So far in the book of James chapter 1 we have covered that its not good to be double-minded, but single minded in our walk of faith in Gods promises. We also learned from Matthew 5 and looking at what Jesus Christ talked about to the disciples of what being blessed is like from Verses 1-12. We learned that life is going to pass away eventually here on earth. We learned that God not tempt, nor is tempted by evil. We learned that Father - is light, and all perfect and good things come from above. We learned that the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God and we left off ending in verse 20.

19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;

Anger comes from our flesh (heart/mind - soul) The spirit is quench if you are a believer. There will be destruction of relationships and corrupts our own heart. James is encouraging the twelve tribes scattered abroad to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger.

20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

Anger of man causes destruction. It is not of God; Jesus Christ is our righteousness and we have the spirit of Christ in us as believers, we quench the spirit reacting in situations that are of our own ways and not the ways of God walking and living by the holy spirit/spirit of Christ.

21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

The implanting (seed) of the word received (into our heart) saves your soul.
In Matthew 16: Jesus speaks this: 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

What will be a profit for you as a human being to gain the whole world and forfeit your mind/will/ and emotion towards the world?

What will a man give in exchange for His soul? What would you give to give away your own mind/will/ and emotion?

An early use appears in Nicholas Culpeper’s mid-17th century translation of Simeon Partliz’s A New Method of Physick, in which it is stated that “Psychologie is the knowledg of the Soul.” Today, psychology is concerned with the science or study of the mind and behavior.

2588 Kardia - Heart - Is part of our flesh nature ; the heart - mind - character - inner self - will - intent.

21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness (Moral Filth from the heart) and all that remains of wickedness (All evil desires that might be with-in - Mark 7:20-23)

Putting aside our own desires - in the humility or gentleness of receiving the word implanted which is able to save your soul. - Salvation - turning our hearts towards God.

Jesus Christ says in Matthew 22:37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

You can see that Jesus Christ the Lord explains that if you are a follower you shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Doing so it is possible for the implanted word to save our soul. What would rather have a heart for the world or a heart for God? You have to make that decision for yourself.

22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

In your heart prove to be doers of the word; do not just receive the word and turn away from the implanted word; live by what is truth and do not fool yourselves.

23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;

A mirror reflects ourselves - almost like looking at our own soul but in a body: In which all have used our bodies to do many filthy things or evil things towards others, the mirror reflects the imperfections (deep thought reflection of the self). Of a remembering of life completely (all decisions made). No one on this planet has ever done good. All have fallen short of the glory of God and it is why all need a saviour and why God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay for the sins of all mankind that we can have a relationship with our Father in heaven, by and through faith in the Lord.

24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

Leaving and walking away from the reality of how us humans are. No longer caring.

25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Ps 19:7 The law of Yahweh is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Ps 119:142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
And Your law is truth.

Romans 7:
12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
13 Therefore did that which is good become a cause of death for me? May it never be! Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.
14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.

Looking at the perfect law is the Law of Commandments given by Yahweh - All have broken the commandments - So it is holy and good. Paul says that the law is spiritual. That means to me because of the spirit of Christ in us an if we walk by faith in the spirit ; Christ in us performs the works of doing the law (not our selves) - and believers have freedom in the law of liberty - the liberty that Christ Jesus brings to us. Which means we remember our failings and understand that when we do mess up it is our flesh that caused us to have sinned or missed the mark of Loving God, and loving our neighbor as ourselves.

Blessed are those who seek to Love God with all their heart, all of their mind, and all of their soul. Not forgetting what God has done by sending His Son Jesus Christ to pay for all of the sins of mankind and not just our own in which their is comfort from God and peace being justified by faith in Christ Jesus which creates peace with God. (Romans 5:1-3) Even though we go through different trials of whatever the world may bring up to us in this life.


26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

If any persons thinks of himself to be someone whom worships God; yes does not bridle his tongue deceives his own heart - the mans worships is worthless.

1 Peter 3:10 “The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.

27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Here we have a clear cut description of what Pure and undefiled religion looks like in the sight of Yahweh our Father, and God. Which is this: To visit orphans and widows in their distress, and keep oneself unstained by the world.

