Start with a meal. Spend an hour in prayer instead. You can build up to longer periods. Download the Daily Prayer app. Pray it out loud. You'll absorb lots of scripture. That's what they use.

The Liturgy of Hours is the primary reason I know the bible well. I'd do two offices per day. Morning and evening or morning and night. When fasting I did all three. I saturated my spirit in the word. When I went to bed I put on the bible and let it play while I slept. Sometimes I'd wake to the same passages.

And I talked to God frequently. Not in prayer. Just out loud. Like we're having a conversation. I knew when He wanted my attention. If I received a word I wrote it down to verify it was Him. That sharpened my discernment.

Now we're on a different plane. He gave me something recently that I shared. I call it a stream-of-consciousness. He answered the question with a visual download. It was like watching a movie. I could see it clearly in my mind. What He provided was the formula for its unfolding. Much like He did with my business.

If you want to hear from Him you've gotta be plugged in and stay there. Don't move.

I have a interesting story about fasting. Prior to the Gulf war in 1990 I was paid a visit by a Angel of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is what happened. As I was sleeping at night in my bed at home a Angel of the Lord awakened me in the middle of the night. He Hovered over my bedrooms roof. He Spoke to me out of the sound of a trumpet. Out of the sound of the Trumpet I understood what the Angel said in English. Although it wasn't audible as in human sound it was spoken in spiritual language and I understood perfectly. The Angel said "Jesus Christ is God and He came to the earth in the flesh, FAST". That was all the Angel said and I haven't herd from him since. The Sound of the Angels Trumpet the tone of a middle C on a piano but the sound of the trumpet.

I cant say that I'm Good at Fasting but I made it 5 days once with hiking to the top of the sierras to attempt to please God and do his will. I have Fasted A lot. FYI, after this encounter is when my baptism by Fire began. Some Through the water, Some through the flood, I've been walking through the fire, but all through the blood! Stung!!!

I did 36 hours yesterday.

Kinda freaked out at the 36 hour mark and tried to sip some grape juice, because my stomach felt really uncomfortable. I don't think I got much out of it (the fast), though. I re-started today, and think I will keep pushing to create a routine.

The church fathers preached a lot about fasting to subdue the flesh, but it is also supposed to aid in deliverance, which is what I want.

Trying to have my heart in the right place for it, though, because I keep thinking about the vanity aspect (weight loss).

I have never tried fasting. If I don't get fed I am ready for a Snickers commercial.

The only time I have tried anything that comes close to fasting is when I have been broke by the end of the month and had to skip a few meals.

What do you get out of fasting?
You don't always have to fast food, a good example is the fast in Isaiah 58 which has more to do with being merciful instead of a jerk.

Other than "getting a faster answer," fasting helps open up more space inside the heart for God to indwell.

in 2019, I went down to two meals per days
since there were hours between meals, found out that it was considered intermittent fasting

did the two meals for about a year

used to be a stress eater
during that year, I not only lost weight but it cured me of stress eating

truly amazed the urge to stress eat is completely gone!

I believe eating under stress is the prime mover of obesity and type-2 diabetes in America today.

We must learn to pray and fast we we are under stress. For a lot of people that means getting out of the habit of eating or drinking calories on the job.

This is what I am after, the spiritual benifits. My life is a bit of a mess right now, so I was thinking if I could use fast as a way of getting my prayers heard. I'm down in the dirt. I'm tired, I'm exhausted, so I don't know if it's the best time to try something like this when I have so little to pull through with as it is. I can't rememeber a time in my life when my back was this hard up gainst the wall.

It sounds like you need inspiration regarding fasting. Get the book, "Miracle of Fasting" by Paul C. Bragg. It was written to help people with the same problems that you have.

36 Hours I think that's alot. I have no idea how Moses and Jesus went thorugh 40 days.

Thanks for the info.
I eat breakfast in the morning and dinner later. The rest of the time I rely on protein shakes.

When I was younger I used to drink 2 liters of coke each day. Now I don't drink any kinda of Soda pop.
I do enjoy the fizzy feeling on my tongue, so I change the Coke out with club soda.

Thanks for the book recommendation.

I lost a lot of weight while fasting. It helps with health as well. Brings one closer to God

It's the closer to God part That I think is interesting, but the fat loss is cool too.

What do you get out of fasting?
I do not fast at the moment. but did it for various reasons for about 20 years, depending on definition and manner of the fast. When I did weight training, I did cleansing on sundays. A diet thing.Part detox, part to keep appetite up so I could bulk up. . Not a spiritual thing. Did liquids in form of proteinshakes. Shedded fat because I wanted to have 6 pack

Later on I did it for years. And I do not recommend that. I was a nightowl, so it was dark many hours of my day, so I got a few meals. And as you know as a dane, it gets dark pretty early in the north at winter, like at 5. You should go to a doctor first, and do a bloodtest to see your levels on all sorts of vitamins, minerals, etc before you do a fast. And perhaps such a test may reveal that you lack some vitamin or mineral, and you need to get prescribed some of that to make the levels right. Or it could be an inflamation you are not awere of, or low levels of testosterone or something else. I used to get it tested 4 times a year, and got a paper with 20-30 levels checked. I found out I had too low levels of magnesium and iron, and that made me tired. The doctor prescribed me some mineralpills and it was in order in 1 month. Apparantly this also made my testosteronelevels suffer, so training suffered that time.

If done properly a glimpse of true health that few ever experience.

At what point would you say you start to enter into the health part? After a 10 day fast? 20 day? 40 day? Multiple 40 day fasts?

This could be a little dangerous. I think that you are essentially right, but the point is that fasting changes your mindset. It doesn't change God.

We have to be careful about treating our walk with God magically. We can't think that certain actions will reliably lead to certain results. That is the sorceror's way. God transcends all that.

The sorceror only exists as the antitype of the prophet.

Jesus said if you ask anything in my Name..

If your theology steamrolls over that then you may need to rethink your theology.

Many people have drugs, medicines, and other toxins buried deep in their tissues which can only come out by fasting. It is when these poisons are eliminated that true health can be experienced.

Fasting is part of an overall healthy lifestyle regimen. It's the 'frosting on the cake' if done properly. I recommend "The Miracle of Fasting" by Paul C. Bragg to learn more about it. A very inspirational work.

I've fasted for 24 hours. No food or drink. Scriptures say to fast if you want to draw closer to God. It certainly humbles me and I can smell all foods from a further distance after many hours into the fast.
I've been able to feel a weakened state and to know that without blessings from God above I would perish rather quickly.
For me, blessings of a fast are Spiritual and not physical. It isn't until days or weeks later that I look back
and sense a closeness to God that I was lacking. It's like experiencing something with a friend that bonds the two of you. Not exactly like this, but similar. Hard to explain.
My last fast was in June of 2020 and I know I have grown spiritually since. But to be asked soon afterwards, I wouldn't have thought so. I've been contemplating another, but I struggle implementing one.

Fasting draws me closer to God and teaches endurance. I was going normally Thursdays for awhile for ten to twelve hours after my kids were done being born and nursed finally, and I really have been drawing closer to God and serious in His Word throughout dying to my flesh. With my work hours increasing, I'll have to acclimate my body more so then I can try something longer. But working with preschoolers, I want to be careful not to get light headed or anything. Cuz right now I've broke a couple fast days fast. :D

I believe this is one reason to fast. What you describe is quickly revealed.

Edit: Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Carnal man tries to understand what this means. I'm still not sure after many years.
