts to prove our beliefs true and all opposing beliefs false, interpreting everything in the light of the uncontestable beliefs, … Proving our beliefs true and holding fast to them, is not the same as, “Proving all things over and over again as a habit and way of life, and holding fast to what is good/true.” (Re-read everything prior for what to avoid.)

2.) We maintain a state of Open-mindedness: 1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. This is in the present tense indicating ongoing, continuous, habitual action that never ceases. In other words, “Keep on proving all things over and over again, like an ongoing court case whose only job is to get to the truth eventually … and always hold fast to what is good/true and not to your beliefs.” If you love truth, you remain open to altering any, or all of our beliefs in the light of the fullness of what the word of God has to say, when everything on the topic is “cut-straight without adding meaning that isn’t there, subtracting meaning that is, or distorting anything to try and make it fit what you want to believe. All belief groups believe in being open minded … “until” you accept their beliefs. Then they believe in being as closed as possible. If you love truth, this is you. If you love your beliefs, you will have closed eyes and ears to anything not fitting with your positions.

3.) We stay in a state of Habitual ongoing Labor/ Getting Every Piece of Data that Might Pertain: And, indeed, this is the first step if your goal is to get to truth. This is the, "Be a workman who need not be ashamed" part. It's also in the present tense: ongoing continuous, never ceasing labors to cut-straight ALL that God says on every topic. The first step is to gather every single piece of data that anyone thinks might pertain to the topic at hand from all sides of the issue. But it doesn’t stop there. Gather all the data that “might pertain” that no group gathers because that information can’t be used to prove their beliefs true or opposing beliefs false. Yes, you need every piece of data that all your opponent’s believe prove your current beliefs false, and every fact that might prove beliefs you currently view as wrong, to be the correct ones as well. We are commanded to be habitual, ongoing, never stopping laborers who are approved by God and won’t stand ashamed before Him. How do we assure the results of our judgment will be God’s approval? We habitually “Cut-straight” every single piece of the word of God that “might” apply to the topic at hand over and over again as often as is necessary. This is way different than looking for passages of scripture to prove true and proof of what we dislike to be wrong on a topic. Hint, I do internet searches on all sides of the issue digging up on line bible studies. I grab the first 20 on every side of the issue. Proof for each part of Calvinism for example or disproof of it as well, same with the Arminian side, proof and disproof. Then I search through the bible myself searching the bible on key words used in those passages to try and find other related issues/passages. If it is important enough, I will read the entire bible through looking for every possible passage that might pertain manually.

Fact: CONSISTENCY IN INTERPRETATION: If God, God’s word, and God’s people are not consistent in what they say and do and DON’T SAY AND DON’T DO, then looking for truth in the bible is a waste of time. Holding to consistency includes:

4.) Consistency with Background Context: Pick a meaning that fully aligns with the historical, legal, architectural, agricultural … context. Hard to understand what being “taken away” means in stories of vine dressers if you do not know and understand what vinedressers in the first century did (and still do) in Jerusalem.

5.) Consistency of Meaning of words/root words/figures of speech: Hold to a meaning for all words, root words, and figures of speech consistent with their usage throughout the Old and New Testament. We have a Greek Old and New Testament and a Hebrew Old Testament, pick a meaning fully fitting everywhere the same word, root word, and figure of speech is used. If in p the Septuagint and the N.T. Greek the word phobos is translated as fear, terror, ... and you choose that meaning in 542 of the 544 places it is used, but change the meaning to respect or honor in 2 places because you neither like, nor understand the meaning in the two remaining, then you have altered the word of God to fit what you want to believe, and you have altered the truth to fit what you want to believe.

6.) Consistency with the Surrounding Discussion: Hold to a meaning consistent with the entire discussion surrounding the verse or passage being considered, hold to the flow of thought, flow of arguments, meaning of points made … In 1Co 12, Paul spent an entire chapter telling us that spiritual gifts are assigned by God, distributed just as He wishes, that not everyone gets every gift, and that all gifts are equal and especially, that they are all equally necessary to the proper functioning of the Body of Christ. To then interpret a verse with this meaning, makes no sense: "Earnestly desire the greater gifts." We would have a contradiction. Paul just said, there are no greater or lesser gifts. Paul just said, desiring or not desiring a gift has no effect at all on what gift(s) we are assigned. The good news is that there is another possible interpretation of that verse that fits perfectly in the context. "But you are desiring the showier gifts.". This is one “possible” interpretation and it does not contradict everything that comes before, and after this verse. Indeed, this interpretation offers a smooth transition to everything that comes after in chapter 13. In chapter 12, Paul said people were forsaking the gifts God assigned them for what they saw as more impressive. They were "acting" like they had gifts they didn't have while forsaking what they were given. Thus, handicapping the body. Ephesians One, “In Him”, “In the Beloved”, “In Christ” … are all repeated many times with those “In Him”, “In the beloved” … being predestined to be, do, receive … many things. But the key is in the context of the discussion. You were sealed, “IN HIM” after an event occurred. “Eph 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,” This predates everything we are predestined for and is a requirement to qualify for the predestination. Membership requires hearing and believing. It is the group that is predestined. Nothing says we are predestined to be in the group in this passage.

