That doesn't seem to follow, considering it starts out saying it was past the Sabbath. Besides bringing spices to anoint the body probably would have been prohibitive work on the Sabbath.

The account reveals two Sabbaths; a "high day" Sabbath followed by the weekly Sabbath. Jesus burial was hurried as the 1st Day of Unleavened Bread approached, which was the "high day" Sabbath.

Sounds like a pretty inexact formula.

These passages of scripture from the old covenant of law obviously apply to the Israelites who are of man. Sabbath keeping (with all it's rules and regulations) was part of a covenant with Israel that is not binding on Christians under the new covenant.

Colossians 2:16 - Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.
THE DOCTRINES AND COMMANDMENTS AND TRADITIONS OF MEN

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: in whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God. Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (touch not; taste not; handle not; which all are to perish with the using) after the commandments and doctrines of men?" --Colossians 2:8-22

--The sabbaths mentioned above are not at all the same as the sabbath of the Lord, for the sabbath of the Lord is not maintained by the traditions of men, nor is it conflated with all of the other sabbaths and holy days, for it is separated from all other days as holy to God, by God Himself, viz:

GOD SEPARATES THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL OTHER SABBATHS AND HOLY DAYS AS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD

Leviticus ch. 23 (in it's entirety), enjoy:

The Seventh Day is The Sabbath of The Lord

"And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings."

These Are The Feasts of The Lord

"These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord's passover. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest: and he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it. And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the Lord. And the meat offering thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the Lord for a sweet savour: and the drink offering thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin. And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete: even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the Lord. Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the Lord. And ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one young bullock, and two rams: they shall be for a burnt offering unto the Lord, with their meat offering, and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of sweet savour unto the Lord. Then ye shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings. And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the Lord, with the two lambs: they shall be holy to the Lord for the priest. And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations. And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the Lord your God. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord. And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God. For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the Lord. On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein."

These Are The Feasts of The Lord Beside The Sabbaths of The Lord

"These are the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day: beside the sabbaths of the Lord, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the Lord. Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath. And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days. And ye shall keep it a feast unto the Lord seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month. Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God. And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the Lord." --Leviticus ch. 23

--God Himself separates the seventh day from all other sabbaths: who are we to adjoin what God has separated?

Did Jesus Christ get up, read from the scroll of Isaiah and sit back down in Luke 4 like I suggested? The answer is yes, did he go on to share more with them afterwards yes have you enlightened myself with anything not as yet but if you can please do so.
You missed it, man, the custom of the Lord, in His hometown; moreover, you missed that he preached the actual gospel in His hometown on the sabbath, viz:

THE CUSTOM OF THE LORD

"And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears." --Luke 4:16-21

--I cannot enlighten you, only Christ can: I'm simply pointing you to Him, to His way, so that you may be enlightened by the only true light of the world.

There are more pieces to the puzzle, namely the three days and three nights in the grave. Of course the "Easter" season is past so we'll have to revive this discussion next year when these arguments usually arise.

God wants me to "prosper and be in health" (which includes spiritual health). Resting on the Sabbath helps me obtain all three. The Sabbath was made for my benefit, but God is also glorified by my success.
All of the commandments are for our benefit; only the old administration of the law was against us, but God's law is for us: His commands are not burdensome, but beneficial; however, that is not the reason for keeping them: as I exposed before, you keep the sabbath for your own reasons, not His; therefore, your keeping of the sabbath is despite the Lord's command instead of because of it. --you are not keeping the sabbath, as the Lord commands, and certainly not because the Lord commands it, but because you think it's a good idea: I hope you can see that such a position makes you a judge of the law instead of a doer of it.

Nope it's not but I never said it was, you're assuming.. And what do we do if we do sin ( it's written in 1 John 1:9)? But that's not even the point,or maybe you actually go to a synagogue on Sat as part of your structured duty..
I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about your refusal to obey God.

Be sure to check the early scriptures before going off half cocked claiming to enlighten people brother I learnt the hard way to always do your research here is the 1550 receptus and translation:

καὶ αὐτὸς ἐδίδασκεν ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν δοξαζόμενος ὑπὸ πάντων

‎And he taught them in their synagogues, glorified by all things.‎

And he came to Nazareth, where he was broken, and he came upon him on the day of Saturdays to the synagogue, and he rose up.

