1. At that time chariots were to wars like air craft carriers were 50 years ago. Chariots were the ultimate fighting weapons at that time and for hundreds/thousands of years later. Infantry stood little chance fighting against chariots. Although Israel had 600,000 men remember that these were not men of war, had never fought, had never been trained to fight, didn’t have weapons, and wouldn’t have been organized. They also wouldn’t have had horses or chariots. Tactically, they were unfamiliar with the ground AND they were burdened with women and children to care for. In a real fight, it wouldn’t have been a fight at all, but a slaughter.

If you believe that the earth is tens of thousands, if not millions, of years old...you're either assuming that the history in Genesis has huge gaps (which you can't do since all the events therein is lol chronologically in order from Adam to Noah to Abraham to Joseph), or you are assuming an evolutionary process of our kind. If neither, then what?

Chariots in those days attacked in squadrons of three and charged in the formation of a triangle, one on the point and two on the flanks. The chariots also had knives and sharp instruments on their sides. The result was that three charging chariots could break through any line of infantry. Chariots in the ancient world were the tanks of today.

Many church denominations don't teach it. Even churches that are more traditional just focus on the lessons from the first few chapters of Genesis. They don't come out & say it's a parable, but they're not calling it fact either. There's only a couple denominations I know of that treat it literal.

You do know how historical archaeology works, right? Example: documents say "the Persians had scythes on their chariot wheels", Persian chariots dug up have scythes on the wheels. Documents say "Egyptian chariots were used as archery bases", Egyptian chariots are found to have large storage capacity for arrows.
