Just another covid thread, where everyone speaks from what they believe to be true about it.

People who believe in the official narratives prefer to promote the official measures, people who do not, don't.

I just happen to remember the promise that the measures would be only for two weeks to flatten the curve. A year and a half ago. Everything since then sounds like Palpatine promising to lay down his powers when the crisis is over, and then, the crisis never ends because it gives him those powers. Life imitating art imitating life.

Still, batten down the hatches for another fruitless round of comments by people who often seem to be unconscious of the first principles of the other side, and sometimes, of their own...

I notice it’s France. One thing I was curious about is vaccination rate by country. France’s acceptance rate is very low, along with Japan.

I’m mildly interested in national opinions and the psychology of it. But not much time to pursue. The Japanese lack of confidence surprised me, until I learned they gave a history of bad experiences with vaccines.

As for my country (the US) most opinions (pro and con) appear to be driven by various media - popular media, social media, etc.

There are other news sources, too.

I am more curious of why he became a hermit
Serbia’s Famous Cave Hermit Has a 400-Pound Boar For a Pet

like I said, I just found it interesting. More like just a blip

Especially since I was just thinking about wanting to live in a cave the other day lol
Though I’m married (don’t think my husband would appreciate that too much lol) and I would need to pay off my student loans first :asd:

Serbian ‘hermit’ who urged people to get vaccinated says he received gifts from fawning media… and 1 EXPIRED dose

“In a Serbian tabloid article from 2017, he claimed to have fathered six children by five women. He saidhis offspring do not come to his cave because they are “afraid of snakes and other animals.” However, the “hermit” said they visit him during the summer, when he relocates to his “summer house” – a structure he built in the center of the nearby town. “

I have a feeling this hermit may not be Orthodox Christian but I am not sure.

If you are able to read or translate from Serbian, here is an article about him. He seems more like a new age hippie than an Orthodox monk.

He might be Christian, maybe even Orthodox and he might live as a hermit. It is not likely, and the article doesn't even suggest, that he is a known, broadly revered Orthodox recluse ascetic, however. It's a different thing altogether.

Yeah upon further inspection he just seemed like an eccentric hermit. Which there is nothing wrong with! Just not the type of hermit I tend to think of when the word hermit comes to mind lol

Then there was the Cloud Minders on Star Trek where you had a retrograde bunch of numbskull miners living deep inside caves who breathed gas that was stunting their intellect, development, and progress making them desperate and violent. Kirk and company offer them masks that could help, but they see conspiracy and folly and ulterior motives in everything. Turns out the masks worked!:oldthumbsup:

I believe the rarest position of all is a balanced position.

I would love someday to go for a day without having COVID be a political discussion point. (There is a reason I primarily read news articles instead watching any channel.)

Speaking of politics, someone put together an awesome remix of our NSW state Premier which pretty well sums up how we feel about her at the moment.

Enjoy!

The essential problem is that covid IS political. Policies are enacted, they are good or bad, helpful or useless, and those policies affect people's lives. If my own opinion is right (and I think it is, or else it would not be my opinion), then the virus was launched very specifically for political reasons (and not by politicians per se), and even if you don't believe that, it is impossible, or rather, wholly irrational to deny that it is being used for political power. Any discussion of it that ignores politics is like talking about atomic explosions while avoiding the question of who has atomic weapons and might be motivated to use them. So one pretty much has to avoid covid discussions altogether if one finds disagreement disagreeable.
