Think there's a major difference when we pursue it and turn to demonic resources or when God does it.

We're not to "Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God." Lev 19:31

When God does it, it has a purpose. ". Luke 9 Peter, James, and John knew Moses and Elijah who had not been on the earth during their lifetimes. "But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him." Luk 9:32

"Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many." Matt 27:50-53

Is that what Luk 9:32 and Matt 27:50-53 states?
Those two passages do not appear to lend support for the notion that the deceased can communicate with the living.

Hebrews 9:27-28
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

JS: my husband woke one night from a powerful dream. In it a friend who had cancer stood with arms stretched out saying, "I'm healed". He saw the time. Then the phone rang. He got up to find her husband crying on the phone saying she just died. He asked when she died and it was at the exact moment he had that dream. So he told him the dream and through this her husband was comforted.

So do not claim the dead can not communicate with the living, IF this is the will of G-d. True, it maybe ourselves, and it maybe demonic. Thus we are to test the Spirit, but not dismiss the spirit without first testing whether it was indeed the Spirit.

I think one needs to be careful throwing the "demonic" label around to begin with, because one could mistakenly attribute what is actually a move of God to demons, which, from what I recall from my Christian days, is considered a dangerous practice.

People already seem inclined to see demons everywhere anyway, so it may be safer (and healthier) to simply give God the glory in such cases. Chances are, any nefarious entities that may actually be involved will likely be annoyed that God's getting all the credit and stomp away in a sulfur-scented snit. :imp: :)

In regards to the OP, I fully agree that those who have died physically can still be in contact with us. I've experienced it myself, from the outright 'how the heck did that happen?' to the more subtle dreams and synchronicities. Our loved ones haven't left us; they're just in 'stealth mode' for the time being.

Admittedly, I'm not a religious or spiritual person. In my 6+ decades of life, I've lost both my parents, all my grandparents, an aunt, my best friend in high school, a high school girlfriend, several frat brothers from college, and a number of favorite teachers, and colleagues. Not to mention 2 deceased dogs and 2 dead pet birds. I've never experienced anything that might be a message, apparition, or visitation from anyone no longer alive. Nor have I ever had even a vague feeling that some departed individual was with me, or trying to contact me. Of course, as a metaphysical naturalist, I reject the idea of any kind of supernatural realm. So I don't expect to hear from anyone who's died.
