It’s funny, I’m not really a fan but I watched a documentary about him the other night on tv, he was good friends with Hendrix and had a lot of respect and adoration for the black artists who’s music he played.

His support of the likes of Enoch Powell and his disgusting racist attitude in the mid 70s seem completely at odds with the Clapton of the 60s.

I really liked a lot of his early stuff. Up to and including Cream. But I honestly had no idea he was such a moron. I had to search for those comments online. I thought - surely not. But it certainly happened.

The thing is, we were all different people when we were young. I'd like to think that we all learn from our mistakes. But he had plenty of opportunity to distance himself from his remarks over the years and never seemed to admit how wrong he had been.

The fact that he said these things in Birmingham is especially cruel as it's always been a centre for immigration in the UK. A fair proporion of the audience that night wouldNhave been non white.

Eric has a spiritual side. This song was originally on the Blind Faith album. This version was recorded live in the early 70s at a Fillmore concert. It's one of best songs. And he does great work with the wah wah pedal in the instrumental break.
