There have been countless books written by men and women of God. Whether or not
they were written under the anointing of the Holy Spirit is really the issue. You may
read a book one of these days that speaks directly into your situation, and know that
it was all God that a brother or sister handed it to you.
The fact remains, God is still speaking, and if you had a meaningful encounter with God by way of a book, or devotional, that is for you to decide where to place that in your
walk of faith. What that means is that a book or devotional can become an idol.
The first time I read My Utmost For His Highest, I was blown away. God spoke to me early
and often in the reading of that devotional. I kept reading it for years until I decided it had become a habit, and let it go.
When the Spirit of the Lord is at work, then the truth spoken by the angel Gabriel to Mary
lives on:
"With God, no word is without power".
I remember back in 2000, author Bruce Wilkerson published a little book based on the simplest of scriptures:
1 Chronicles 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, Oh, that You would bless me
indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
The Prayer of Jabez transformed the prayer lives of millions, from a book that cost less
than a graphic novel from a comic book store. The time we are living in, and the effects of Christian publishing is a form of scriptural prophetic fulfillment.
Ecclesiastes 12:
9 And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge;
yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs.
10 The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and what was written was upright—
words of truth.
11 The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven
nails, given by one Shepherd.
12 And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making many books there is
no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh.
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.
14 For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
