Apparently there are churches being burned across Canada. Does anyone else know about this?
This is very likely what sent some people who hated Christians anyway over the edge. Whatever happened in the past, this is terrorism. No, but I did see a report this week on the cable news about what happened to Native American (First Nations) children in Canada for decades. They were taken by the government and placed into church operated schools and not allowed to speak in their native tongue and some were physically and/or sexually abused. Some died and were buried and the bodies were not returned to their parents. If I recall correctly, this practice continued until about 1996. It is quite possible/probable that any church burnings in Canada are related to this sad practice.
You could be right. I do not know for certain. Obviously, I do not favor the burning of churches. However, it does seem like some form of deep regret and/or restitution is in order for what happened to the First Nations children in Canada. This is very likely what sent some people who hated Christians anyway over the edge. Well, only 5, but yes, this is happening.Apparently there are churches being burned across Canada. Does anyone else know about this?
The last such school closed in 1996. But I am quite sure these abuses were not happening that recently. If I recall correctly, this practice continued until about 1996.
I suspect that you re correct. I was shocked to hear that year quoted, as 1996 is not that long ago.The last such school closed in 1996. But I am quite sure these abuses were not happening that recently.
Which has been happening and is still being discussed, as far as I have heard. People are saying enough hasn't been done, and that's a valid concern. Burning churches however, is neither restitution nor justice. It is injustice, and the perpetrators deserve to be punished to the full extent of the law.You could be right. I do not know for certain. Shocking is the only word that comes to my mind to describe what happened. I knew that the U.S. government did some bad things to some of the Native American tribes, but I did not know that Canada did as well.Yes its in response for the hundreds of dead aboriginal children in unmarked graves in old residential school sights that are being found. They were putting in a new waterline by the one in kamloops bc and found 215 children in a mass grave. Now they are searching every former residential school grounds. And theybare finding more and more. Who knows how many in total before all sights are surveyed
Edit: im not trying to be rude, but i saw a thread a few days ago on how pope frances was commenting on how sad it was the president of haiti was assassinated or attempted cant remember. But as far as i know he hasnt even publicly acknowledged whats happening in canada right now with all the childrens bodies being found.

One just a 20 minute drive away from me. Really sad.I've read almost a dozen churches have been burned up so far
Restitution was already been made over the residential school issues. This was old news. The unmarked graves are a new matter demanding recognition of the sites, rather than turning them into parking lots and campgrounds which is what was happening. However the radicals are again using this to cause political disturbance even though the school issue was already settled.
These folks have the right attitude.
Residential school survivors call for an end to arson attacks on churches
I agree, the pain will never go away and I can appreciate the desire to keep the memory of the disgraceful events alive, but the residential school issue was 'officially' settled. This graveyard issue is something new. The complaints here were the land being used for campgrounds and parking after the schools were torn down. All they asked was respect for the burial sites and the addition of markers. So you cannot say restitution has been made and its old news.
This sounds very dismissive to the issue and intergenerational-trauma, i see people every day that went to residential schools who were beaten and molested. My mother-in-law cant listen to the constant radio broadcasts about this issue without bursting into tears because shes reliving what she went through. So you cannot say restitution has been made and its old news.
I feel very bad for the churches that are being burned, and it saddens my heart and it shouldnt be happening. Now If you are brushing off the issue of the children that have been found in the mass graves as well as the trauma thats still felt from thw residential schools, my family couldve been in those graves, and i think you might need more empathy on the matter or simply not comment at all