To love others, and first and foremost love God

1 john 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

We live in this world but this is not our only destination ; their is a heavenly destination and all people have a choice in this life to seek after God or not.

Galatians 6:8 For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life.

A God given choice.

While I believe the Lord does impute His righteousness to us, this is only if we meet certain conditions found within His Holy Word. Romans 3:25 is an easy one. Folks can believe in Christ's blood for salvation. That's easy to do. The hard one is 1 John 1:7. If walk in the light the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Walking in the light is loving your brother according to the indirect wording found in 1 John 2:9-11. For if we love our neighbor (or brother), we will not steal, covet, or kill, etc. (See: Romans 13:8-10). For he that loves not his brother or does not righteousness is not of God (1 John 3:10). For he that does righteousness is righteous (1 John 3:7). Every who does righteousness is born of God (1 John 2:29).

The book of James is key in refuting most of the popular view of Christianity today that says we can sin and still be saved. For faith without works is dead (James 2:17). Can a person be saved with a dead faith? Surely not. This is why we are justified by works and not by faith alone (James 2:24). Yet, popular Christianity speaks against James 2:24 and says they are justified or saved by faith alone. I choose to follow God's Word and not men and what they say. Following the crowd in most cases usually leads to problems anyways.

Many Christians today are trying to justify some kind of sin with the thinking they are saved while doing that sin. Sin clouds a person's judgment and thinking that God cannot agree with. Christians also fail to understand that Paul was fighting against a heresy of what I call “Circumcision Salvationism.” This was the belief that said that you had to be first circumcised in order to be saved (See: Acts of the Apostles 15:1, Acts of the Apostles 15:5, Acts of the Apostles 15:24, and Galatians 5:2). So if a person believed they had to be circumcised to be initially saved , they would be making the Old Law (the 613 Laws of Moses) and or a work the basis of their salvation instead of having faith in Jesus Christ. This is why Paul spoke in the way he did in Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, and Romans 4:3-5. Paul was fighting against “Works ALONE Salvationism” (That did not include God's grace). Paul was not talking about how works must follow after we are saved by God's grace in God's plan of salvation. For Jesus said cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness (See: Matthew 25:30). But most today want to twist Paul's words to justify sin. But salvation does not work like that.

To me it is important to walk by the spirit of Christ with-in you as a believer, to love God with all your mind, all your heart, and all your soul, Love others as yourself. Christ Jesus is our righteousness, it is not our righteousness (we do nothing good), by which we are saved but if a person is a born again believer through faith - and they continue to seek for God; they will live a life worthy of their calling. Which is to continue from being a babe in Christ into a mature Christians.


Thank you for all the extra scripture. It is by faith alone we are saved by grace; and if your heart is renewed you will walk by the spirit; loving God and loving others as yourself. (The works of God are all done by the Spirit of Christ through all believers - and the work of God is to believe on the One whom God sent).

I agree that when we do righteous acts and deeds for real in God's eyes, they are the work of the Trinity working through us under our free will cooperation with God in our conviction to take action on His Word. Jesus said we can do nothing without Him (John 15:5).

However, there are believers out there who will say exactly what you are saying, and yet.... they will turn around and say they can also sin and still be saved on some level and that we are saved solely on the basis of believing in the finished work of Christ or the cross. This is not what the Bible teaches. 1 John 1:7 would refute that line of thinking for starters. Yes, we are initially and foundationally saved by God's grace, but His grace is not a license for immorality (Jude 1:4). God's grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and that we should live godly and righteously in this present world (Titus 2:11-12).

It really comes down to how we view sin and salvation.
Do we believe we have to confess and forsake sin in order to have mercy?
This is what Proverbs 28:13 basically says.
Most Christians believe either you have to just believe in the finished work of Christ (or the cross) or all you have to do is confess of your sins (and you don't exactly have to overcome grievous or serious sin at any point in your life that the Bible condemns).

I believe sometimes we do still mess up even mature christians if someone might get angry at another person or whatever it might be; because I can not say I live my life perfectly, but do try to live my life as a mature Christian in the spirit of Christ with-in me.

