Hi all,

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong section.

I'll get straight to the point - I'm looking at becoming baptised and make peace with God. Why? I'm extremely concerned with where the world is heading due to these lockdowns. It's become so obvious to me there is an agenda here and I simply won't submit to this 'new world order.' It might be insane, or irrational, but I'm prepared to lose everything to fight this.

I don't want to become a martyr, but I don't think I have a choice. Something in my unconscious is telling me to not go along with this.

If anybody can recommend any orthodox priests to discuss baptism, it would be appreciated. I live in north Wales, UK.

Thanks for reading,

Lee.

If you're looking to make peace with God you've come to the right place. I'm not familiar enough with North Wales to be able to find a Church near you, but here is the website of a Greek Orthodox Church in Cardiff. They will likely be able to help you find a Church near you.

Try Fr James Siemens in Cardiff Log into Facebook

It is a small Parish and I know the priest personally - if you contact him you may mention my name saying I was in Edinburgh with him.

Hello, Lee, and welcome to TAW (The Ancient Way).

Your CF profile says your in Manchester, UK? If so you have many Orthodox churches to choose from.

St. Aidan's Orthodox Church - St. Aidan's Orthodox Church – Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of the British Isles and Ireland
St. Nicholas' Orthodox Church - https://brocmanchester.wordpress.com/
The Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation - Home
A Russian Orthodox Church (no name is given on Google; though there is an address) - Ставропигиальный приход храма Покрова Пресвятой Богородицы, г.Манчестер - Stavropegic Parish of the Protecting Veil (Pokrov) of the Mother of God, Manchester

There are all the websites as well. I hope that is helpful.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. I have contacted one of the priests from one of the churches mentioned (I won't say which one) in which I expressed concern for where things are headed, which was 7-8 months ago. I was told I was wrong and my attitude was un-Christian.

I replied stating I hoped I was entirely wrong and he was right. Seems, regrettably I was right.

Where should the church stand on all of this? I believe this is now medical tyranny, but who is going to stand up against this? It seems all of our institutions in this country are paper tigers and there is no push back at all. Everybody and everything has gone along with this.

One last thing - history hasn't ended. All the genocides and horrors of the past will continue. Never think we are too civilised to murder each other; never think the government is too civilised to murder us. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but history teaches me the reality of it all.

Thanks for reading,

Lee.

remember as well that we as Orthodox profess a Kingdom that goes beyond the issues of the current day. the stuff we are going through now isn't unheard of as far as unrest goes.

Views range widely on these matters within the Church. I cannot speak for them all, in my experience ROCOR tends toward more conservative, but even they took some measures during all this (closing parishes, limiting numbers etc).

I'd just go along to some services rather than hitting the priest right off the bat with all your views on this matter. You will see the extent to which the individual parishes and jurisdictions are 'going along with it' and you can make your mind up from there.

If you're able to get to Chester (Handbridge to be specific), the Church of St Barbara is very accomodating. The services are primarily in English and a large portion of the congregation are converts.

Hi Dewi,

Do you attend this church? I live about 25-30 mins away.

The only other church is south of Shrewsbury, which is 45 mins? I'm thinking of attending St Barbaras tomorrow morning you see.

I’ve got friends from Cardiff and they went to Ss Theodore and Teilo Orthodox Church. They described it as convert friendly. They said the Greek Orthodox Church, St. Nicholas, is very insular in that they’ll question why you’re there if you’re not a Cypriot. The Romanian parish seems to be the same way.

I’d say your best bet is contacting Fr. James from Ss T&T. They used to be a Uniate (eastern Catholic) parish, but converted to Orthodoxy fairly recently.

Hi

I have been a couple of times (my local parish was Liverpool, but now I've moved back to Lancashire).
Liverpool is heavily Greek culturally so St Barbara's was a lot more welcoming as an Anglophone.

Shrewsbury is nice, I was chrismated there and Fr Stephen is a wonderful priest (another convert priest); his deacon went on to be the parish priest in Lampeter, Ceredigion (Three Holy Hierarchs).

Fr Pancratios of Chester is like the grandaddy of English speaking Greek Orthodox churches in the North West and Wales.
His deacons (now priests) include Fr Stephen of Shrewsbury, whose deacons include Fr Christodulos of Leyland (Holy Apostles), and Fr Timothy of Lampeter.

Another excellent priest is Fr Luke in Llanelli, but I realise that is literally the other end of Wales, but worth remembering if you're in the area.
