Brother, in this video, my professor summarizes the conclusion of his study, how he changed the opinion of his own professor who admitted that the change from Sabbath to Sunday was post apostolic. No apostle was responsible for the change.
The predominant academic opinion before the study of my professor was that the Jerusalem church pioneered the abandonment of the Sabbath for Sunday. The reason is that only the apostolic church in Jerusalem could have the authority to make such a change. To counter this assumption, Bacchiocchi discovered that Epiphanius (about 350) tells the story of the direct descendants of the Jerusalem church. Epiphanius informs us that the Nazarenes persisted in the observance of the Sabbath until his own time (about A.D. 350). Bacchiocchi found this document in Greek and Latin. He shared this finding with his professor, who admitted that this was a fatal blow to the thought that the Jerusalem church made the change from Sabbath to Sunday to celebrate the resurection of Jesus. If a direct descendent of the Jerusalem church insisted and persisted in the observance of the Sabbath until the fourth century, then they could hardly have been responsible for changing the Sabbath to Sunday in the first place. His finding definitely showed the Jerusalem church is excluded. In his defense of his dissertation, his professor admitted having changed his mind and acknowledged that Sunday keeping is a post apostolic phenomenon. I see no indication that this preference for days is a salvation issue, in fact the author seems to be stating that it isn't one...

That is a passage regarding fasting and not The Sabbath:

One man hath faith to eat all things: but he that is weak eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

Carl you keep trying to read into the scriptures what the scriptures do not say and do not teach. There is no mention of Gods' 4th commandment Sabbath at all in Romans 14. Can you find me a single scripture in all of the bible that says Gods' 4th commandment (seventh day Sabbath) has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day of rest? - There is none. If there is no scripture and God's 4th commandment is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken (Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4) and if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin *James 2:10-11 does this not worry you? It should (see Hebrews 10:26-31). According to the scriptures in times of ignorance God winks at but when he gives us a knowledge of the truth of His Word he calls us to believe and follow it *Acts of the Apostles 17:30-31. The question that will becoming to all of us is, who do we believe and follow; God or man? The time is coming and now is that the true worshipers will worship God in Spirit and in truth. God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. BABYLON has fallen *Revelation 14:8-12; Revelation 18:1-5. God is calling us out from following man-made teachings and traditions back to the pure Word of God. Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters *Revelation 14:7-12. "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy"... Exodus 20:8-11.

That thread seems to be about you, instead the text of Colossians 2:16-17.

I know your post was in response to someone else but I think the linked posts provided to you already in our discussions only sent in love and as a help, prove beyond all doubt through the scriptures alone that Jesus is not the "seventh day" Sabbath just as he is not a new moon or a Feast day just as much as Colossians 2:16 discussed earlier in context is in reference to the annual Feast days, and all their meat and drink offerings new moons and their annual sabbath days (plural). Which of course cannot be the "seventh day" Sabbath of God's 10 commandments which is weekly and eternal pointing backwards and not forwards to the finished work of creation (Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 20:8-11). Scriptures support already provided, here; here; here; here; and here linked as a reference and help. Your trying to cherry pick scripture out of context to try and make them say things they do not say or do not teach despite being corrected already. See also post # 394 and post # 397 linked. Of course you are free to believe as you wish. That would be between you and God now. Ignoring the scriptures however does not make them disappear according to John 12:47-48 which is something we should all pray about.

But He didn’t say anything about worshipping on the Sabbath, He said remember not to work on it. The word Holy means to set apart, to consecrate, to keep sacred. It means it’s not to be treated as just any day of the week, but it doesn’t mean that we must worship. If we must worship then the Sabbath is for God not for man.

I think somewhere along the way Christians started calling going to church on Sunday the sabbath. Then Ellen White got upset over that and insisted we should go to church on Saturday instead. Of course sabbath just means rest. As in rest from physical labor. Not worship or church.

Actually no. Exodus 20:8-11 is God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments spoken *Exodus 20:1-17 and written with God's own finger *Exodus 32:16 that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken according to Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4. After all I think it was Jesus (not EGW) that said if we follow man-made teachings and traditions that break the commandments of God we are not worshiping God in Matthew 15:3-9 wasn't it? Sunday worship is a man-made teaching and tradition that has been handed down to Protestantism by the Roman Catholic Church as a replacement to Gods' 4th commandment. In fact there is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says Gods 4th commandment has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day of rest. Your quite wrong if you think that the Sabbath is not over worship. You might want to consider Isaiah 66:23 for example. Sabbath is all about worship as it is a memorial (Exodus 20:8) of creation and God as the creator of heaven and earth and a sign that we are His people *Exodus 31:13 and it is the same God that created all things that is saving us from our sins.

If you are still "working" in an attempt to keep the Sinai Covenant, it is no wonder you cannot accept what the text of Colossians 2:16-17 actually says.

