Does the rising interest in the U.S. and Western Europe of promoting "tolerance" and punishing "hate speech" contribute towards silencing of the church and the silencing of the church's testimony against the evil of mankind.

I believe that is one of the goals being pursued by those that wish to define those two terms in such a way as to allow them to silence whatever they don't want to hear. I don't think we can give in to the idea that tolerance can be achieved by being intolerant of disagreement a particular ideology's assumptions or that such disagreement is hate speech.

It might. The militants who are demanding uniformity of thought (theirs) are the people most willing to charge "hate speech" against anyone who disagrees with them. Therefore, it is likely that the church will be targeted by them (and in fact we are already seeing it).

Hate speech is any form of expression through which speakers intend to vilify, humiliate, incite hatred and or violence against a group or a class of persons on the basis of being a minority.

Is the church advocating hate and violence?

Is the church doing advocating hate and violence?
So...only a member of a minority group--certain designated ones, to be correct--can be a victim of hate speech??

That skewed definition seems to go along with the twisted definition of racism by which only blacks are thought by some people to be victims of discrimination but not whites. (?) o_O

the definition of a minority can and does include religion.

so is the advocating of hate and violence something Christianity does?

The bible says a number of times that God doesn't show favoritism, so the implied prejudice behind hate speech doesn't really fit in with who Jesus is.

It’s all a matter of who is manipulating the language and terminology, your question can also be worded like this - Does the rising interest in the U.S. and Western Europe of promoting "intolerance" and punishing "free speech" contribute towards silencing of the church and the silencing of the church's testimony against the evil of mankind. I was looking sideways at the sentence that says promoting tolerance by punishing hate speech. What a manipulative contradiction

the problem is who gets to define what "hate" is. Jesus defined it as murder, not dislike.
John defined it as murder, in the gospel of Luke Jesus defined it as always putting someone in second priority. The biblical use does not account for the current choice of words today. However, the Luke definition of hate is closer to prejudice.

What do you consider "hate speech?"
There are various working definitions of "hate speech" floating about the Internet and they broadening over time. Declaring that a certain belief is wrong or that a certain activity is sinful, based on biblical principles, is progressively being included in the definition of what is "hate speech."

Telling someone they are in the wrong is not hateful. On the contrary, refusing to tell someone the truth is what is hateful. Proclaiming that speaking the truth, when presented respectfully, to be hate speech, is, in fact, a demonstration of hate.

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
