Did the AG "vote out" speaking in tongues?

"People don't want to be different unless they have to," is apparently a quote from one California Assemblies of God preacher. They've "quieted" the operation of the spiritual gifts in their services to appease mainstream Christianity and in hopes to attract larger crowds.

Anyone else hear this?

That is interesting, not in the UK as far as I know. It won't work and will no doubt have a detrimental effect on the services. Will the Lord honour their efforts? Will the Holy Spirit be present in the worship? I would think 'don't quench the Holy Spirit'.

Good questions for an impressionable people such as we sometimes are.

There was one article I read somewhere online that spoke of a California AG pastor that said he encouraged his congregation to be careful about speaking in tongues too much (or words to that effect).

I read another article once that said that "tongues" were a "fad" and "vogue" inside the church today, and therefore people do not have the genuine Spirit of God, but instead a taught "prayer language".