And hopefully you see that am being honest in speaking with you.

A believer who desires to continue to seek God will change from the fleshly ways; into the spiritual ways but considering we still live in this flesh honestly we can say we do mess up from time to time, becoming poor in spirit again but that is just our need to go back to God and to call out to Him and ask him to help us in our struggles in this life.

It is tough, but gotta live honestly.

I am not in disagreement that many believers from all points in time have not messed up in their walk with God. I believe Christians can struggle with sin and they can fall and get back up again several times. But I don't believe God wants us to accept that our condition of our flesh is hopeless in this life (i.e. They think they will always commit certain grievous sins like lying, lusting, hating, etc.). For such thinking would be an acceptance of sin and evil. I believe Jesus was manifested to destroy the works of the devil within our life.

“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8).

This is a salvation issue because the Bible repeatedly warns against continuing in doing certain sins with the destruction of our souls in the afterlife. See Galatians 5:19-21, 1 John 3:15, Romans 8:13, Revelation 21:8, etc.

Galatians 5:24 says that they that are Christ's have crucified the affections and lusts. For the context of the purpose of this thread, I will refer to Galatians 5:24 in reference to grievous sins mentioned in the Bible that can destroy our souls. In other words, I am not talking about overcoming Non-Mortal sin (i.e. Sinless Perfection).

In other words, after we are saved by God's grace, we have to overcome Mortal Sin in this life at some point as a part of God's plan of salvation. If not, then it will simply show we love our sin more than the Lord. We have to pick up our cross, deny ourselves, and follow Jesus. This of course is not easy to do, but with God's help and our continual faithfulness to His Word, what we think is impossible, with God all things are possible.

But it begins with believing the whole counsel of God's Word.
Unfortunately, most are not doing that these days (See: 2 Timothy 3:1-9).

You are right about the pretty much either an early death here in this life for the believer and loss of reward that has faith yet continues to struggle.

I would equate it to a single verse:

For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Galatians 6:8

A person would receive a lost of reward if they reap from the flesh but if a person reaps to the spirit; they are making deposits to their spiritual treasury above.

You can even equate sin as just being the flesh naturally because of (our heart of stone and what it is capable of Mark 7:20-23).

Our natural self is spiritually dead until we accept the truth of whom God is; and Yahweh our Father gives us a new spirit, and a new heart. Ezekiel 36:26 “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. By faith and through Yahweh's Son our Lord Yeshua Christ.

Which is a harden heart made soft ; to the ability to have love by and through being baptized by God's Son our Lord Jesus Christ in the holy spirit and fire.

Continuing in not just eating bread alone but every word God speaks ; a person will be transformed in renewing their mind and not conform to the world.

The world ways for us not reborn is naturally as Mark 7:20-23 speaks about.

A new way in the world comes by and through the spirit where Yahweh writes his laws on the mind and heart. (Hebrews 10:16)

I don't agree with the popular view in Christianity that says that Christians committing grievous sins like lying, lusting, and hating in this life is only a loss of spiritual rewards for them (And yet they are still saved).

This false view comes from misinterpreting 1 Corinthians 3.

Paul says before the parable in 1 Corinthians 3, "you are God's building."
So we are the materials that make up the building.

The work is not referring to just any kind of general actions of a believer like good fruit (any kind of good fruit) and evil fruit (sin). The work is referring to those believers we bring to the faith and their eternal status with God (i.e. what kind of building materials are they made up of). The Parable is talking about Paul's work (Which is the Corinthians in this instance).

I believe Paul and the other apostles are a part of the foundation with Christ being the chief cornerstone or the ultimate baseline foundation (Ephesians 2:20), and that Paul's work in the gospel are the result of the Corinthians being initially saved by the gospel. However, Paul is now concerned that his labor in the gospel (concerning them) is now in vain because the Corinthians are now working the sins of strife and envying (Note: Paul condemns the sins of strife and envying when writing to the Galatians (Galatians 5:19-21). Paul says that they which do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God). In Galatians 4:11, Paul was concerned for the Galatians in that they were going back to the Old Law so as to be justified or saved. He was concerned that his labor for the gospel was in vain for the Galatians.

