I do not believe in ghosts of any kind. I remember CS Lewis arguing that the idea of ghosts is proof of the Fall:

"Our feeling about the dead is equally odd. It is idle to say that we dislike corpses because we are afraid of ghosts. You might say with equal truth that we fear ghosts because we dislike corpses—for the ghost owes much of its horror to the associated ideas of pallor, decay, coffins, shrouds, and worms. In reality we hate the division which makes possible the conception of either corpse or ghost. Because the thing ought not to be divided, each of the halves into which it falls by division is detestable. The explanations which Naturalism gives both of bodily shame and of our feeling about the dead are not satisfactory. It refers us to primitive taboos and superstitions—as if these themselves were not obviously results of the thing to be explained. But once accept the Christian doctrine that man was originally a unity and that the present division is unnatural, and all the phenomena fall into place."--from MIRACLES
Isn't that a science fiction writer? Not that it discounts the opinion, they ponder a lot. The same dude who said, reality is what exists now, and will not go away anytime soon. Just seems like a person trying to sound smart, without saying much, while using a lot of words. And I do not agree. We do not bury people because of any fear, we do it because it is religion and tradition, and by not doing so, it spread disease. And people did not want to watch predatory animals eat up their loved ones, or let them decay and be eaten by worms in plain sight

I will not have a poll option telling me that I live with demons upstairs. I might get fear then. Nuff tests for now, do not need that one. Next thing, I am chatting and chilling with a demon. That is not good. Dear lord, you scared me, I got some chills on my back now. And you are a buddhist, this is weird. Now I need some christians to get me some comforting verses.

I may have worded the familiar thing wrong. I meant family. My grandmother lived in the house, my uncle lived in the house. They really liked the house, might have been housebound in theory. And I have made it so that others cannot contact them. Nobody can go upstairs. And they are children of the lie, so does not matter. Atheists the whole bunch. And weak, so best not let them interact if you say it is demons.
You are describing a demon 100% it's called a familiar spirit and it's in the Bible.

Do you have some verses regarding this issue? I am not well versed in it. I just started reading it for some reason after moving into the house. A change came about in me for some reason. I did not normally read books in the past, concentration issues and stuff like that. No focus. ADD like issues, that is not ADD. Possibly going home to the house in a few days, what should I read before that? Weird that I could concentrate suddenly.

Should I put up some crosses and jesus pictures and stuff? Does that help?`I have a picture of jesus in the room outside the bathroom, and no issues there. I have a stored picture of christ upstairs in one of the rooms where the door flings open, and I often have to close, where there was some stomping around a month ago. Should I perhaps bring that down and put in the room I sleep in?

He was an atheist who later came to Christ. He wrote non-fiction also.

I see, he did overcomplicate a heart thing. If he stated this after being christian. You do not need big thoughts and intellect to find God, that is a lie, is for all., Intellect tend to cloud faith. Just feel. Think about it, would Jesus and God make it so complicated, that children and people with mental impairements could not seek God and find salvation? Of course not, it is for all. People just seek too many answers to justify belief, and many postpone it to live in sin for as long as possible,, before ordering the ticket to heaven.

I do not think so. just some noises from under some furniture, which I assume are mice. And some stuff falling over, which I assume are mice. May have been shadows, but assume that is just bad eyesight in the dark. The bulbs tend to blow an awful lot. I only have two left with lights now. When I replaced them all, and had 8-10 bulbs working, one blew each week. And the trapdoor to the cellar seems stuck often. I just assume it is swelling of the wood. I have to go down there and fill up the waterpump with air. And generally creeking of the wood. Some stomping upstairs one month ago or so.
How old is the house and have you had an electrician out anytime recently to make sure there isn't faulty or old wiring?

For the record I don't believe in ghosts but I too can be overcome at times by irrational fear.

If your house is on the older side I don't think it would hurt to have some professionals out to do an inspection and give a quote if anything might need fixing. Not that you'd need to actually get anything fixed but at least they could explain away some of your concerns.

The house is old, like 150 years. Was moved there from another property and put up again like a legohouse. My father is kind of an electrician. and have put up some of the electrical stuff. Connected to the farmhouse, and if some big machine at the farm gets jammed, the fuse blows in the house and must be changed. But that machine has not been run since early may.

Levitcus, Dueteronomy, Isaiah, 2 Chronicles & others mention familiar spirits. Saul talks to one in 1 Samuel and it doesn't end well for him. The common theme in the Bible is to have nothing to do with them.

As for what to do about it, I'm limited as to what I can say here. This is what I suggest. 1st break any agreement you have with it. Get some oil and anoint your doorposts and anything else connected to the spirits (tiny amounts are fine). Play worship music and/or audio scripture 24/7... I have a small CD player I put on repeat at a volume you can't/barely can hear. And most importantly pray and ask God for guidance.

Gotcha. I definitely think having some people out to check for electrical and maybe wood/foundation problems will take a big weight off your mind about all this.

It was just so shocking when I thought a buddhist stated that it was demons, since I used to be a buddhist and did not relate it to buddhism at all. First of all it did not fit with reincarnation and eternal struggle to reach nirvana.

The story of Saul inquiring supposedly a dead prophet illustrates a problem with dealing with fallen angels. God considers it as like the act of rebellion. 1Sam. 28

Yes and notice how God summarize the 1 Sam 28 event --

1 Chronicles 10:13
So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

================= no wonder God absolutely condemns it

  1. Leviticus 20:27
A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
  2. 1 Samuel 28:7
Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.
  3. 1 Samuel 28:8
And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.
  4. 1 Chronicles 10:13
    So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

  1. 2 Chronicles 33:6
And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

  2. Isaiah 29:4
And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

Typically contact with demons does not improve the ability to concentrate.

As for some Bible texts click here -

Why do you associate improved ability to concentrate improvement - with ghosts/demons?

Focus on reading good christian material - for example here is a free online world-class commentary on the Life of Christ - 87 chapter of great easy reading material. - The Desire of Ages

I do not have any verbal agreement. I just do not go up there after dark. And I seem to be left alone downstairs. *I do not try to communicate. I do play a lot of gospel music lately. Oil, ok, that is good advice

Years ago, in a different internet forum, someone posted that his toilet was flushing by itself. It seemed like he truly believed it was possessed. He was asking about finding an exorcist. It floored me that someone couldn’t tell a leaking flapper valve from some imagined supernatural phenomenon. I replied that he needed a plumber—not an exorcist.