7.) Consistency with conscience: Example: If your interpretation results in believing God does what would be sin if we did it, your interpretation is wrong. Example: There are no illustrations in the Bible where God says He commits adultery. If your chosen meaning for the word “adultery” makes God an adulterer by His own admission, you picked the wrong definition. Do a word study on that word in both the Greek and English Old Testament and the Hebrew Old Testament as well. Choose a meaning that does not make God a sinner violating His own will. Another example, if your belief makes God a punisher of people who have no choice and never had a choice, is it good to spank a two-month-old for dirtying a diaper? They have no choice, there is no other outcome possible. If God is holy and righteous and just should we not display His attributes, all of them?

8.) God, God’s People and God’s Word are 100% consistent: Pick an interpretation for all the data that makes God, God’s people and God’s word 100% consistent in “all” they say and do and “all” they don’t say and don’t do. Any inconsistencies, are proof of incorrect beliefs/definitions. Example: How many times does the bible say David committed adultery? Once. With Bathsheba ... wife number eight. David also took at least 10 wives after her, and many people believe it could be as high as 20 more. Yet, only one case of adultery. How many times does the bible say Solomon committed adultery? God did reprove Solomon for his wives, but it wasn't for the number of them. God took the child from David’s act of adultery. God says that David only sinned in the matter of Uriah the Hittite (Took his wife and had him killed.) He didn’t sin, according to God’s commandment by numbering the people. They were responsible for paying, not him. That’s according to God, anyway.

9.) Always apply logic, reason, and rational thinking: Pick an interpretation fully fitting with all logic, reason, and rational thinking. (Back to the spiritual gifts illustration. If the writer spent a whole chapter saying all gifts are equal and necessary, that none are greater than any others, … do not choose an interpretation for the very next verse that would command us to do the very thing that created the problem discussed earlier in the chapter. God spent the previous 30 verses saying “greater” gifts don’t exist, that you can’t get what you want, period, regardless of your desire. “Earnestly desire the greater gifts”, contradicts everything prior. Look for the “other” possible meaning. Note: There is one.

10.) Start with the Easiest/Clearest … data on the topic: Interpret the clearest, easiest understood, most straightforward data/passages first—then the more complex or difficult passages. Understand that making a doctrine out of things mentioned but once in the bible is dangerous ground. Essential truths are gone over and over again. The complex, convoluted, figurative, obscure … and difficult the passages like those rarely discussed in scripture, make distorting meaning to fit our beliefs an even greater likelihood. If there is very little on the topic, it very well could be you made the topic up out of whole cloth.

11.) It ALL fits together: Pick a meaning for the parts that fully fit with the whole of the data that might pertain to the topic at hand, without adding meaning, subtracting meaning, or distorting anything to force it to comply with your beliefs. If everything gathered (#3 above) does not fully fit with everything in #4-10 above, you have the wrong meaning, and you are forcing the scriptures to fit what you want to believe “as” truth. God, God’s word and God’s people are 100% consistent in all they say and do and don’t say and don’t do.

12.) Keep on continuously proving all things over and over again as a habit and way of life and never stop … and hold fast to what is good/true. Getting to truth is an ongoing process that never ends. One single verse, one fact you missed, one slight change in interpretation … can force a complete reevaluation and even a complete a change of beliefs. That is, if you love truth, and obey what God commands all His people to be continuously doing for and by themselves. If not …

13.) It’s all on You! Trusting others to get to truth “for” you, is like trusting others to have a relationship with your wife / husband / kids “for” you. It cannot be done. Your failure to keep on habitually doing as God commands all His people to keep on habitually doing, proves you have gathered enough using Methodology One to hold fast to what you want to believe and fall short of 2Th. 2:10-12

Everyone gets what they want.

Understand, “Agreement with me might only make us both wrong.”
