I would like to share/remind you of a most wondrous prophecy of the Bible proving God’s astounding and most excellent faithfulness and mercy and love and forgiveness. The following is only one such account or prophecy and though there are many this one has always been dear to my heart.

I am speaking of the account of Abraham’s testing.

Abraham as a test was asked by God to sacrifice his only son Isaac whom he loved dearly. Abraham and Isaac were to go to the region of Moriah a 3 day journey (notice the 3 days) to carry out God’s command. Upon arrival, Abraham dismissed his servants and tells them they will return. Isaac then asks where the lamb for the sacrifice is and Abraham says God Himself will provide the lamb. Abraham however readies Isaac for sacrifice and is about to slay him when the voice of the Angel of the LORD (whom is Jesus in the OT) cries out for him to not lay a hand on Isaac. God says, since you have done this and not withheld even your only son whom you love from me I know that you fear (read: respect and honor) God. (Notice the Angel of the LORD equated to God in the text; also notice that it is then Jesus who puts a stop to Abraham’s slaying of Isaac.) Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in the thicket and it was substituted for the sacrifice of Isaac.

Text in verse14 states that Abraham then called that place The LORD Will Provide and from then on the saying was, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided” and that place, later becomes Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified for our sins!

You can find this full account in Genesis 22:1-19

In connection to this account you may also wonder about Abraham’s feelings being perhaps callous in attempting the sacrifice of his only son so see Hebrews 11:17-19:

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered Isaac. This man, who received the promises, was ready to offer his only son, 18 about whom it was said, “Through Isaac your offspring will be traced.” 19 He reasoned that God also had the ability to raise him from the dead, and in a figurative sense, Abraham did receive him back from the dead.

So faithful and long suffering is our God that His Christ would be sacrificed so very many centuries later.

If God is so long suffering and patient with us we must not give way to any doubts concerning the Lord’s return on the Day of Judgement.

IMO there is much to see in the covenants made with Abraham. But mainly I think about this..
The first covenant made with Abraham, speaks concerning the fourth generation of his seed. Abraham would be dead when this covenant came into force.
Land promise 4th generation
Genesis 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
Abraham will lie with his fathers
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
The seed of the fourth generation are heirs
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
The kingdom promised in the second covenant
Gen 17:6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after
Gen 17:15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. {Sarah: that is Princess }
16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. {she … : Heb. she shall become nations }

Abraham knew the co-heirs (1st to the 3rd generation) of this covenant would already be dead when it came into force. Joseph also knew they would be dead.
Ge 50:25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
Abraham and the fathers knew the second covenant concerning kings was to become after death

like this one?

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isa

That is a very powerful Messianic prophecy which also proves the Trinity if you carefully examine it. Thanks for posting!

Have some more thoughts on Abraham's testing account and the 3 days it took him to reach the site of the sacrificing.
Wondering if one can see symbolism there in the 3 days travel with that of the three days Jesus was in the tomb...equating it...figurative or symbolically that is, of course. One wonders especially as all was accomplished once Jesus rose to life (again, after 3 days) likewise all was accomplished for Abraham and Isaac when the Angel of the Lord (Jesus) interceded and prevented Abraham from slaying Isaac...after three days. Thinking of the 3 days...the number 3 is used often in Scripture to indicate God's purpose...and putting this knowledge along side the Hebrew passages 11:17-19 where it states figuratively Abraham received Isaac back from the dead.

And the command for Abraham to sacrifice his only son was likewise figurative, symbolic, a pattern, shadow, type of the coming sacrifice by God of his only Son.

Yes, indeed, forgot to add that to my original post so thanks so much. :)
