Regardless if some groups in our country commit acts of sedition in the name of 'patriotism' this should not require us to change our national flag.

Even though Russia adopted the colors red, white, and blue fof their flag in 1991. Though those same colors were on their flag of the early 1900s, we have had those colors since the 1700s.

No idea where you're getting your information -- the Russian Flag was first used in 1696.

The only change that should be made to the US flag is the addition of two more stars -- one for D.C., and the other for Puerto Rico.

In the case of D.C., there were lands ceded to a federal district by Virginia and Maryland. The Virginia part of D.C. sued to be returned to Virginia and that happened in 1847. Why not just return the Maryland part to Maryland and be done with having a federal district?

Because you need the federal seat of power to be at arms length to any particular State.

Soon enough ALL national flags will be neutral brown - or grey, whichever causes the least offence.

Is this a legitimate concern of yours?

Maryland doesn't want D.C. The proposal would keep a small federal district for government buildings but give the 700,000 residents of D.C. the same rights other Americans have. If we have too many states, combine Wyoming with S. Dakota. Wyoming has fewer residents than D.C. and S. Dakota has about the same number.

Are you talking about this: Signez la pétition ? I'm pretty sure that's a joke -- maybe a joke to make a point, but not a serious proposal.

If the problem is that the US and Russia both have red-white-blue flags, that's chiefly because red-white-blue is a good color combination on a flag, bright colors with nice contrast. Lots of other countries have red-white-blue flags, including Australia, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Czech Republic, France, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway, Thailand, the UK, and others I haven't listed. The colors are fine as they are.

No, no, no. I'm just being purposely ridiculous. Sometimes I use the forum as a canvas for expressionism.

I'll be the first to volunteer for an apartment on Mars if it does happen though.

You know that Mars is a RED planet... right?

No one who uses this flag (or a dozen other versions of it) supposes that it's a replacement for the national flag, nor are they advocating for Congress to replace the nation's flag with this one.

...speaking of which, who is advocating for Congress to replace the nation's flag? Or was the Op dreaming last night?
Some singer said something to provide this bit of outrage fodder.

It would probably be easier, and make a lot more sense, to return the district to Maryland from which it came in the first place, than make a state with two Senators out of part of a city having few of the characteristics of the existing states other than the population...and that would be less than almost all of the existing states.

Your idea of combining Wyoming and South Dakota, by the way, would give that state approximately twice the population of the city of Washington, DC.

Looks like a new version of the US flag to me.

It was one pop musician and the reasoning given was worse than the look of the proposed flag itself.

The notion should have died on the vine immediately except that other people started talking about it as if it were a good idea.