Col 2:16 Let no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths,
Col 2:17 which are a shadow of the coming things, and the body is of the Christ;


You have failed to "cast out" the Sinai Covenant of "bondage" as Paul commanded in Galatians 4:24-31, because it is now "obsolete" in Hebrews 8:13.
The same man who recorded Galatians 4:24-31 also recorded Colossians 2:16-17.
Do you think Paul changed his mind?

You also cannot accept what the Early Church Fathers said below about the Sabbath. Do you think they are all wrong, and Ellen G. White is correct?

The Lawgiver is present, yet you do not see Him; to the poor the Gospel is preached, the blind see, yet you do not understand. You have now need of a second circumcision, though you glory greatly in the flesh. The new law requires you to keep perpetual sabbath, and you, because you are idle for one day, suppose you are pious, not discerning why this has been commanded you: and if you eat unleavened bread, you say the will of God has been fulfilled. The Lord our God does not take pleasure in such observances: if there is any perjured person or a thief among you, let him cease to be so; if any adulterer, let him repent; then he has kept the sweet and true sabbaths of God. Tertullian

“[L]et him who contends that the Sabbath is still to be observed as a balm of salvation, and circumcision on the eighth day . . . teach us that, for the time past, righteous men kept the Sabbath or practiced circumcision, and were thus rendered ‘friends of God.’ For if circumcision purges a man, since God made Adam uncircumcised, why did he not circumcise him, even after his sinning, if circumcision purges? . . . Therefore, since God originated Adam uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, consequently his offspring also, Abel, offering him sacrifices, uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, was by him [God] commended [Gen. 4:1–7, Heb. 11:4]. . . . Noah also, uncircumcised—yes, and unobservant of the Sabbath—God freed from the deluge. For Enoch too, most righteous man, uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, he translated from this world, who did not first taste death in order that, being a candidate for eternal life, he might show us that we also may, without the burden of the law of Moses, please God”(An Answer to the Jews Chapter II.—The Law Anterior to Moses. [A.D. 203]).

It follows, accordingly, that, in so far as the abolition of carnal circumcision and of the old law is demonstrated as having been consummated at its specific times, so also the observance of the Sabbath is demonstrated to have been temporary.For the Jews say, that from the beginning God sanctified the seventh day, by resting on it from all His works which He made; and that thence it was, likewise, that Moses said to the People: “Remember the day of the sabbaths, to sanctify it: every servile work ye shall not do therein, except what pertaineth unto life.” Whence we (Christians) understand that we still more ought to observe a sabbath from all “servile work” always, and not only every seventh day, but through all time. And through this arises the question for us, what sabbath God willed us to keep? For the Scriptures point to a sabbath eternal and a sabbath temporal. In short, let them teach us, as we have already premised, that Adam observed the sabbath; or that Abel, when offering to God a holy victim, pleased Him by a religious reverence for the sabbath; or that Enoch, when translated, had been a keeper of the sabbath; or that Noah the ark-builder observed, on account of the deluge, an immense sabbath; or that Abraham, in observance of the sabbath, offered Isaac his son; or that Melchizedek in his priesthood received the law of the sabbath

But the Jews are sure to say, that ever since this precept was given through Moses, the observance has been binding. Manifest accordingly it is, that the precept was not eternal nor spiritual, but temporary, which would one day cease. In short, so true is it that it is not in the exemption from work of the sabbath—that is, of the seventh day—that the celebration of this solemnity is to consist, that Joshua the son of Nun, at the time that he was reducing the city Jericho by war, stated that he had received from God a precept to order the People that priests should carry the ark of the testament of God seven days, making the circuit of the city; and thus, when the seventh day’s circuit had been performed, the walls of the city would spontaneously fall. Which was so done; and when the space of the seventh day was finished, just as was predicted, down fell the walls of the city. Whence it is manifestly shown, that in the number of the seven days there intervened a sabbath-day. For seven days, whencesoever they may have commenced, must necessarily include within them a sabbath-day; on which day not only must the priests have worked, but the city must have been made a prey by the edge of the sword by all the people of Israel. Nor is it doubtful that they “wrought servile work,” when, in obedience to God’s precept, they drave the preys of war. For in the times of the Maccabees, too, they did bravely in fighting on the sabbaths, and routed their foreign foes, and recalled the law of their fathers to the primitive style of life by fighting on the sabbaths. Nor should I think it was any other law which they thus vindicated, than the one in which they remembered the existence of the prescript touching “the day of the sabbaths.” Whence it is manifest that the force of such precepts was temporary, and respected the necessity of present circumstances; and that it was not with a view to its observance in perpetuity that God formerly gave them such a law.(An Answer to the Jews Chapter IV.—Of the Observance of the Sabbath.)

