...they will not leave the Church alone

Bishops “warned that such action would portray the bishops as a partisan force during a time of bitter political divisions across the country.” That’s AP’s reporton the American Catholic bishops — only a quarter of them — who opposed the creation of a document on the nature of communion, and who can receive it and who shouldn’t.

It’s a predictable line. Some mean it. Others don’t want to restrict communion to their favorite Catholic politicians, no matter how pro-abortion they are. But I get it — the danger of looking partisan is a real consideration. The Church rarely does well when it identifies itself with any political party or cause, no matter how good.

But still, it’s a political consideration. It looks at how the Church in America looks to the non-Catholic world. It has nothing to do with the bishops’ proper sphere, which is faith and morals. It has nothing to do with the issues rightly encapsulated in the phrase “eucharistic coherence.”

He who dares not offend cannot be honest. Our society is dying for Truth, not false compassion. Where else will they hear it if not from the Church?
So true. It’s the Church’s job. Problem is, many within it do not want to do it anymore and have forsaken their vocations for careers.

Maybe we should refuse to give Communion for all sinners, sounds like a good idea to me.
Willful sinners or repentant ones? Key word. Repentant. You should know how this works...

We saw some Catholics align themselves with the previous president, they still got Communion.
Let’s talk Catholic teaching. Not President Trump. I know he’s the convenient whataboutism but he was not pushing and advocating abortion like Biden while proclaiming he is a devout Catholic and that is what the issue is here.

This is about Catholic teaching. The Church also is against the death penalty, is it time to begin withholding the sacrament of communion from supporters of that? Supporting a woman's right to choose is not the only topic of sin out there. If they are going to begin withholding the sacrament based on sin, it's glaringly hypocritical to ignore all the other sins out there. Why not divorce also? It's not whataboutism when it is a legitimate point.

Is any of the laity promoting the death penalty publicly? Have you read what the CCC says about the death penalty?? You can not compare it to an innocent life.

I agree. You never see RC people promoting the death penalty, even though it was permissible (under dire circumstances) by the Catholic Church.
