A nation is also a corporate entity with a responsibility for it's actions whether they involve unjustified war or the intentional mistreatment of minorities through action or inaction. It doesn't matter if you or your parents came from another place. As a citizen of the country, you are effectively a shareholder and you share in the corporate responsibility. This doesn't necessarily mean you share blame.
GREAT NEWS! The Welsh were badly mistreated by the UK for centuries. As a former colony, the US Government owes ME reparations for mistreatment of the Welsh going back to the Roman occupation.

The Africans will just have to wait their turn until my millennial old claim is resolved, then we can worry about some two century old “Johnny come lately” claim. :)

No - they did not assign atrocities to an entire race - and then hold their decendents accountable 100 plus years later.

Who said anything about "assigning an atrocity"?

There's nothing more racist than targeting an entire ethnic group with a collective crime regardless of the innocence or guilt of its individuals.

Since the UK didn't exist prior to 1707, and included Wales, you are effectively asking yourself to compensate yourself.

As for the Roman occupation bit - talk to the Italians. :(

I just think most of the financial problems of today has to do with the choices of today.

The same place most middle class black wealth come from; today’s economy.

Then you’d be wrong. I’m 40 and I can draw direct links between the wealth I and my wife possess today to things our grandparents did 70-80 years ago. Our present wealth has built on the wealth of at least the two preceding generations (probably 3, though I’m less familiar with them)

How prevalent were Jim Crow laws in the Suburbs of Northern NJ after WW2?

More prevalent than you think.
Levitt & Sons - Wikipedia

Levitt basically invented the American suburb in the NYC/NJ/Philly area and excluded blacks from buying in his developments.

ETA: Labor unions have a history of racist policies (and power in the NJ area). And I bet if you went digging, you’d probably find a bunch of resistance to school integration, too.

How are you on the hook for slavery ?

What is your suffering ?
Reparations Now: Why White People Must Join The Call To Pay Reparations For Slavery
"....white Americans, including men like me, have a special, and unquestionable, responsibility to take up the cause of reparations, and help make them happen."

"As a white person who benefits from my country’s unpaid debt to ancestors of slaves, I too must take up the mantle of responsibility to call for and pay reparations that attempt to right a historic wrong. "

" The devastating income inequality gap between white and Black alone merits the payment of reparations."

"Indeed, what an examination of reparations appeals reveals is not a lack of good arguments, but a lack of white people to help relentlessly advocate for them. While some political leaders and other public figures stand behind the call to action, far too few white Americans are advocating for measures to make reparations a reality. In order for legislative reparations appeals to be validated, many more people will need to join the struggle, especially white voters."

Alert me when you're PAYING reparations ... as opposed to just citing others' opinions about it ...

What good would that do? We were alerting you guys all of last year as rioting was actually happening all over the country, and all we heard back was a bunch of excuses.

I am paying reparations in the form of income transfer based on more than half a century of failed government efforts to “fix” the problem … and the tax percentage for income transfer continues to rise. The ‘opinions’ claimed that I should be SUPPORTING the effort to demand that I pay more. Electing Democrats has already assured that I WILL pay more.

How long should those programs take to fix the problem? How long should it take to fix a problem that took a couple centuries to create?

I notice how you didn't address the fact that he is indeed paying reparations after it was claimed he wasn't. Now you seem more interested in getting him to explain why he shouldn't have to keep paying them for the rest of his life.

How prevalent were Jim Crow laws in the Suburbs of Northern NJ after WW2? From history classes, I seem to remember them being mainly a Reconstruction Era tactic in the 19th Century that lingered into the 1950’s across the south in the form of “separate but unequal” facilities. There were issues with insurance and mortgage underwriting, but my family were chemists at Union Carbide, so we had nothing to do with that. (We are responsible for radar domes on night fighters, ugly black ‘Bakelite’ phones, Pampers, color in plastics, fire-retardant treatments and the IR invisible covers on Abrams Tank MGs. Since the 1980’s I have added Commercial Land Development of Auto Dealerships, Medical Centers, Hurricane Shelters, Fire Stations and Shopping Centers.)

Real estate redlining. Prohibitions against blacks buying homes in the new suburbs springing up after WWII. Actions by the VA to prevent black veterans from taking full advantage of VA home and college loans. Those who benefit from criminal actions are complicit in criminal actions.

Technically, the BLACK community owes my family a Gas Station from the Newark Riots in the 1960s. To whom do I apply to get reparations from every living African American that wasn’t there? ;)

No insurance? Then you're right. Demand your due.

First, I don't think reparations are ever going to happen. But if they did, one YouTuber called "Beau of the Fifth Column" (a Florida white guy) has come up with I think the best idea. He proposes (if reparations were to happen) that the federal government put a couple of billion dollars into a trust fund that would provide interest-free loans to black small businesses--being, in effect, the "rich uncle" who provided loans that propelled so many white small businesses or the easier access to bank loans that white small businesses had for so many years. The loans would have to be paid back, and the trust fund account would continue to accrue interest and stock dividends, so it would not have to be replenished by continued Congressional appropriations. And because it would not be a direct cash hand out, it would require positive and effective effort from its recipients.

Good idea, but wistful thinking.

IMO, the end of the Boomer Generation should be the end of specific "Affirmative Action" requirements because AA is not reparations, AA is a compensatory program against racism still being perpetrated by Boomers. When we're gone, it will be time for a new start.

~ Jordan Peterson (Canadian Clinical Psychologist)
Thoughts? Please address the statement above.
So he's basically saying that there's nothing more racist than the Armenians holding the Turks responsible for their collective crime of genocide against the Armenians (and Greeks and Assyrians and Arabs). So I think his comment is racist itself. Calling out systemic racism is not racism, but that's the myth he's trying to justify here.

A progressive tax code is not reparations.

My family never served, so we never gained VA benefits either. (I just don’t want to be overcharged, so I would like a refund on that one). :)

Newark had no shortage of blacks living alongside whites (remember the Gas station they burned in 1967). I am not an expert on redlining, but I think it had ended by 1972 … when we fled our ‘integrated’ neighborhood. We had to abandon three family properties to the City and start over. So I feel that charging me for redlining is as unjust as the practice from which I neither participated nor benefitted.
