All it would take in some races would be a few thousands deaths, and they'ld lose elections and be a permanent minority party.

It's not the deaths themselves so much as every single person connected to them. Not to mention all of those people who get needlessly ill.

From my observations, people are all talk until one of their loved ones are involved.

Same with how Republicans began to act when they starting having gay kids, friends and neighbors.

you want me and others like me gone?? Come move us. Its that simple, we arent gonna leave on our own, so if you want us gone, you’ll have to do it yourselves.

Cool your jets -- if the big bad government didn't give you the business when things were at their worst, then clearly you're no threat to them or anyone else.

We'll recover from COVID -- either with you or in spite of you.

This is an interesting article from David Frum. He was GWB speech writer and lifelong republican (unfortunately current GOP wouldn’t consider him republican or conservative).

Vaccinated America Has Had Enough

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...d-america-breaking-point-anti-vaxxers/619539/

Here is an interesting paragraph from his article

Does Biden’s America have a breaking point? Biden’s America produces 70 percent of the country’s wealth—and then sees that wealth transferred to support Trump’s America. Which is fine; that’s what citizens of one nation do for one another. Something else they do for one another: take rational health-care precautions during a pandemic. That reciprocal part of the bargain is not being upheld.

Social responsibility = communism?

No wonder America is in such bad shape now days. With "patriots" like this, we don't need enemies.

What could be more American than "every man for himself"?

Not that I would approve anything so low, but wouldn't it be a hoot if President Biden took a page out of Donald's playbook, and withheld federal funds from states that didn't meet a vaccination quota?

Or better still, made federal funding directly proportional to vaccination rates? "Let's see... Your state is 43.2% vaccinated; here's 43.2% of your money..."

At the very least we should think about taking a playbook from those that are on the right and antivax, who also hate universal healthcare, why should we pay for them not making sure they are healthy. If people don't want to pay for people getting obese, how much worse is spreading a plague and not being vaccinated?

we wold never do it, but definitely serve them right.

Let's be realistic. The death rate during the whole epidemic has been about 1% of people infected. At this stage it's less. Spread out over months that's not enough to bring down the party.
The United States is currently at 1.8% of the people infected. It was over 2% but since vaccines were introduced that number is falling. 34,443,761 people infected, 610,891 deaths.

We have 186 deaths per 100K population. Where a country like S. Korea has 4.

I guess we could live in Peru. They have a 9.3% death rate and 600 deaths per 100K. Give the red states time.

I had thought of a similar measure... however, there's a wide gap even within states themselves between counties, so the logistics could be tricky with regards to making sure you don't disproportionately ding counties that are doing their part due to people 2 counties away not doing the right thing.

For instance, the county I live in, in Ohio, has pretty good vaccination numbers. (even being a largely "red" county)

3 counties away (which is only about a 45 minute drive away)

Not so much...

i dont care who said the vaccine is safe, im not taking it.

Then those of us who understand science and actually are doing our part to protect our country should be able to shun you: bar you from restaurants, stores, schools, museums, sporting events. You should still be able to go to parks, though, since they are outdoors and rarely crowded.

Well, if we were going to do this, I'd go with the state average -- that'll give the states incentive to deal with counties that aren't pulling their weight.

When it comes to the percentage option, I'd set the cutoff at the desired 70% vaccinated -- I'd even cut states a break and say that number can apply to only those residents who have only had their first shot.

But again, I can't in good conscience actually condone President Biden engaging in such Donaldesque behavior...

Arkansas governor blames 'myths' for 'hardened' vaccine resistance
"I go into these town hall meetings, someone said: Don't call it a vaccine. Call it a bioweapon. And they talk about mind control," Gov. Asa Hutchinson said.

It must be his first time meeting his base......The thing is if your entire base is built on fear, you’ve got to continually stoke that fear until it’s out of control. When people realize the thing you’re making them afraid of isn’t that scary, the ante needs upped. When you keep coming up with newer, scarier, more absurd things for them to fear, your base is going to become more and more irrational. And irrational does not listen to reason when you suddenly need them to.Maybe some of these GOP leaders need to start saying the evil socialist communist scientist china obama hillary youth that don't salute the flag that came in a caravan over the border created the virus to kill Republicans and spread CRT and the only way to stay safe is to get the vaccine that trump and good christian american loving capitalists that sometimes dabble in science for good, created.

I think you'd have to control for age demographics as well. Given that certain younger age groups aren't eligible yet...they'd have to be removed from the equation.

"Mind control"... says the people from the state where extremist and fundamentalist religion is a lifestyle.

Of course, I am sure many are familiar here with the psychodynamic concept of projection? We want to see evil in others what we deny and repress in ourselves.

Well yes, after Donald J. Trump got the GOP to relinquish its hold to conservative principles, (free-trade, States’ rights, “separation-of-powers” doctrine), they needed something to rally around.
They’re well on their way to choosing “anger”.
After all, it’s a demagogue’s best weapon to slay the unbelievers*, and to keep the base in-line.

Social media has allowed us to get to know our fellow citizens and we’re finding that the loudest and most obnoxious demand more and more time to complain about the other 87.5%**.

Those of us in the majority will eventually remember why we used to pass by kooks on street corners with their mimeographed broadsides. They now populate street corners on the “information superhighway”, at a website near you!

*”unbelievers” in “Dear Leader”, religious purges don’t come until later

**one eighth of the people are driving the political narrative by complaining, nonstop, over every little thing that they disagree about with most of the rest of us. (This applies to the Left and Right, though the edge goes to the right IMO.)