Therefore, since it is manifest that a sabbath temporal was shown, and a sabbath eternal foretold; a circumcision carnal foretold, and a circumcision spiritual pre-indicated; a law temporal and a law eternal formally declared; sacrifices carnal and sacrifices spiritual foreshown; it follows that, after all these precepts had been given carnally, in time preceding, to the people Israel, there was to supervene a time whereat the precepts of the ancient Law and of the old ceremonies would cease, and the promise3 of the new law, and the recognition of spiritual sacrifices, and the promise of the New Testament, supervene;4 while the light from on high would beam upon us who were sitting in darkness, and were being detained in the shadow of death.5 And so there is incumbent on us a necessity6 binding us, since we have premised that a new law was predicted by the prophets, and that not such as had been already given to their fathers at the time when He led them forth from the land of Egypt,7 to show and prove, on the one hand, that that old Law has ceased, and on the other, that the promised new law is now in operation.

And, indeed, first we must inquire whether there be expected a giver of the new law, and an heir of the new testament, and a priest of the new sacrifices, and a purger of the new circumcision, and an observer of the eternal sabbath, to suppress the old law, and institute the new testament, and offer the new sacrifices, and repress the ancient ceremonies, and suppress8 the old circumcision together with its own sabbath, and announce the new kingdom which is not corruptible. Inquire, I say, we must, whether this giver of the new law, observer of the spiritual sabbath, priest of the eternal sacrifices, eternal ruler of the eternal kingdom, be come or no: that, if he is already come, service may have to be rendered him; if he is not yet come, he may have to be awaited, until by his advent it be manifest that the old Law’s precepts are suppressed, and that the beginnings of the new law ought to arise. And, primarily, we must lay it down that the ancient Law and the prophets could not have ceased, unless He were come who was constantly announced, through the same Law and through the same prophets, as to come.(An Answer to the Jews Chapter VI.—Of the Abolition and the Abolisher of the Old Law. But you, many of you, also under pretence sometimes of worshipping the heavenly bodies, move your lips in the direction of the sunrise. In the same way, if we devote Sun-day to rejoicing, from a far different reason than Sun-worship, we have some resemblance to those of you who devote the day of Saturn to ease and luxury, though they too go far away from Jewish ways, of which indeed they are ignorant.(Apology Chapter XVI.)

I wonder if anyone has considered God is testing us over the Sabbath. Throughout the bible we are shown examples of God testing people. There are a couple scriptures that if you r e a l l y want to make a case against God's Sabbath like Colossians 2:14-16. That would required deleting the 170+ Sabbath scripture verses and all the hundreds of commandment keeping verses in the bible and making God contradict Himself. Psalms 89:34 Malachi 3:6 Exodus 20:8, Exodus 31:16, Isaiah 66:23

I know Colossians 2:16 is not speaking about the seventh day Sabbath commandment that God personally wrote on stone and stored in the Most holy of His Temple because it's about food and drink and its about ordinances, not the one commandment of God that He told us to REMEMBER. It fits perfect though with the ordinances of the law of Moses found in Lev 23 which talks about the annual sabbath(s) feast days that is all abut food and drink. God said and wrote this:

Exodus 20:10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. This should be the end of the discussion. This is God's authority! Why would anyone want to obey man's authority and will over God's authority and will?

This one verse:

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
- Colossians 2:16

Does not wipe out these verses:

And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
- Exodus 16:23

And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
- Exodus 16:25

Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
- Exodus 16:26

See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
- Exodus 16:29

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Sunday worship is a man-made teaching and tradition that has been handed down to Protestantism by the Roman Catholic Church as a replacement to Gods' 4th commandment.

God’s 4th commandment says nothing about Saturday. 6 days shall you work but on the 7th rest. He didn’t say the 7th day of the week.

And it was not started by the Roman Catholic Church it was started by Paul.

Here is the commandment that God wrote and spoke and kept in the Most holy of His Temple:

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it

Do you know which day Jesus rose? People seem to take no issue knowing Jesus rose on the first day, but have a hard time, for some reason locating the seventh day? God's Sabbath is a weekly cycle. Six days do all our work, but the seventh we are to cease work and keep God's Sabbath day holy. The weekly cycle has never changed, which is why Jews who are still on this earth to this day, know which day is the seventh day- Saturday. It has never changed from the beginning, nor will it ever change Isaiah 66:23 because God promised His Sabbath is a perpetual covenant Exodus 31:16 and He will not break His covenant. Psalms 89:34.

That said, the Roman Catholic Church takes full credit for this change (and as predicted in the bible Daniel 7:25) not based on any biblical authority including no scripture from Paul where He deletes God's 4th commandment's and gives a new commandment to keep holy the first day.


The change is well-documented from the Catholic church:


It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.

