Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The readings for today are taken from the optional Memorial of St. Peter Chrysologus, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. For more on this great Preacher see St. Peter Chrysologus

The words of St. Paul today, in his letter to the Ephesians speak to us of our own need for humility, but also realize that God has given all of us gifts of Supernatural Faith, Hope and above all Charity to bear fruit in our own time and place in this world.

The Gospel gives us Jesus’ powerful Truth. I’ve only included excerpts from the Responsorial psalm in order not to make this post too long, but I pray we all may Listen with the ears of our Hearts to all God want us to hear, that we make hear and speak and do the truth we hear from God today and every day.

Reading 1 - (Eph 3:8-12)

To me, the very least of all the holy ones, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the inscrutable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for all what is the plan of the mystery hidden from ages past in God who created all things, so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the Church to the principalities and authorities in the heavens. This was according to the eternal purpose that He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness of speech and confidence of access through faith in Him.

Responsorial - (Ps 119) “Lord, teach me Your statutes”…With all my heart I seek You; let me not stray from Your commands… Within my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you…Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes…With my lips I declare all the ordinances of You mouth…

Alleluia verse - (Jn 15:5) "I am the vine, you are the branches, says the Lord: whoever remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit."

Gospel - (Luke 6: 43-45)

Jesus said to His disciples: "A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thornbushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles. A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks."

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful. Jesus we trust in You. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us, your children in need of Grace from God. Pray that we may stand with you in spirit at the foot of His Cross on this Friday. Share with us your Faith and Your Love as you are with Him in heaven. Amen.