So the parable speaks of how his labor for the gospel (concerning the Corinthians) was now possibly in vain for them, too.

#1. The chief cornerstone foundation = Jesus Christ.
#2. Built as a part of the foundation on top of Christ = The apostles (including Paul, etc.) (Ephesians 2:20).
#3. The actual building materials of the tower or building = God's people (In this instance it would be the Corinthians).
#4. The Corinthians would be like: Wood, hay, and stubble in this particular point in time within their life while they abided in their sins of strife, and envying (Which are sins that will cause a person to not inherit the Kingdom of God).
Wood, hay, and stubble are not materials that could survive a fire.
#5. Paul (the soul winner, and builder of the gospel and builder upon the foundation of Jesus Christ) would be saved through the fire (despite his work - i.e. the Corinthians being his work) would be burned up because of their sins. For Paul then says that if any man defiles the temple, God will destroy them (Meaning: God will destroy the Corinthians if they do not repent of their sins). We are the temple of God. Our bodies are the temples of God. If we as believers defile our temples by sin, God will destroy us (i.e. condemn us).​

This is what I believe the parable is saying. The works of Paul that will be burned are the Corinthians if they do not repent of their sins of strife and envy (1 Corinthians 3:3). The Corinthians at this point in time are not saved and they will be burned up in the fire and destroyed by God if they don't seek forgiveness with the Lord and turn from their sins of strife and envy. Paul, the apostles, or the gospel preacher is the one who will be saved through fire if his work (the Corinthians) is burned up (on the account of their justifying sin). The parable is not talking about how a believer can sin and still be saved as long as they have a belief on Jesus. It's actually teaching the exact opposite of that. One cannot build sin as a work upon the foundation of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not advocate sin, and neither did He teach that a person can continue to sin and still be saved.

Yes, we are initially and foundationally saved by God's grace, but believers cannot justify sin, and they have to be fruitful for their Lord and live holy as a part of the Sanctification Process.
For Hebrews 12:14-15 says,

“14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness,
without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;”

You can disagree with my view if that is what you are doing because this is how I believe @Bible Highlighter. You are free to disagree if you desire it doesn't bother me, friend.

Say Matthew lives in the desert he is good to his wife, good to his children, but he does have faith but he still messes up a lot and he doesnt read the word of God very much and he reacts in his flesh more than the spirit.

Say John lives next door in the desert he has faith, and he loves God, and his love his neighbor, and He desires from the heart to live by the spirit and to have love; forgiveness, and mercy by the spirit and feeds his spirit by reading the Word of God but he realizes that nothing that he does is good and the only good is that which comes from God.

A plane crashes into both of these house in the desert and both men die.

Judgement comes and God rewards them both accordingly how they freely desired to live their own life.

Both had faith; they will be rewarded both justly for their own free will choices.

One reaped more to the flesh over the spirit (that is a loss of spiritual reward) - there is no reward for the fleshly ways.

One reaped more to the spirit over the flesh (that is a building more of the spiritual deposits in heaven).​

It is all fair in the sight of God for He allows us to have the bible to either learn from or just leave on the table and just believe ; but try to live a good life but (none of us are really good so)

Hope this makes sense in the biblical sense of what the bible has to say about having faith and what it is like to know the true and living God, and the one whom God sent the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, not all sin is the same or leads to condemnation in the after life. If you were to read and believe Matthew 5:22, you would learn that Jesus describes two non-grievous sins (non-mortal sins), and then he talks about a grevious sin (mortal sin).

“But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be answerable to the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be answerable to the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.” (Matthew 5:22) (NASB).​

The words in blue above are in reference to non-mortal sins because they are the kinds of sins that would incur punishment by earthly courts, but the words in red is in reference to a mortal sin (Which is in reference to being punished in the afterlife, i.e. condemnation).

Second, Mark 7:20-23 is referring to unbelievers or those who are double minded. Mark 7:20-23 is not referring to those who have not crucified the affections and lusts according to Galatians 5:24.

Paul says let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God (See: 2 Corinthians 7:1). So the words of Jesus in Mark 7:20-23 is clearly not in reference to the believer following Paul's instruction in 2 Corinthians 7:1.

