Thanks Paidiske (and @Bradskii )

The Old Man turned 100 in January so it was only a matter of time. Once he got his letter from the Queen I suspect his interest in carrying on waned a little. The worst bit for me was the year of 3.00am calls which turned out to be false alarms.

He died in a nursing home in Regional Vic too far away for me to get there in time. Getting there was a three day drive complicated by Covid borders. Between dementia and morphine I wasn't missed.

OB

My parents died when I was quite young. I feel guilty sometimes feeling a sense of relief that I don't have to go through all the problems I guess you did. And that my wife did recently. But 100 eh? Damn fine innings.

I remember Biden's comment at a eulogy some time back when he said that there will always come a time when the memory of those lost will bring a smile rather than a tear. But it does take time.

Still, that's tough on you. I hope you've got folks around you who are looking after you.

I've developed an exceptionally good relationship with my younger brother who lives in the US. We talk via video at least weekly. My older son calls regularly to "check if I'm still alive"

I'm also busy as the Executor of Everything, getting into fights with financial institutions in trying to round up the family fortune. It's a bit like playing Monopoly with real money. I just sold two houses, Advanced to Go and collected (a bit more than) $200.

All is well.

It's all been complicated with the distance problem both before and now, after, Eddie's death. I'm Executor for two estates and was the Old Boy's Guardian before his death. I've spent two years doing everything by phone and Internet. ' Everything' stretches from selling houses to buying the Old Man's underwear.

The one thing it has taught me is to sort out my affairs properly to make things easier for my kids.

Maybe I'll do this next week:rolleyes:

It can be a pain. My wife is executor of her mum's will. And it's being contested by one of the estranged sisters. Even if it's all kosher with t's crossed and i's dotted and written 'in sound mind' then nothing goes smoothly.

I'm not sure if you've ever been in a situation where you get to determine when someone dies.

I have -three times - including both parents and a sister. The most recent was 4 weeks ago.

In all three cases the decision was related to whether we should or should not resuscitate in a life threatening event. At that time the option of assisted dying was not in force.

I can tell you that in all three cases, if assisted dying was available, I would have agreed to it. In all three cases I agreed to and encouraged non-interference, allowing the person to die with dignity and without pain.

I don't believe that these decisions were related to my not being a Christian. In that situation I suspect that religious (or non-religious) beliefs become secondary considerations when faced with the possibility of easing a lingering and painful death.

OB

I grieve with thee. My condolences.

My dad died when I was 10, my Nana when I was 17 and my mum at 29. My wife's family is long-lived so she has only lost her dad recently. Her mum is still ticking along.

You all are making me cry. Seriously
Why are you all after my beliefs on this topic? I am not the op.. Does that mean I am the only one that has that opinion? Aren't we all Christians here? Shouldn't we all be in agreement?:groupray:

If it was outside God's realm I would agree with you. Stopping someone's long suffering would be freedom. I just don't how to justify it with God's laws in mind.
What would they meet, do you think, at the end?

Possibly, but offsetting that, older Coalition voters are (I think) more likely to be practising Christians. Since Christians are typically opposed to assisted dying I'm a little confused.

It depends on the Christian. Some churches value moral autonomy in those sorts of matters.
