The central issue surrounding the Seal of God/Mark of the Beast is
worship. Several chapters of Revelation cover this topic of
worship.
The Mark of the Beast - Worship of the Beast; False Worship
Revelation 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon [Satan] which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him [the first beast/beast that rises out of the sea; ultimately Satan], whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Revelation 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
Revelation 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
Revelation 14:9-11 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Revelation 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
What is this false worship and who is it that causes it? Daniel 7 has some key information.
Daniel 7:25 And
he shall speak great words against the most High,
and shall wear out the saints of the most High,
and think to change times and laws [of God]: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Who?
- Speaks great words against the most High.
- Shall wear out the saints of the most High.
- Will think to change God's times and laws.
- The saints are given into his hand for 1260 years.
False worship?
- The changing of God's times and laws, which causes false worship. What times and laws were changed?
- The worship of a figurehead, of man, as a go-between to God. Jesus alone is our mediator.
- Worship based on the tradition of men and not the law of God.
The Seal of God - Worship of God; True Worship
What is true worship?
Revelation 14:6-7 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
This is a very important message. The angel uses a loud voice. One final warning. But what about worship? How do we know how to worship Him? The above passage points directly back to creation and the first worship day.
Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Sanctification: set apart as or declare holy; consecrate.
God sanctified the seventh day as a day of rest. God's holy day of worship. No other day was sanctified or set apart, declared holy.
The angel's message in a loud voice is pointing to the same language in Genesis 2, which declares God as creator and the heavens and the earth (and the sea and the fountains of waters) as His territory. This statement is one of authority.
But what of the seal?
Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.
Ezekiel 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.
Ezekiel 20:20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God.
Hallow: honor as holy.
Conclusion
At creation, God set apart a day of worship, to be kept holy. We are grafted into Israel; we are a part of the generations of Israel that He spoke of. The Sabbaths spoken of are worship days. We know this because of the sanctification and the holiness, but also because of the Sabbath being a sign between us and God. There is no other day, no other holy worship that spans the entirety of the Bible than the Sabbath.
Thus, the Sabbath being the sign of God is also the seal of God; of true worship, as He sanctified at creation for us to follow.
If this is indeed true, we should see times and laws be a central issue that causes false worship against God's sanctified holy day, the seventh day Sabbath. History shows that this has indeed been the case for some time and continues to be a point of contention in the world today. The Sabbath issue is coming to a head (albeit a false sabbath) and we can see the early signs of it in the news.
The loud voice of the angel is the final call, to recognize God's holy day. In observing the Sabbath, we acknowledge the sign, thus we receive the seal of God at the appropriate time, as per Revelation.
Times and laws (plural). We are to obey the laws of God. No other gods (men, Satan), no graven images/idolatry, remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, etc.
