Well i have stopped watching football, basketball and now i guess i will add baseball to the list.
Must be hard to curate the things you enjoy out of political correctness.

What about the "Cuyas" or the "Hogs?" Cleveland IS the seat for Cuyahoga county - an (ahem) INDIAN name with various roots - some think Seneca, others Mohawk, or Wyandot...

But then, that'd probably irritate even more of the testy woke and necessitate a name change for the county too, and the river after which it's named... and Erie county, and Huron county, and Mahoning county, and Miami county, and Muskingum county, and Ottawa county, and Sandusky county, and Tuscarawas county, and Wyandot county.

...and while we're at it - changing the name of the state - OHIO (Iroquois) should probably be considered as well.

Where does this nonsense stop?
It stops at the team name. People just don’t like the idea of a franchise profiting off a name that is considered offensive and outdated to the group of people who bear the name.

Indian language place names are not at all comparable to Indian people as mascots.

I cant even believe I have to say this.

  • Considering you went from a baseball team changing it's name to saying the county and state names should be changed, I think it fits.
That demand is not fictional, however. There have been attempts to get state or federal governments to rename a large number of counties, thanks to the usual claim that anything the protesters don't care for must be racist. Or something.

But no one outside of Cleveland has any idea what that is all about and it's not very catchy, colorful, or baseball-related in any case.
How about the Screwballs?

Perhaps you do, considering that there are more than a few cases of forced name-changes where the old one was a tribal name and the tribe itself liked the recognition and wanted the name to be retained!

No matter. The usual haters of everything traditional had their way anyhow.

So anyone attempting to be sensitive to ethic backgrounds are haters of everything traditional now?

Different sport, but the Minnesota Vikings need to change their name because it offends me due to my ancestry.
I feel you but the "Indians" of Cleveland have a native mascot wearing a feather. They could have kept the name but put their mascot in a turban. Then it would show who Indians actually are.

I think it's why the indigenous people in America would rather not be referred to as a nationality that they are not. Basically, it's an outdated derogatory word so why keep it around?

Vikings actually were Vikings so they take pride in the name (I do anyway) How can a Native American be proud to see they are still be called Indians.
