When it comes to whether a Christian can drink alcohol, the Bible couldn’t be clearer or more direct. There is no Scripture that says that it’s a sin to drink alcohol.

It’s Not a Sin to Drink Alcohol.

Psalm 104:15
, we’re admonished to “go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already approved what you do.”

It’s not a sin for a Christian to drink alcohol. However, a Christian can drink alcohol under these three conditions.

1. A Christian can drink alcohol if alcohol addiction isn’t a trap.

I've never been one to take the tack that a Christian cannot drink alcohol simply because Jesus turned water into wine. Good wine, after everyone was already all lit up.

Now me personally? I do not drink. I take psychiatric medications and they do not agree with alcohol at all, so I don't. But I have no problem with people who do. The thing I have a slight problem with is when you have these twenty and thirty something guys with political YouTube channels who make a big show of drinking expensive beer, smoking expensive cigars and then telling you how "trad" they are because they've read GK Chesterton. I see that as largely trying to create an identity that has little to nothing to do with the church and using the church as an accessory rather than making it the focus of one's life.

But whatever, I just don't befriend those types because generally they do not respect me because I am not married and do not have children.

I think alcohol is a matter of personal conviction just like diet. People have reasons for consuming alcohol or choosing to abstain. I don’t think they should impress them others or shame someone for behaving differently.

Well, back then, it was maybe more permissible than it is today for many reasons that would pertain to that day and age back then, versus this day and age maybe now maybe, etc...

But yes, in general, I agree, you should only be able to drink, or you should only drink, only if addiction isn't a serious problem, or does not become a serious issue and/or problem, etc... But of course the danger is that it can be, and it is deleterious also, etc, and because it is so deleterious, or can be, etc, that could be or could cause a major problem with a lot of other possible consequences in many other areas of your life eventually also, etc, so it can maybe always be a "risk" maybe, and maybe for some much more of a "risk" than others, etc, and maybe a "great risk" also, etc...

But as far as salvation goes, I guess I cannot know, and cannot judge for all, etc...?

I'll leave that alone and let God fully handle that, etc...

God Bless!

The point in any sin of consumption is 'who is in control'? Is it you and God, or is it the substance. If it's a substance or action, such as gambling, then you need to gain control of it, or quit it all together. I do that with Oreos and Cheezits. If I eat one cookie, I might gobble the whole bag. But one glass of whiskey or wine will not lead to another, except on some special social occasion.

I've been told I am sinning by going barechested in the sun, because I am harming the temple. But I'm half bald and wear a hat, so I think it's ok. I think the sin is to cause people to stumble because of the awesome size of my belly...

This a very real problem I deal with. My medications, when I take them, make me hungry at night so I tend to eat more and then usually lay in bed watching videos, so I'm not working off any of the calories that I just consumed and thus I gain weight.

I try to remedy that by riding an exercise bike during the day but I could afford to actually do some real working again to burn off more.

My dad was a bad alcoholic. For a long time he had to give it up entirely or it would keep dragging him down. Since he is in a better place these days, he can have a beer here and there and not go too far with it.

Mom had a problem with drinking too. Knowing how it affected them keeps me from going down that rabbit hole. I drink very rarely and most of the time don't get drunk.

I love Bailey’s in my coffee. ‘Tis awesome.
I cannot stand coffee. And I’ve tried. The furthest I go is a green or chai tea. Does the Bailey’s offset the caffeine in coffee?

Oh my friend. Oh my dear sweet friend. You should try my favorite coffee: Uganda bugisu. Mix it with some milk/cream and sugar and you'll like it I bet. I discovered it 15 years ago when I was in Uganda for a bit, it's unlike any other coffee I've ever had.

Get it from these guys, proceeds go to clean water in Africa.

Bailey's is great. My mom was never a coffee drinker and she started cutting it with some Irish cream and now she has coffee regularly (not always with Baileys either).

Love you too my friend but where can one purchase it??

Coffees and beer kind of fall in the same category for me and it’s not for a lack of trying. :sorry:

I added a link to my post, there's a Christian nonprofit that sells the coffee from a native Ugandan farm coop and then directs the proceeds to clean water in Africa.

I think drinking alcohol is a slippery slope, but the Bible mentions drunkenness as a sin, not the alcohol itself.
That’s the thing. There is a difference in getting relaxed and having a good time and going off the deep end with booze and just getting sloppy and checking out.

It can be, sure. I think the tell is what kind of priority drinking holds in your life. If it's kind of your preferred pass time, that's a bit of a red flag.

I'm still getting used to the Long Island culture of drinking, it's no big deal for people to hang out in public and have wine or some other kind of booze. I guess there's a reason there's a tea named after them.

Frankly I find soda pop addictive. I went off of it for years but the craving never actually went away. I wonder if anyone who has experience with craving alcohol has an opinion on whether soda pop is comparably addictive. Some people drink bottles of that stuff at a time.

Lord knows I have my problems with soda. I like alcohol and coffee, but I don't drink them on a daily basis (sometimes 2x a day) like soda. I'm just glad it's basically my only source of sugar otherwise I'd probably much heavier than I am.