Mark 7:20-23 is talking about how us human beings are.

Please stop trying to abstract the text into something else.

20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

I have had all of this in my own heart man. Come on.

Either you believe what Jesus Christ is saying about the human heart or you do not. Your choice.

Say Matthew lives in the desert he is good to his wife, good to his children, but he does have faith but he still messes up a lot and he doesnt read the word of God very much and he reacts in his flesh more than the spirit.

Is this believer saved? It depends on if this believer repented later in life. If this believer did not repent of their lack of love according to God's Word, they are not going to make it. For Jesus says you will know them by their fruit.
Say John lives next door in the desert he has faith, and he loves God, and his love his neighbor, and He desires from the heart to live by the spirit and to have love; forgiveness, and mercy by the spirit and feeds his spirit by reading the Word of God but he realizes that nothing that he does is good and the only good is that which comes from God.

If a believer truly has faith, and he loves God, and his neighbor, then he will not justify the idea that he will be a slave to their grievous sin the rest of their life (Which runs contrary to God's Word) (See: Galatians 5:24, 1 Peter 4:1-2, and 2 Corinthians 7:1). So I believe that if a believer has this line of thinking that they must sin again in this life and nothing they can ever do is good, they are not going to make it into God's kingdom. Why? Because God cannot agree with our thinking on justifying sin because He is holy, just, and good.

It is all fair in the sight of God for He allows us to have the bible to either learn from or just leave on the table and just believe ; but try to live a good life but (none of us are really good so)

Hope this makes sense in the biblical sense of what the bible has to say about having faith and what it is like to know the true and living God, and the one whom God sent the Lord Jesus Christ.

Popular Christianity has done a number on Christians today. They have repeatedly told a lie long enough whereby people believe it as fact. There is no verse or passage in Scripture that teaches we just lose rewards if we commit grievous sin in this life. Committing serious sins that the Bible condemns leads to spiritual death and hellfire for the believer unless they repent (i.e. they confess and forsake their sin).

It is up to them. Free choice real and the bible is there to read. Some people desire to seek after God some people do not, yet they believe. Who am I to judge, only God is the judge. I am not here to condemn or judge people only to share the word of God with others.

Mark 7:20-23 is talking about how us human beings are.

Please stop trying to abstract the text into something else.

20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

I have had all of this in my own heart man. Come on.

Either you believe what Jesus Christ is saying about the human heart or you do not. Your choice.

You cannot focus a laser beam on one part of Scripture as your sole truth from your own bias. You have to look at the whole counsel of God's Word. Otherwise, why would Jesus condemn the Pharisees as being hypocrites if they were not capable of not being hypocrites? For Jesus condemned the Pharisees because they ignored the weightier matters of the Law like faith, love, justice, and mercy (See: Matthew 23:23, and Luke 11:42). Now, why would Jesus condemn them for ignoring the weightier matters of the Law if they were not capable of keeping them?

Paul says, “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” (1 Corinthians 3:17).

This is talking about God destroying them spiritually.

For Paul also says in 1 Corinthians 6,

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you:...” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

To not inherit the kingdom of God is to not enter God's Kingdom (i.e. to not be saved).

Compare the words “inherit the kingdom” in Matthew 25:34-35 with the opposite contrast of the words mentioned in Matthew 25:41-42.

When I refer to how Christians folks believe the wrong way today, I am referring to popular Christianity and not Bible believing Christianity.

Yes, everyone does have a free wil choice to seek God in this life and to teach others. We are told by the Lord Jesus that we can judge righteously. Granted, we should not judge a person's salvation in the sense that they will forever be saved or unsaved because we are not God to know what they will do in the end of their life. All we can do is preach the Word of God and expose the errors or false beliefs that are out there so as to help people to know of the truth and to abide in the truth (i.e. to abide in Christ and His Word).

Unfortunately, we have to face the reality that we are living in the last days as per 2 Timothy 3:1-9. Many today are lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. Many have a form of godliness but they deny the power thereof. What power are they denying in their lives?

The power of God to overcome grievous sin.