The Church, on the other hand, after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath, or Seventh day of the week, to the first, made the Third Commandment refer to Sunday as the day to be kept holy as the Lord's Day. But since Saturday, not Sunday, is specified in the Bible, isn't it curious that non-Catholics who profess to take their religion directly from the Bible and not the Church, observe Sunday instead of Saturday? Yes, of course, it is inconsistent; but this change was made about fifteen centuries before Protestantism was born, and by that time the custom was universally observed.

They have continued the custom, even though it rests upon the authority of the Catholic Church and not upon an explicit text in the Bible. The day of resurrection, the day of Pentecost, fifty days later, came on the first day of the week. So this would be the new Sabbath. People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically become 7th Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.

What Important Question Does the Papacy Ask Protestants?
Protestants have repeatedly asked the papacy, "How could you dare to change God's law?" But the question posed to Protestants by the Catholic church is even more penetrating.

Here it is officially: You will tell me that Saturday was the Jewish Sabbath, but that the Christian Sabbath has been changed to Sunday. Changed! but by whom? Who has authority to change an express commandment of Almighty God? When God has spoken and said, Thou shalt keep holy the Seventh day, who shall dare to say, Nay, thou mayest work and do all manner of worldly business on the Seventh day; but thou shalt keep holy the first day in its stead?

This is a most important question, which I know not how you can answer. You are a Protestant, and you profess to go by the Bible and the Bible only; and yet in so important a matter as the observance of one day in seven as a holy day, you go against the plain letter of the Bible, and put another day in the place of that day which the Bible has commanded.

The command to keep holy the Seventh day is one of the ten commandments; you believe that the other nine are still binding; who gave you authority to tamper with the fourth? If you are consistent with your own principles, if you really follow the Bible and the Bible only, you ought to be able to produce some portion of the New Testament in which this fourth commandment is expressly altered.

There is but one church on the face of the earth which has the power, or claims power, to make laws binding on the conscience, binding before God, binding under penalty of hell-fire. For instance, the institution of Sunday. What right has any other church to keep this day? You answer by virtue of the third commandment (the papacy did away with the 2nd regarding the worship of graven images, and called the 4th the 3rd), which says 'Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day.'

But Sunday is not the Sabbath. Any schoolboy knows that Sunday is the first day of the week. I have repeatedly offered one thousand dollars to anyone who will prove by the Bible alone that Sunday is the day we are bound to keep, and no one has called for the money. It was the holy Catholic Church that changed the day of rest from Saturday, the Seventh day, to Sunday, the first day of the week.

The Sabbath was Saturday, not Sunday. The Church altered the observance of the Sabbath to the observance of Sunday. That said, the Roman Catholic Church takes full credit for this change (and as predicted in the bible Daniel 7:25) not based on any biblical authority including no scripture from Paul where He deletes God's 4th commandment's and gives a new commandment to keep holy the first day.

We both know that isn’t true. You know full well that Paul celebrated the Lord’s Day on Sunday so stop trying to cover it up with this false statement about the Roman Church starting that tradition. Paul was celebrating the Lord’s Day before he even went to Rome. Acts 20 records Paul celebrating the Lord’s Day on Sunday before he was arrested and eventually taken to Rome. So the Roman Church hadn’t even been established yet.

Do folks not take this seriously from Romans 14...

5 One person values one day over another, another values every day the same. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and the one who eats, does so with regard to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and the one who does not eat, it is for the Lord that he does not eat, and he gives thanks to God. 7 For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; 8 for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.

10 But as for you, why do you judge your brother or sister?

I see no indication that this preference for days is a salvation issue, in fact the author seems to be stating that it isn't one...

If you are still "working" in an attempt to keep the Sinai Covenant, it is no wonder you cannot accept what the text of Colossians 2:16-17 actually says.

Col 2:16 Let no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths,
Col 2:17 which are a shadow of the coming things, and the body is of the Christ;


You have failed to "cast out" the Sinai Covenant of "bondage" as Paul commanded in Galatians 4:24-31, because it is now "obsolete" in Hebrews 8:13.
The same man who recorded Galatians 4:24-31 also recorded Colossians 2:16-17.
Do you think Paul changed his mind?

Paul can be difficult to understand.

Yahshua more often makes himself very clear.

Do you believe Paul's words override Yahshua's words, which are his father's words; or is it possible that this conflict lies in your misunderstanding of Paul's words?

How is that a false statement when I quoted directly from the Catholic church?

If God was going to delete one of His commandments, especially the only one He started with the word REMEMBER Jesus would have told someone. Where does Jesus tell us after He goes back to Heaven there is the new day of worship or God's new holy day? Where does Paul say it? Acts 20 does not say Gods 4th commandment is deleted and Sunday is the new holy day. You are making scripture say something is doesn't when we have God's Word that is so plainly written.

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Isaiah 58"13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord honorable,
And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,

And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth,
And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