καὶ ἐπεδόθη αὐτῷ βιβλίον Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου καὶ ἀναπτύξας τὸ βιβλίον εὗρεν τὸν τόπον οὗ ἦν γεγραμμένον

‎And he went to the book of the prophet, and he developed the book, which was written in the place where he was written.‎

‎The spirit of the Lord in me, which is to be said by the poor, is to be sent away with the broken heart, and to preach to the unspoiled, and to the blind‎

κηρύξαι ἐνιαυτὸν κυρίου δεκτόν

‎declare himself a gentleman accepted‎

‎And you have styxed the book, and you have given it to him, and you have done it And all in the synagogue, the eyes were on him.‎

It does NOT say this:
κηρύξαι ἐνιαυτὸν κυρίου δεκτόν (‎declare himself a gentleman accepted‎)

It VERY clearly uses the word Κυρίου...Lord's
dekton means acceptable or favorable

"I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about your refusal to obey God".

Be careful . There is a huge difference between following God, walking with Him, believing and trusting Him and listening to Him, being engaged with Him, His word, His church, compared to mans precepts coming and condemning with words from law . We are very strongly warned to watch out for them. And then you show up accusing the brethren..

EDIT: Deleted the automatic emoticon, and added a heading for more clarity.
An unbiased reading of Colossians 2:16 shows this is not just talking about "ceremonial sabbaths." The words "ton sabbaton" or "sabbath days"; are the same words translated "sabbath day" in Exodus 20:8 in the Septuagint (the Jewish translation of the Old Testament into Greek).

Paul's reasoning, "Let no one judge you regarding a,

festival - yearly Sabbaths,
a new moon - monthly Sabbaths,
or a Sabbath day - weekly Sabbaths (or if you wish Sabbath days)"
Christ, he goes on to say is the "Substance", these things were 'shadows.'

Compare with Galatians 4:9 and notice the obvious connection in Paul's teaching - "But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? You observe days and months and seasons and years."

Verse 10 clearly states, "you observe...",

days (weekly sabbaths, corresponding to "sabbath days in Colossians 2)
months (new moons, corresponding to "a new moon" in Colossians 2)
seasons (the 7 feasts, corresponding to "festivals" in Colossians 2)
and years (the sabbatical year and the 50th year of Jubilee)

Paul is clearing speaking about the observances of all Jewish holy days, including the weekly sabbath.

Even when sabbatarians today set out to worship on the sabbath, are they truly "keeping the sabbath?" The "keep" the sabbath as it was required in the Old Testament under the old covenant would involve compliance with specific regulations (Exodus 16:23; 35:3; Leviticus 23:32; Jeremiah 17:21) that were strictly enforced.

If Sabbath day observances are still required, so would the burnt offerings which went along with them (Leviticus 19:30; 23:2-3; Numbers 28:1-10; 29:39-40; I Chronicles. 23:30-31; II Chronicles 31:2-4; Isaiah 1:13). So no kindling a fire in any of your dwellings on the sabbath (Exodus 35:3). Every man must remain in his place on the sabbath (Exodus 16:29). No trading (Amos 8:5). No marketing (Nehemiah 10:31; 13:15,19).

These were commanded by God to Israel (Exodus 35:1). If the seventh day sabbath is still in affect today, then why don't sabbatarians seek to obey ALL that the Lord has commanded? How can a person keep a certain law when he only keeps part of it? If the Sabbath day laws were still in effect today, then according to Exodus 31:12-18; 35:1-3; and Numbers 15:32-36, anyone who profaned the Sabbath was put to death and any person who does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from his people.

Now who is going to enforce that? The Jewish synagogue? The Seventh day Adventist church or perhaps the Government? Since we do not live under a theocratic state as ancient Israel did under the old covenant of law, no sabbatarian today can live consistently under these Mosaic regulations.

His listeners didn't think he had the legitimacy to teach such things, and cast him out of the synagogue.

Were the Galatians Jews prior to belief in Yeshua or were they pagans...??? They were PAGANS who worshiped "elemental things" as Paul said...So your interpretation is wrong. Paul IS saying that now that you know God, don't go back to pagan practices. You and I have gone through this before and you were wrong than as you are now. WHY do you keep repeating this?!?!?

The truth is clear and I'm not interested in playing the "I'm right and you're wrong" game with you again.

27Then Jesus said to them, The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. 28So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”
" And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
28 therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath." ( Mark 2:27-28 ).

Jesus broke the old testament sabbath requirement.
Respectfully,
I see that He further defined it as being made as a benefit for us... a day of rest instituted by the Lord for our usage, and not a religious requirement to follow.

He also never broke the Law's of Moses that He gave to him;
Rather, He fulfilled all of them:

" Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." ( Matthew 5:17 ).
Yes we should not forsake the gathering together but we can do it anytime.
Amen.
