I listen to whatever I can get my hands on. Is anyone up for an album listening group? I'm thinking of listening to material from the secular world mostly - we can sit with the album for a while and compare notes.Alternatively we can do a music exchange with a weekly theme, i.e. we could share an album which deals with loss or jealousy.

I would just make threads discussing specific albums, but a lot of secular music just isn't appropriate to broadcast over these forums.

As I said I do listen to more or less anything, so genre isn't especially important. I would say however that I lean towards left-field stuff. Hate me if you must, but 'thinking-mans music'. That still includes broad swathes of popiular and 'art' music.

I am totally open to anyone who is into folk, jazz, world music or whatever. Jazz is the epicentre for me anyway!

It also might be interesting to think about quality Christian music too. There are some very interesting artists out there who typically fly beyond the radar of most Christians. Faithful Christians making devotional music on the sly.

OK, I am here. You have not suggested an album yet, but stated something about genre. I just share the 2 gospel albums I currently listen a lot to. Erica Campbell help. Cece Winans - Believe for it. They are a bit preachy, but I kind of like that some verses are read in between songs. Amazing music, and what lungs on them.

Well, then I just start a theme or two. Erica Campbell - Eddie. Very nice song about thanking her dad for bringing her and her sister up with solid christian foundation and good values. Must be nice to have good familyvalues, that are carried on and share faith. Or we could do the beats, arangements, the musical stuff. I really like the drums/beats in POG, it is just an amazing arrangement.

Otherwise we could do the godmother of gospel, Cece. I think the album came out this year too, so kind of new and hip if it sells well. Surefire winner of the christian grammy. I started with Believe for it, which is so powerful. Lately I have listened more to fire, and again, I suspect it is because of the drums. But you have a lot of instruments, so it is arranged to perfection, just like an oldschool motown production. Here you have some spoken words from the bible in it, and kind of answering the spoken words with a powerful songs. Kind of cool touch. I like when they speak to eachother in duets, and this is sort of the same, only a monologue. Believe for it, is amazing vocals.

Could do some secular stuff, I like something from all categories. A bit hard to avoid PG there, and get clean songs. Leela James doing Etta James songs, is a great album. Marwin gaye and tammy terrels duet album is of course great. Could do some country, wagoneers, Monte Warden, Mary chapin Carpenters. Or Heather Nova, if you want to hear the most angelic voice. Was never really big, but did a wonderful album called wonderlust, no bad songs really. Check out give you my heart, give you my shoulder. Fantastic vocals on the livetrack. Theese are some of the albums I have downloaded on my phone currently. Go people

Thanks!!! I was going to suggest Everlasting Love. This is her most acclaimed album. I'll give the album a listen and report back though :)

I assume you are talking about Tammy and Marvin. A lot of people covered that. Not on the album I have downloaded though, which is weird since the song is so great. I have the duets album, sort of a best of, if not all. Could it be a duet with another girl? Kim Weston? Or am I missing the artist here? Which album? I need to download it for a listen. If it was an album thing. Otherwise one could do a version of a smashit that like 20 people covered, like everlasting love. I think my favourite is Rachel Sweet and Rex something. A bit cheesy, what you would call a guilty pleasure, but I love it. Rachel Sweet was viewed as kind of corny, but 5 of her songs are like at the top of my list. Darn it, I hear sheepbells, now I got sheep eating up the flowers again, I think. Must check, be right back

Ps. darn is clean swearing, right? Allowed?

Want to do several threads on music, regarding various genre and focus? I might go offline some days, and could set some up if interesting. Had several different ones with different people going. was kind of fun. Too much biblestudy, so need to do someting light while listening to music and watching sports. So talking music seems right. Need some leisure, not serious now. What is your main genre in music, or a few, and I seee if I got something in that lane. Could do something with movies or books if you want that. But not really much on books, have not read many, and none christian ones. The bible is the first one I attempt. I do not finish books. Need you to narrow it down to what is a common interest.

I am midlife, tend to listen to sweet lovesongs, mostly soul. mostly motown, gordy and stax. Also like the phillysound. I like music from Canada and Australia the most, if we talk national level of musicians going international hits. Very into old one hit wonders. And then you got they joyful and puppylove songs from the 60s. Much hippiemusic from the 70s, but do not know if that is wanted here. Much into raggae or islandmusic if you will. Could do world music, with indigenousmusic, some good stuff there, especially aboriginal ones, and you got buffy saint marie of course in canada.

I do country, but it seems to generally not be the ones you sends to the top of the lists in the US.

Ah no, Cece Winans. I did consider doing secular music, but I'd rather stick to Christian music if it's on the open forums. Music can be a big stumbling block for many. I think it's definitely worth seeking out music that is Christ-focused with high craftsmanship. The two are , in my opinion, one. Look at the tabernacle and the Israelites' religious ceremonies. There wasn't a discontinuity between the art and the worship.

I have a thread about Luys I luso actually. It makes sense to start there. I've been meaning to review it anyway. It left me with something indelible.

Sure, I checked, Marvin never did that one, such a shame. So, this is christian music, never knew she did a christian version, interesting. Religion is new for me, so do not know much about christian music craftmanship, and superproducers yet. Just liked gospel forever. And Cece was a favourite for me in secular music when I was younger, she was a member of eternal. I loved the one she did with her husband, I wanna be the only one in 1998 I think, maybe 1996. I am old.

I love the tabernacle choir, I know nothing of the religious thing. Or the other one. I am clueless about the luys stuff too, never heard of it. I am into some contemporary music, but mostly into the old stuff. And regarding gospelsongs, mostly old ones apart from theese new ones. I like Aaron nevilles stuff. Which is really closest to my heart musically, that New orleans stuff.Joel el sonnier, Willy deville, allain toussaint, stuff like that. And like the mavericks if you want to incorporate mexicana with americana and country. If you ever want to go secular on a thread. Positive music.

Hey!!!! Sent you an invite to join the secular discussion. We can save this to discuss family-friendly stuff though!

Well, alright - This track is so ripe. Love how it thumps. The vocals are way out front - it's great how they fill the stereo field and expand outwards throughout the track. The arrangement is a little tame, but the groove is irresistible.

Life - Oh my, those harmonies, both the choir and the underlying chord scheme. The cadence at the end leading to the chorus is too rich - and then it gets richer later on. It's all so luxuriant. Continuity is great too, forces and timbres are more or less the same as the first track - but that doesn't detract at all.

I'll post up more when I get a chance!

I am back, make a thread where I listen through my old CDs and play a quiz with myself. Want to join, while I read messages and reply some? And suggest othersd to join. Want to make it private perhaps. You and your friends, might be PG songs

You didn't list the type of Jazz you are into...
Try these.
One is contemporary, and the 2nd is traditional.

My tsstes are all over the place jazz-wise. I love it all. At the top of my list is Coltrane however. A Love Supreme to be precise.
