Did you realize, when you read this passage from 2 Timothy 3:1, that this is a description of those who CALL THEMSELVES Christians??? As Christians, we are called to SEPARATE from these FAKE CHRISTIANS. We should have nothing to do with them.

2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

I agree. Romans 1 is similar to this also:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

I would suggest that this is more speaking of opposers of the gospel (and some Christians), as the bible says:

Tit 3:9-10 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

I have a friend, who rejects the gospel, yet he is very "righteous", he has many causes.

Christians that would fall into the category, would be the type who use grace as an excuse to sin.

Jude 1:4 For there are certain men crept in privily, even they who were of old written of beforehand unto this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Yet we must be careful not to judge our brothers and sisters too harshly.

1Co 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

Jud 1:22-23 And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

To me, the passage applies to EVERYONE who does those wicked things....including Christians... I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression that this is ONLY Christians...I mean that it INCLUDES Christians.... Kind of like, "If the shoe fits, wear it." If Christians are doing the things that this passage warns against, than we should TURN AWAY from them and have NOTHING to do with them. And it should go without saying that we shouldn't be hanging out with people in the world who are doing these things, either :).

As far as JUDGING goes, I believe we are CALLED to do RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT. "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." John 7:24.

How close are we to the very last days? There is mass blindness going on today, mass falsehood, and deceiving people on a grand scale. Blindness is extreme, 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12.

2 Timothy 3:5, Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." The power this scripture relates to is the Holy Spirit, and Galatians 3:5, gives us a good picture of what Power Paul is talking about, and how the Spirit operates in Christians.

If any man does not posses the Spirit of Christ, they are none of His, Romans 8:9. The Spirit witnesses that we are sons of God, Romans 8:16.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 also relates to Micah's lasts days prophecy, Micah 7:2-6

Fair enough Narrow Way. But keep this in mind though it is talking about those who live this way as a continual non repentive pattern. Not excusing sin here it's always wrong however scripture does say if we confess our sins he's faithful and just forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 Jn 1:9

Is it possible for a Christian to at any one time be selfish (lover of themselves) Of course. Any one time is its possible they can yield to pride and you can list all the other sins in your text too.....YES it's possible. Does God say we should have NOTHING to do with them? No not really. We all know the difference between somebody who got overcome with a temptation and their heart wasn't truly in it and they DON'T WANT that sin to be their continual pattern in life.

For those who could fall and who hasn't of us when you look at the list.....a lover of pleasure can be committed for even missing one day in prayer.....is that person done? Of course not. We're to work with and be with all who yield to something and help strengthen them out of it. So it's really a matter of measures and degrees.....is it a daily unrepentant pattern where they're not even trying to overcome? That defines whether one should have nothing to do with them.

And again I hope you're meaning those who do these things as some type of continual pattern. You do know right a good Christians can fall into a sin in a moment of weakness? No I'm not trying to provide license for a person to sin but something could happen in a moment of time where someone fails. You'd actually be wrong in not wanting nothing to do with them.

Is this about me?

(sorry it's late and I'm in a goofy mood)

I know, LOL. Sometimes I look at those lists when in certain moods and think "I'm TOAST!" Then eventually I remember that "where sin abounded, grace did much more abound!" God knows how to drive us back to the finished work of Christ.

Yes Bobber, I agree with your post...I believe the Bible is referring to people who are LIVING in this sin, daily...not a person who trips and falls. :)
