A U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent has been arrested for allegedly participating in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol by supporters of then-President Donald Trump.

The agent, Mark Sami Ibrahim, allegedly flashed his badge and a DEA-issued handgun during the riot while posing for photos with those items. Photos of him doing so are included in a court filing.

“According to Ibrahim’s friend, Ibrahim went to the rally in order to promote himself,” the filing said. “Ibrahim had been thinking about his next move after leaving the DEA and wanted the protests to be his stage for launching a ‘Liberty Tavern’ political podcast and cigar brand.”
What? Are there no Trump Cigars?

Another member of the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia group, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to conspiracy and obstruction charges for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol assault.

Federal prosecutors say Caleb Berry participated in planning the riot when a mob of supporters of former President Donald Trump forced their way inside the Capitol while Congress was counting state-certified Electoral College votes. Berry is at least the fourth defendant with ties to the Oath Keepers to reach a plea deal with prosecutors.

On Jan. 7, Berry and others picked up firearms they dropped off two days earlier at a hotel in Arlington, Va., just outside Washington, D.C., according to court records.

The Department of Defense inspector general is launching a review of the Pentagon's and White House's ability to keep the "nuclear football" secure during a crisis, following an incident on January 6 when rioters came within 100 feet of the backup "football."

"I'm not aware that such an assessment has ever been done before," Stephen Schwartz, a nonresident senior fellow at the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, told CNN. "A violent domestic insurrection was almost certainly not part of the DOD and Secret Service threat matrix until six months ago, and it's the only recent known event putting the 'football' in significant potential danger to provoke this level of concern."

The Oath Keepers - the name comes up again. We know now what they stand for. Will it become a proscribed organisation after this?

In the US, they're called "Domestic Terrorist Organizations." And they will probably never be labeled as one in the US as long as the Republicans can fillibuster.

To be clear, there is no law that creates the designation of "domestic terror organization".

Congress can pass a resolution to that effect, like they tried to do regarding Antifa.

S.Res.279 - 116th Congress (2019-2020): A resolution calling for the designation of Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the resolution went nowhere and stayed there.

OK, the Republicans don't want any organization designated as a domestic terrorist organization. The creation of that designation has far reaching implications, little that is any good for the future of the Trump Republican Party.

That was for show. It is easy to pass nonsense when you know that it will not become law. How much did Pelosi pass while she was leader and Trump was president?

Not including two impeachments which led to GOP Senators voting to convict?

In the UK the designation 'proscribed organisation would be from the Home Office (our Ministry of the Interior) under advice from security forces. There would be no need for a law to be passed. The Home Secretary would face questions in Parliament from MPs.

I would have thought such a thing would be within the scope of your Homeland Security.

Texas man at Capitol riot allegedly threatened to kill his kids if they turned him in: ‘Traitors get shot’
Two days after Guy Reffitt joined the rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, federal officials said...
Family Values!

A federal judge forced a US Capitol rioter to unlock his laptop Wednesday after prosecutors argued that it likely contained footage of the January 6 insurrection from his helmet-worn camera.

The judge granted the Justice Department's request to place Capitol riot defendant Guy Reffitt in front of his laptop so they could use facial recognition to unlock the device. The maneuver happened after the hearing ended and Reffitt's lawyer confirmed to CNN that the laptop was unlocked.

He pleaded not guilty to five federal crimes, including bringing a handgun to the Capitol grounds during the insurrection and obstructing justice by allegedly threatening his family. The felony gun charge was added last month, and undercuts false claims from Trump and prominent Republican lawmakers that the rioters weren't armed and that they had "no guns whatsoever."

The case raised intriguing constitutional questions about the right against self-incrimination, but Judge Dabney Friedrich agreed with prosecutors that the unlocking was within the law.

So.... Is he going to shoot himself in the face now?

The semi-automatic pistol was 'deadly and dangerous', according to the judge, so he could but only if they allowed him to keep it. Oh, sorry, of course he still has it. Such weaponry is not regarded as deadly or dangerous unless it is fired at somebody.

A Capitol rioter who captured Ashli Babbitt's death on video became the 20th person to plead guilty for his involvement in the deadly January 6 insurrection.

Andrew Bennett of Maryland pleaded guilty Thursday in DC District Court to illegally demonstrating inside the US Capitol. He got the same deal as other nonviolent rioters pleading to a single misdemeanor -- including paying $500 in restitution for damage to the Capitol building and giving investigators access to his social media data.

Bennett was wearing a hat with a Proud Boys motto on it during the riot, prosecutors say.

As part of the plea, Bennett acknowledged that he tried to contact a Maryland chapter of the Proud Boys about becoming a member.
