I thought that the vaccinated were not getting severe enough cases to require ICU...

Where did you read this? Can you cite your source?

I REALLY wish people would get their medical information from actual medical websites, package inserts or journals; not politicians, social media and the news.

The article didnt really explain but I am assuming that someone that comes in needing an ICU bed for something other than Covid, a vaccinated person would get priority. For example, a vaccinated heart attack victim might get priority over an unvaccinated stroke patient.

I know in my ICU we only have two pressure negative rooms. These are special rooms where the air pressure is kept below normal atmospheric pressure so that potentially contaminated air from an airborne disease, NOT just Covid, is kept in the room. So at present we can only handle two Covid positive patients.

Then you must have heard wrong (or been told wrong). The vaccine sharply *reduces* occurrence of severe disease and hospitalization, but does not stop all incidences.

From memory, last weekend or just before that, one Houston hospital (or was it all of Houston) had 28 COVID hospitalizations of which 21 were of immunocomprimized people. People with weak immune systems (such as transplant patients avoiding rejection) do not build as good defenses from innoculations. They are on the top list for "booster" shots.

"There is some evidence that vaccination may make illness less severe for those who are vaccinated and still get sick."
From COVID-19 Breakthrough Case Investigations and Reporting | CDC

"The three COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States—from Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and Johnson & Johnson—are doing exactly what they were meant to do: protect against severe illness and hospitalization. But with the more dangerous Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 spreading rapidly, the U.S. is seeing more COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough infections.

Nevertheless, the fact remains that getting vaccinated is effective in preventing people from getting severely ill or dying from the disease. Even as new COVID-19 variants appear, vaccines continue to hold their ground. But since no vaccine is perfect, it is expected that we will see some COVID-19 breakthrough infections."

Vaccinated people may not need the ICU for covid, but for car wrecks , heart attacks, other illnesses, etc...

Well, yes, after all, we don't want the vaccinated vehicle accident victims dying of Covid, like the unvaccinated vehicle accident victims! (Ok, sorry, couldn't resist...)

From the OP article,
"But if all things are equal between two patients suffering from Covid-19, the one who is vaccinated would be seen as more likely to survive, Casanova said, meaning they would receive care first."

I did not see any mention of being in ICU for other reasons.

Right, this will probably be incentive enough to get vaccinated.

It is good when those in charge get to choose who lives and dies. Almost like a death panel.

It's called triage. My first hospital visit was when i was 8-9 years old with a badly twisted ankle. As I was lying in the ER hallway, they brought in a motorcycle accident victim. Then they brought in his leg. Guess who waited for a bed.

I'm not convinced. Currently, it is much more likely that unvaccinated will die from covid. Will making it a bit more likely change people's minds in significant enough numbers to matter?

Haven't heard that but a woman told me her daughter, a nurse in Oklahoma, left to become a nursing home administrator after seeing the hospital would only resuscitate COVID patients twice. That could have been due to overcrowding, but generally a patient or family would have to approve a DNR.
